Going back to the point of the makehuman. I was just stating that becouse thats how I use my sprites in a game. I take snapshots of the frames. But I didn't intend to use that for AGS. I only posted it cause someone said or asked how to make characters.

Although, 3ds, poser, and MD2/3 files wouldn't be so bad to use in a game. I use MD2's all the time.

Going to the point of wanting AGS to be 2d.... I am also sure that some people didn't want it to be converted to linux either, but that happened. Listen, I dont want to seem sarcastic here, but the truth of it all is: All the 2D features that AGS has, well it will always have them. And you know even if 3D was introduced, all those great games that AGS created, will they will still keep on coming. And you wont be confused if 3d is added becouse you will still know how to program all the 2d stuff.

I really dont see how adding 3D will make things worse. Something to think about is that a lot of people didn't want the plugin system or 32 bit graphics either. But now we have it and it doesn't make a difference for those people.

If you wonder about what priority Chris should should worry about when it comes to upgrading the engine and fixing bugs, I think Chris will fix the 2D stuff and 2D features first, and then the 3D stuff will be next on the priority list of bug fixes and new 3d features to add.

Maybe we should atleast even give it a beta try and if noone is happy, Chris can then remove the feature.

Look at the source. All the answers should then be revealed.

I'd be interested in 3D engines for adventure games but how would you make 3D characters? I don't think you can easily configure that.

Well, I use poser for one to create the characters. I also use Blender and the MakeHuman plugin and then I skin and export the model.

As far as rooms go, I use a program from www.revolution3d.net forums which is called New World.

I download freeware objects. I create walls, ceiling, floor, lighting and set the camera angle and then I place all those objects into the newworld editor and make a scene.

For terrain stuff, I use genesis terrain editing capabilities. And occasionally bryce.

All this takes a while to do, but it is satisfying. If AGS supported 3d Characters, I could import the characters rather than just take snapshots of each frame.

Then again, I wont be making a 3d game until after I release my Simpsons game and even that could be a while.

Wow, very nice. Thanks for the resources. They will be handy.

I think someone should edit the Spy Vs Spy game and make it multiplayer online using the TCP/IP plugin. I always wanted to see that happen.

Thanks again.

BTW: Any news on when you are gonna update your site with those other resources?

I dont think personally that adding 3D characters and objects to the game would be a bad thing. I dont think it would effect the game at all.

I think it would be the same becouse the background will always be 2d, therefore the game itself and its story and game play is not altered at all.

Besides, it might be a good addition for anyone who does program in 3D. Maybe they could add an object in a room that could animate a certain way and have less sprite limitations or something. Did that last part make sense?

Well, I downloaded it. I am a bit disappointed becouse of a few things:

1) The game is 23 megs to download
2) The game only has one playable room, a small intro, credits and a save load screen
3) Its only in German, and I dont understand German.

I feel a bit ripped off, becouse if AGS doesn't support that Graphics format, Agast and other engine do, and the Demo wouldn't have been so large.

Plus if they would have used AGS, despite everything else being smaller in size, you could have used OGG sounds to do voice. Plus who needs 1024x768 resolution? I wouldn't be surprised if AGS at some points support all Resolutions. Not too mention that Visionaire wont support multiple languages which means that they will have to upload to different versions, or only do a German Version. It seems to me that they are only using Visionaire so they dont have to script. I hope thats not the reason.

But going to the game itself... All in all it seems pretty decent. The Graphics are nice and it does have a nice SCUMM feel to it. If the Demo wasn't so big, I would say download it. It looks really nice.

Well, I have 600k to go of the download for the Zak Demo. I will let you all know how it is and if its worth it and if it is in English.

I have known about the Zak game for a while. Its Zak McKracken Between Time and Space. Did you guys know they have a 23meg demo up?

I am still in the process of downloading it.

