General Discussion / Looking for a midi...
Mon 03/05/2004 00:01:12
I'm trying to find a midi version of the theme song from The Boondock Saints, performed by Mychael and Jeff Danna called The Blood of Cu Chulainn...

I've searched throughout google, p2p networks and even asked the roger in #ags... but no luck. So what I'm asking is if anyone can find it for me, or know of a midi search engine... or even if you know a program that can turn an mp3 into a midi (i doubt it would work, if you can do it though :()...

Any help would be appreciated and if anyone finds it, they will get a special thanks credit in teh game thingy i'm doing. :D

I just watched the most horrific Flash cartoon I have seen for a fair while, and of course, it was made by Matt Stone and Trey Parker of Orgazmo and South Park fame.

If you want to see their flash cartoon, here are the links...

Now, I must go cower in a corner and cry...

I was doing a background last night, and I just started this little thing. Just a simple photoshop file (.psd) and also a GIMP file (.xcf) that newbies to background art may find useful. Its got a few little things, to help organise it. The download is a zip file, and I think it's 8k...

Click for larger screenshot...

Features... (not really! :P)
- 2 Horizon Points for horizonal vanishing fun!
- Designed to create 320x200 res backgrounds, but placed inside a 640x400 size image so that the vanishing points can be placed "off-screen" for even more horizonal vanishing fun!
- Layers are organised into little sectors for easy use... um, yeah!
- A little colour chart thingy, to place the colours you use in a easy to access place... fun!
- And other stuff I can't remember...

Update: Now includes a version for Photoshop 5.5, and also the GIMP version by LGM (hope you don't mind mate :))

With all the other threads, I thought, I might as well put one up. Okay, so instead of a regular movies thread like whats your favourite, or what do you hate, I thought about the movies that were so lame that we used to watch as kids, that they are just great.

My favourite is probably the BRAT Patrol. It's a Disney movie, when they still made good kids movies, not all lame ones like todays movies. Anyway, it had Sean Astin, one of the kids from The Explorers (another great 80's kid movie with River Pheonix and Ethan Hawke, with Robert Picardo doing some voices in it) and then the other kids were really forgetable because they were pretty much nothing after they did this movie.

Anyway, the group was odd, as Astin played a Surfer dude kinda guy who got around on his motorised skateboard (so cool), the kid from Explorers was just a lame whinger who bitched and moaned alot. The others were a red-headed geek and his equally annoying little brother and then a black chick...

The whole story revolved around these kids, who were misfits living on an Air Force base, who uncover a plot to steal priceless computers from the Air Force... all run by the dirty cop from Robocop 2 who they hack up with medical intruments. :P

Anyway, that movie was cool... what's yours?!! :D

This is kinda a work in progress, and is the first part of what I hope to be a series of little episodes, similar to that of Bluecup. I started this last year and only just got around to doing a bit more on it. I did the beach BG last night but I still have a few sound effects, and also a few sprites to add... but here is the work in progress of The Drunken Adventures of Ben and Jeff... (Ben is me, and oddly, i'm wearing the same outfit that is in it... :P,; and Jeff is based upon two people, my friend Matty and then Jeff, who posts here as Ravenfusion :))

Sadly, I can't get the music uploaded anywhere... and if one 1MB file takes 1GB of bandwidth in about an Hour, I'd hate to see how fast it goes with a 4.3MB file. :(

General Discussion / Firewall Programs
Mon 29/03/2004 00:10:36
Olleh!

Does anyone know of any good freeware firewall programs? I need to install a new one, because the one I have is kinda lame... I'm currently just using the firewall that comes with Trend Micro's PC-Cillin Internet Security 11, and while its okay, I still don't think it's completely doing the job.

QuoteFlamboyant fitness guru Richard Simmons has been cited by authorities in Arizona for allegedly "bitch slapping" a man in an airport for poking fun at his exercise videos. Simmons, 55, was ticketed for misdemeanor assault after allegedly striking the man across the face while in line at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Wednesday night. Sergeant Lauri Williams says, "He apparently said, 'Hey everybody, it's Richard Simmons, let's drop our bags and rock to the '50s,'" in reference to a series of his well-known videos. Williams adds, "Mr. Simmons took offense and said he had to 'bitch slap' him." The man told police that he wanted to press charges against Simmons, who was cited but allowed to board a plane to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Okay, I feel sorry for this poor guy, but Richard Simmons has really put it to him, so that he'd have no comeback or anything... lets analyse some things he could have done:

a) He strikes back, and is forever known as the guy who beat up a little girly man.
b) He sues him, as he is doing, yet he is forever known as the guy who got bitch-slapped by a little girly man.
c) He does nothing and is forever known as the gguy who got bitch-slapped by a little girly man.
d) He gets a female friend to beat Richard Simmons up, and is forever known as the guy who got bitch-slapped by a little girly man who needs a chick to stand up for him.
-or-
e) Stand there and take it like a man... a man, who got bitch-slapped by a little girly man.

