Engine Development / Re: AGS engine iOS port

JJS, I know you said you wouldn't work on any more ports, and I am sure you have some more work to do with the IOS port, but I do have a request. Its for my brother and a few others actually. Its for a WebOS port. And I know how they feel because I used to have a Palm Pre and it was awesome. I let it go because I hate what HP is doing to it (Dropping it). But it will be licensable to other companies, so it will rise again, I am sure. It is actually my favorite mobile OS right next to Android Ice Cream Sandwhich. Anyway, I want to request a port to WebOS if its possible.

From what I hear, programming for WebOS is similar to Android (Haven't really tried it). A few sites to check out are www.precentral.net
https://developer.palm.com/content/resources/develop/cross_platform_development_part_2.html
http://www.webosnation.com/openmobile-working-hp-make-android-apps-webos-reality
http://forums.webosnation.com/webos-development/314546-our-experience-porting-android-enyojs-phonegap.html

Apparently, they have a very simple solution for porting Android Apps to IOS and WebOS (So I hear). Plus, WebOS has a windows emulator that one can use to test the apps out as well as a RAD IDE on the web(Browser based) that one can use to design GUI's. So, its a possibility to port. You think you would be able to check it out after you are done with the IOS port? My brother would be very grateful since he owns an HP Touchpad. :)

How would you feel about a package that would download and install AGS and your specific game seperately? Would that help at all? Then it would be just a matter of editing a file inside the APK manually for everyone. APK's are actually zip files(Just rename them to zip and open it with an unpacker), but the content inside is encrypted. However, you can insert a text file that would specify specifics of your game(EG: Name and download location). Then the installer can actually install AGS and the game together.

JJS: If you want, I can probably write the code for you to put it into your port so that anyone can do this without me having to write a whole new app for it. The steps for the user would be something like this:

1) Rename AGS.apk to AGS.zip.
2)Open ags.zip and edit config.txt
3)Either upload the game to a website or pack it into the zip file
4)In config.txt, enter the location to where to download the game or give the name of the directory you just created with the game files.
5) Save Config.txt
6)Make sure config.txt was updated in the compressed file.
7)Rename ags.zip to ags.apk or whatever you want to call it as long as the extension is always .apk.
8)Upload to the Market and you are all set.

Would everyone be ok with a system like this? Or would they prefer some other way?

Nixxon. You would have to build an APK File that would install both AGS and the game together. But thats not an easy task to do. I am trying to create something for the community so that you can all sell commercial games independantly in the Android Market. Of course, this tool will be available free of charge as well. Just give me some time to finish it up.

Wow. I do not own an iPhone, but I am still psyched that you got a port over to it though. AMAZING. OK honestly, what else are you going to try to port AGS to next JJS? You seem to be incredible at this. I would suggest a Dingoo A320. But thats just me. :)

Honestly... I think for a port thats handheld touch based, this is as good as it gets. Awesome job JJS.
#389
Was this just an editor modification, or were there changes to the engine as well? If the latter is the case, I would love to see this feature implemented into JJS' ports.
#390
It would. But I would like to point out that Chris Jones and JJS are the true wonders of having AGS on these platforms.
#391
DazJ: Yes, I am planning on trying to make a utility so that anyone who wants to create a commercial game and upload it to the Google play store.

R4L: Its still in Beta so that front page that loads is not complete. That is supposed to be a featured games page and I haven't really implemented too much into it. However, the true form is in the AGS tab which will install AGS if its not already there. Also, there is a games page with one game displayed which will download the necessary files. Its a space quest game. It will take a few minutes to download and install it. Then go to AGS itself and the game should appear there.
#392
Hehe. Should be a few months before it will be where I want it.
#393
Currently JJS has not added a way to compile games into its own Android APK file for distribution in the market. However, I am developing an AGS market app for Android where a user can install AGS via that app and then download games which will install it properly.

