Nice!!! Can't wait to see what else you come up with in this module.

Not free and you need Unity. But I have used this before with great results: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/2d/characters/character-creator-2d-111398

If anyone is interested in giving this game engine that can create 3D voxel rpg's, shoot 'em ups and adventures... the engine will be completely free on the epic games store from today until December 8th, no strings attached:

https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/rpg-in-a-box

There have been numerous updates over the past two months to this tool so I think you may want to check it out.

Just a heads up, this jam ended and we started a second one: https://itch.io/jam/rpg-in-a-box-game-jam-2-of-2022
Demo versions are allowed to be used and there may be a secret prize for this Jam.

Engine Development / Re: Switch?
Tue 22/02/2022 03:42:58
Sorry for reviving an old thread. I didn't think a new thread was warranted for this topic. I wanted to know if there were any thoughts about this or even if anyone has experience porting to the Switch if they would know if this method works.. I reached out on Unity Discord and also to the developers of this asset and I have yet to hear back on both fronts.

My thought was this... Now that AGS can build to Wasm(WebAssembly), I was wondering if we could use an asset like this https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/gui/3d-webview-for-windows-and-macos-web-browser-154144 to port our games to systems that we currently do not have a compilation method for, such as the Nintendo Switch. I tried their demo online found here: https://webgldemo.vuplex.com/. I then put in this link: https://ericoporto.github.io/agsjs/single_game and also this link https://ericoporto.github.io/agsjs/single_game_example (Note: Do not put "/" at the end). Both links loaded up well. In theory, one should be able to use this asset in Unity to load a local Wasm game into the browser and compile this app into a Switch Port. Theoretically it should work just fine. However, I am not sure if the Nintendo Switch has limitations that would not allow an external browser to run on it's system or if it can if it would allow Webgl or Wasm apps to run within said browser.

For those of you with experience porting to the Switch, would you happen to be able to shed some light on this?

Wow nice! This is shaping up to be a great Android Development tool.

I tried this out. Great Work! Works like a charm. Just needs some configuration settings like loading in landscape mode, etc.. and this will be another notch in AGS' belt.

Just as a side note, which I should have put in the rules... You can submit games either as source, executable or both and usage of the demo version of RPGIAB is allowed. Also, another note... This is not my software.. I am just running a game jam ;-)

Hi all,

Long time no post. But I am here almost every day, watching, lurking...

Anywho, I wasn't sure the best place to post this. Looking back on the search history it looks like this is where it can be posted. I wanted to just publicize a game jam I am hosting for a developer I know who develops a tool called "RPG in A Box". If you are interested and want to give it a shot, I am hosting the jam here: https://itch.io/jam/rpg-in-a-box-game-jam-2022 and there is a forum with resources and tutorials if you need it. There is no actual theme for this first jam as we just want folks to get used to the software first. So just have fun with it! You could begin working on your projects now. Submissions take place on Feb 7th to the 28th. Voting will take place March 1st to the 7th. PS: Games do not need to be RPG's per se. The games just need to use the game engine RPGIAB.

Neat. I am sure there are quite a few who need this feature.

I actually recently have become interested in Cryptocurrency. I tried mining Bitcoin with online services. I made literally $60,000 with no way to withdraw it when I send them the so-called payment to withdraw and it is just in limbo. I dont know if Coinbase is horrible or the service I used is horrible. Both received rave reviews.

Regardless.. I started purchasing Doge. I own about 100 quantities of Dogecoin and made about $20 off that with fluctuations of course.

Today I decided to try a new tactic.. I tried to get in early on a cryptocurrency hoping that I could play the waiting game and make some decent change. I bought 1,000,000 shares of Shiba Inu coin on crypto.com at a cost of 0.000010 each. So I paid just under $10 for 1,000,000 shares. Hey, if it amounts to nothing, I hardly lost anything. If it makes small gains.. I make another $20. Or maybe life will go my way for once and I can be a billionaire by the end of the year. Either way...

I had intended to go further with it. I have a body drawn out. But the body didn't do much. My original intention was to have him shoot at the screen and have the shot ricochet. But I am still proud of what I did draw since I am not a pixel artist by any means.

So I decided to buy Pixel Studio Pro and AseSprite. Best $30 I spent as far as 2D tools go. I did this in 15 minutes without so much as a tutorial and not really being a 2D pixel artist. It's not much, but I am impressed with myself.: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=58931.msg636634348#msg636634348

Goes to show how intuitive and powerful both software is. I drew the different character parts in Pixel Studio Pro (Eyes, hair, glasses, mouth parts, head). Added each part in it's own layer in Aseprite. Each layer had about 12 frames to animate. I was able to pick and choose which parts to show in the animation just like my very own character creator. It is super cool!

Aseprite can be bought on Steam or Itch. Pixel Studio Pro can be bought on Steam. I like Pixel Studio Pro because you can easily draw per pixel like you would in a voxel software. It has tons of tools and the software has a network sharing feature to download palletes and other works to use in your own works. It also is super cross platform working on Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. It also has a lot of drawing tools and supports layers and animations like Aseprite, but the animation aspect of PSP is not as easy or intuitive or even feature-ful.

Eitherway, both Aseprite and PSP made me a believer.

I bought Aseprite and Studio Pixel Pro yesterday. I created the head in Studio Pixel Pro and animated in Aseprite. This is my first ever original animation I made from scratch in 2D Pixel form.. So it is not impressive. But it is to me. Took me 15 minutes to do. Excuse the long image. I plan on adding a body and that is why the GIF exported that way.

EDIT 1 more:

This is all the same Aseprite project file. Thanks to it's layer and animation system, animating and changing characters is a cinch!

Nice. I will give this ago within the next couple of days. Thank you all!

OK, I didn't see in the rules that I couldn't dig up an old thread in the General Discussion, so I apologize if this is Taboo. But I have become addicted to KenShape. Kenney, the creator of AssetForge create this sprite layer 2d to 3d Editor. Essentially, you draw a pixel graphic up to 32X32 in size(for now that is the limit). Then you decide how many layers each pixel should be. The program then converts it to a 3D object ready for export. I have used it with Blender. I have made so many fun things using this program.

You can get it here: https://tools.kenney.nl/kenshape/#overview

You can see what people have created here: https://twitter.com/hashtag/kenshape?src=hashtag_click&f=live

It really is effortless and I have literally created Robots, sci-fi items and such in fabulous 3D in just under a minute. I am literally addicted to KenShape. I thought this would be a great arsenal for those looking to make adventure games.

That's pretty cool! Thanks.

I downloaded two random games that had downloadable links.. Chick Chaser and Out of time. Chick Chaser seemed fine. I then loaded up Out of time and it couldn't detect the game. I think, as far as I could tell, they tell the SCUMMVM Launcher the titles of each game manually in their code.

Doesn't play games made after it.