Check it out at: http://www.zak2.org/zakmckracken/index_e.php?content=screenshots

Also, did anyone else notice that there is a DOTT 2 fan game being made? Check that out here: http://www.dott2.de.ms/
http://dott2.dyndns.tv/assets/images/Artworks/neu1.jpg

They both seem to be made with Visionaire. Why? I dont know. Not that I dont think Visionaire is a good engine, but I still think that these types of games would be better made with AGS. I think the demo files would be smaller if it was made in AGS.

The graphics seem somewhat a bit of their own in Dott 2.

Check em out if you havent.

Bravo Davis. Good stuff.

Maybe we could have an option enable and disable the grey thing.
#991
Maybe it could be edited to change when over a walkable area or region. No?

Personally, I wouldn't know how many users would need the shadow thing. Then again, I could be wrong.

But an option for you would be to draw the shadows with each frame yourself if you need a shadow.

Or Chris could implement a simple feature (In case in one room you want to disable shadows) where you can add the shadows to a different view. EG:

Character View (View 1)          Shadow View (view 2)
Loop1                   is equivelant          to     loop1 here
loop2                   "                "            to     loop2 here
Etc...

And the view 2 loops will follow the view 1 loops to become a shadow.

Although personally, you might be better off drawing the shadows in yourself for now.

Gilbot has a good point. I like it.

Hey Chris, have you tried www.planetsourcecode.com ? They may have some usefull source code for you to look at.

My suggestion would be that rather than using 3ds, you might want to use Milkshape or Blender files, or even MD2. Blender is opensource, so knowing the file format shouldn't be as difficult as 3ds. MD2 is widely used, and in fact, I model in MD2. Plus it has all frame animations set. All you would have to do is just choose which frame is for walking, talking, picking up etc...

I would find 3d characters and objects useful. I use blender (With MakeHuman) to make some other 3d comics and games(Escape from Godzilla, Transformers), and I animate them using MED (MD2 editor) for actions.

So in my opinion, 3D characters and objects is something I would use. Only thing is, I am not currently planning on making a 3d game. Atleast not until my Simpsons game is released.

What about adding a whole set of new Hotspots in AGS. EG, Hotspot one can allow you to draw upto 19 hotspots. HotSpot Editor 2 could also allow you to add 19 hotspots.

Just an idea for the editor for those who need more hotspots.

There I go with my Rambling....

Well, I found the Font program. Go here: http://hibernatus34.free.fr/scumm/

Also go here to see more info on it...

Speaking of Speech suggestions.

Is there anyway we could have a view for characters that is a talk and walk view.

In other words, the characters are talking while they are walking. Is there anyway we could add a view for that. Most Lucasarts games have characters doing that.

This is just a sug... Since we are on the topic of speech.

@SCUMMBUDDY: I lost the font editor program. And let me know if you want SCUMM2D, its not the same as SCUMM16 as SCUMM2d is for windows and it allows you to view game files from Zak256. It is the same author and the program is generally the same, its just enhanced.

Let me know.

@Junc: I sent you the files.

If you are looking for more content, I got some more SCUMM Programs that a lot of people dont know about, like A SCUMM Font editor.

I also have SCUMM2D which can view games like ZAK256 if you would like it emailed to you.

As far as plugins, there is the TCPIP, Fire, And flashlight plugin you could add if the authors gave you the permission...

This is for a surprise game in which I have been thinking up for about 1 year and 3 months now. The plot is complete. The story is about %100 complete. And the game puzzles are about %85. This is something in addition to my Simpsons Game.  Although my Simpsons game is on hold, I will still release Templates in my spare time.

I have designed all of the rooms already, and all I have designed all the characters.

This game will be a full fledged Commercial game in which I hope to be able to offer to large audience in different languages and possibly as many different OS's as AGS is supported in.

I will not reveal the game Title Or plot to anyone but my team. It will be revealed before release, but not anytime soon.

Please read what I need carefully.