Go here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.agsstream.diperla&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hZ3NzdHJlYW0uZGlwZXJsYSJd

I am planning on adding support for commercial and non-commercial games. I am starting a kickstarter project for this. Eventually I will add a tool which will allow you to package your game and AGS Together and install it automatically on an android device so that you can submit the game directly to the google play store.

Hey Prog, its a little better. I was able to pay my rent this month. But as far as the car payments, I am still $940 short. But I am going to see if I can get an extension on my loan. Hopefully I can.

Thank you all for the help and messages you have sent. Its been very kind, considerate and generous. I am so glad to be a part of a large and wonderful community like all of you.

Tim: I thought about that, I just have nothing thats worth starting on kickstarted at the moment. I am working on a RON game, but I really do not want to ask for cash on kickstarter for that.
#396
Actually, I am really thankful for all your best wishes and I have received some help (Via PM) and thanks to some of you, I only need $970 to pay the rest of my bills. SO thank you guys so much. Sorry I haven't replied to the PM's in the last couple of days. I wanted to see if I could better my situation before responding and accepting any help. Unfortunately, the only reason why its gotten better was because of all your help and from selling a couple of more items on ebay.

Thank you guys all so much. And please, do not loan me anything if you yourself cannot afford it. I totally understand. The economy nowadays is in really bad shape and its wearing on all of us. Gas around my neighborhood here is at $4.06 and still going up. So its been costing me quite a bit to fill up my car. Thankfully I have a Ford Focus that has good gas mileage (33MPG) and a small tank to fill.

Thank you guys so much for all you are doing. :)

Hello fellow AGSers. I know most of you have known me since the beginning way back in the late 90's. I really feel embarrassed to do this, but I have come into desperate times recently and am in need of financial assistance. I recently had a baby girl, Ava, who was born on December 13th 2011. My wife and I have been out of work for the past 4 months and we are facing eviction from our apartment. On top of that, our vehicle is facing repossession.

I hate doing this and feel really embarrassed, but I am trying every single avenue I can find in order to better this situation.

I have finally found a job and will start in two weeks and my wife goes back to work next month(due to illness, she had been out). Unfortunately I need to pay these bills this week. I am short $2325 that I really need this week. I am trying to sell items on ebay, which I will post links to here tomorrow. But even with that, I will still be short. I have already sold so many things that I own such as my PS3, my Wii, my TV, an old pc and my wifes tablet to help pay for some of my other debt. I am almost ready to sell my own tablet as well. I have asked some other friends and my family for a loan as well and they provided what they could, but now I am short the rest.

To break it down, I need to get $955 for rent and $1370 (all from months of not being able to pay it) for our car payment. This is our only car and we live in CT where we absolutely need a car since there is no walking around here. Our loan company has been more than generous in not repoing our car from lack of non-payment. But now they reached a boiling point.

What I am asking is for a sort of loan-me-a-charity thing here. If anyone can loan me some money, I can gaurentee these things for those that do:

*I will repay what you gave me within 3 months. However, six months would be ideal if you could spare it.
*I will promise to continue work on the AGS Marketplace for Android.
*I will promise to release a game this year, which you will get to play before everyone else.

So basically, consider this as sort of an unofficial kickstarter for Joey DiPerla. Again, I hate to ask this, but with a baby now in our care, and with a whole streak of bad luck and a bad economy and illness, I am desperate and need to use all options.

If you are able to loan me some money towards my debt mentioned above, please DM me. I apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you can all understand my situation and can forgive me for asking such a horrible thing. :(

Well lets see... AGS is supported on all the major desktop platforms such as Windows, Mac and Linux. There are two ports that work well for Android and Sony PSP. I would not be surprised if it makes it to other ports in the near future.

However, I do agree that JS is a more cross-platform environment and is a nice choice to develop an app or game that you want as many users as possible to use.

This looks amazing and will probably definitely win some kind of award in the AGS Awards 2012! Keep us posted.

Hope it works out for you Mark. I have known you a long time on these boards and I have complete faith in your endeavor. Congrats!
