Day of the Tentacle's visuals are already perfect as they are, and they have a very specific style that is not up to the, uh, interpretation of the special edition team. Just imagine how stiff they could make all those wonderfully cartoony pieces of animation look! And they could give everyone weird angular faces.

I once woke up in my bed dressed in my pajamas.

Obviously a good story and good writing are probably the most paramount things I can think of. Nice graphics, music and voice acting to enhance the atmosphere and immersion are definitely a plus.

I think that puzzles should be organic to a games overall story design and every puzzle you solve should feel like a real step forward. I think puzzles should be clever and challenging enough to the player without feeling unfair. Day of The Tentacle is one of the best examples of puzzle design I can think of, the whole game fits together so perfectly and the puzzles are all fair and logical without being hair pullingly frustrating.

I am not a fan of dead ends, or deaths that don't allow you to restart from just before you died. I really only ever like the adventure game death when its used for humorous effect such as in Leisure Suit Larry 6.

I think that's another thing that I think is really important, a good sense of humour. Even in "serious" games, I think it's still important to give your game a sense of humanity with a good dose of humour.

I really dig that Guybrush!

That poor pirate in that enhanced screenshot with the disproportionally short legs looks like he's only leaning against the wall because his legs have permanently stiffened. I really feel sorry for the guy  :-[

This enthusiastic preview article from Adventure Gamers confirms the presence of a look at function and the ability to combine items. Something I definitely missed in Telltale's Sam & Max game so that's good news, as is the apparent little reuse of locations. Also confirms a direct control scheme... which will probably not sit well with a lot of people.

Also apparently Alexandra Boyd from Curse of Monkey Island is back in her role as Elaine, so, cool that i guess. I liked that voice better than the one in Escape...

I can not believe this is real, I am very excited. It makes me wonder where things would have gone if Sam & Max: Freelance Police hadn't been cancelled. Would our pants currently be a lot dryer at this junction? It's funny how things work out...

Also, the Guybrush design in the special edition: what the hell? Seriously... what... the hell?

The characters are looking very nice indeed. That in game background looks rather spiffy too. Good luck with the project.

That was a very interesting article. I remember playing Exile 3 on a Mac shareware CD as a kid among lots of other shareware titles released in the 90s and I've always been curious as to how well these things actually do.

I don't know, I feel like you've kind of chiseled a lot of the life out of the image and made it very rigidly geometric and boring.

Zworx

Billy was in a painful situation. The girl of his dreams was about to walk out on him forever, all because whenever he tries to kiss her the alien that lives inside his head called Zworx devours the skin on her face.
"No! Don't you go! Stay with me one more day!" he cried in desperation "If we get through one more night, if we get through-"
"This is not a party where people know your name!" she said in an angry retort "This is NOT a sitcom where everything's alright, this is NOT a prison, with terror through the night." Faceless and dejected, she left his apartment building, forever.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" screamed Billy for twelve years, until he decided something must be done about his situation. But it was too late, in those twelve years Zworx had grown stronger, not only that but by saying "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" for twelve years he inadvertently triggered Zworx's self destruct mechanism. Suddenly Zworx exploded taking Billy with him. To this day, some say Zworx still haunts the only mansion up on the hill.

Thank you for the advice. Here's the latest version of the walk cycle that I fiddled with today.

Okay, this is some stuff for a potential game that perhaps I might be making. So anyway I drew these today:

Then of course I went about animating this crazy protagonist.

See my latest post for the newest version.

Your help is appreciated.

I understand what you're saying there, it did look a bit poo whenever Guybrush was scaled down in COMI since the outlines would break up and such, but with AGS anti-aliasing system this old adventure game problem is more or less fully resolved so I see no reason not to try all sorts of crazy camera angles :P.

Thanks folks! We have the vocals to our theme song all worked out, but we really need a talented composer to compose some music to fit in with it. If anyone is intersted email/msn/pm/phone call/snail mail/postage/letter bombs/messenger pigeon/morse code/psychic contacting/message in a bottle/sky writing/a man in speedos singing our message to us/getting into our heads so we start spelling out your email in mashed potato/television broadcast to us! We'd really appreciate it!