Well I am in need of some help. First off, this is what I need:

Background Artist/Background Animator:   First off, the style I need here is Cartoonish. Very Detailed Cartoonish. I need something in the humourous way that Day of the Tentacle was made, but I want the graphics to look good as the graphics in CMI, or even Runaway.

Character Artist/animator: Same as above. I need it to blend in well.

Inventory Item/ GUI Artist: This can very.

You will all be paid for your work.  Payment is as follows:

$1.50 for each background
$0.50 for each object in the room
$0.25 for each inventory Item
$5.00 for the entire GUI
$0.15 for each frame of a character (This adds up. Think about it, if you make one character and he has 250 frames worth of animation, you would get paid the following: $37.50 per character! Yikes this would kill me)

Now after that, I am gonna need the following:

Voice Actors-----   For now this is gonna be in English. But I would like to have Voice acting in the following Languages: Italian, German, French, Spanish, Possiblu Japanese and Chinese if possible.

Language Translations-------  I am gonna need the game text translated in the following languages: Italian(Most likely I will be doing that, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese(I hope I spelled that right), and some other languages.

Voice actors will be paid the following: $3.00 for every 100 lines done correctly.
Translators: Will be paid $10.00 for the whole thing.

Musician for soundtrack and background music: In all this person will probably get paid $10 for helping. Must contribute in about 5 tracks atleast before being paid.

Programmer: To port AGS to MAC and Amiga. I really wish my game can be played on those systems. PLease dont comment. I know of all the already released threads about this. If anyone does it with CJ's permission, then I will (With CJ's Permission) pay that person $50.00. I still own an Amiga and would love to play the games on those systems. And the reason why I want a MAC version available is becouse I want to market this game to more than just Linux, Windows and Dos users.

And lastly, I am gonna need some Beta Testers to test the game. I will need 1 or 2 testers for each language and OS that the game will be ported to. For this, I will not be paying anyone. You would be getting a to play the game, therefore I feel that it would it only be appropriate that you pay me for this. The advantage of this is that you would be only paying a small percentage of the price. The price will be $15.00. Its good becouse I plan to sell the game at a price of $45.00.

Now the only problem for those who will help and get paid, you will have to pay a base price for the game, which I think will be $10 or something. I would not be able to afford the game for free for you at that point.

If you would prefer to help for free in all these things, you will get a free copy of the game. But keep in mind, I still need you to follow deadlines. If you were to take a free copy of the game, rather than me paying you, hehe, that would be cheaper for me.

If you will be payed, you will only be payed in PAYPAL.

Some features of the package:

*Nice CD and Manual and Cover
*Commentary as an option from me
*Different Translations
*Hopefully different OS's
*Interviews
*Sketches
*Making of the game
*And more

Also if anyone knows of good publishing companies, please let me know.

Please dont respond in this thread. If you do, I will not respond back. Not becouse I want to be rude, but becouse I want to talk privately. So please PM me, dont E-mail me yet. Just PM ME. Dont e-mail me becouse I dont know what is SPAM or NOT, so I could accidentaly delete your email.

Oh and CJ, you will get major Credit in the game and will also get a free copy of the game and a free t-Shirt that states the game was created with AGS.

I will reveal this about the game:

I am a big Zak McKracken fan. This game will be in its spirit. It will include many concepts from the this game and many other of my favorite and humourous games. Of course there will also be a whole load of Originality, and an interface and other interacting game features that some of you may have not seen before, I hope.

So please let me know. But if anyone wants to do this for free, it would be a big big big help on me financially. Also if you do work for free, not only do you get a free copy, but a percentage of each game sold. EG, if a game sells, you might get somewhere between $0.50 to $1.00 per copy sold.

Also CJ, I would like you to automatically gain $5.00 for each copy sold, just becouse I want to show appreciatiion for this Great engine.

So please let me know if your interested.

Also, I would like to include Cameo appearances of people in this community. Not all would make it, but if you want to, you can ask me, and if the artist must get paid, I must unfortunatly charge you what he is getting paid. But be assured that your character might not need that many frames :)