Seriously, the poor bastard is now, forever lame...

Advanced Technical Forum / External Database?
Tue 16/03/2004 04:07:50
I was wondering if there is a way to have a database with some information in a .dat file or such. Which could have a few different attributes seperated by commas and each entry into it seperated by a ; like this...

NAME, HEIGHT, WEIGHT, AGE, HOMETOWN;
And each one of these lines within the .dat would be assigned a number, so the first would be 0, the second 1, and so on...

So that is in the .dat file and is the first entry of the database. Where you could then assign something like GetData(filename.dat, 1, 3); which would read the filename.dat and then take the WEIGHT of the second line in the file... and show the value of that attribute...

Or you could SetDatabase(filename.dat), and then use GetData(1, 3); which would do the same thing...

Does anyone get what I'm saying?

Is there anyway to do this, or am I just jerking it?

I'm trying some scripting stuff here at TAFE on the computers which are running XP, and AGS works fine, but when I try to test the game or even open the game from it's compiled folder, it doesn't seem to work properly.

Everything is seemingly running fine and it doesn't freeze or anything (i can tell because sound works when it starts and i can press Alt-X to execute the program and it says what line it closed on), but I just cannot see anything. Could anybody help me with this, as it's kinda annoying...

Sorry if this has been solved before or mentioned before, I did a search and couldn't find anything. :(

edit :: Just install the latest DirectX drivers, and it still doesn't work... :( Could the network be affecting it?

Just wanted to tell my fellow aussies that the movie is on this week on SBS. I think it's on Friday or Saturday, but make sure you check your TV Guides to make sure.

I've always wanted to see the movie, but never had the chance to before now. Anyway, apart from that, I've got nothing to tell you all... except that I am cool. :)

Critics' Lounge / Roger is Cool?!
Mon 08/03/2004 00:42:08
I was just sitting here in class at TAFE and got bored, so I did an edit of Roger... to something more laid back and cool looking... for some reason though, he kinda reminds me of the terminator. :P

When it comes to character art, this is pretty much the extent of my "talent". You should see my character animations... oh god...

"Close your eyes Marion!!! Don't look at it!" - That pretty much sums it up. :P

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Bluecup
Wed 25/02/2004 02:16:37

Update 12/5/2004
I've started work on a Bluecup Bible, so that when someone wants to work on a script, it'll have details about each character, their personalities and such, what kind of animations they have and also detail about each story that has been written and any major events which can be mentioned in future episodes to create a consistent timeline. Once both it and the first episode are completed, I will release it and a template of Bluecup so that people will be able to create their own episodes...

Though, with any episodes that are written by other people, I will be acting as a sort of Executive Producer and the episodes must go through me before you start work on them, so that I'll be able to update the Bible and also contact the people that do any of the character artwork to do any new animations as required by the script, and/or new characters.

Update 4/5/2004
Completed a placeholder intro sequence that is now easy to modify to add or remove people from the credits according to each episode. Cleaned up a heap of code which was just a hassle to do each time, so I've made them into functions... like opening and closing the front door now use openDoor(); and closeDoor(); respectively...

The background is now complete, apart from a few little things like beer bottles on the wall, but they can be added later using objects...

The Bluecup Bar as of 4/5/2004

================================

The main characters are CJ, m0ds, Remixor, terranRICH, Scummbuddy, Helm, Yufster, Alkaline, Rodekill, and LGM... and there may also be other members of the community that will be in the series in future episodes.

I have written 4 episodes of this quasi-television/ags series, and Bluke4x4 has written one episode as well. Anyone is allowed to write a script for a future episode, but the plot must stay consistent with the other episodes.

All scripting is being done by me, as well as backgrounds. If you would like to create an episode in the future using a script that I've made, I might release a template as well, to make it a matter of just scripting the sequences in the episode.

Also will be looking into having a voicepack for each episode. So if anybody wants to do voices for the characters, either the people themselves, or other members of the board, then just reply here.

If you are interested, you can download the scripts for each episode from http://www.tdrdesign.net/downloads/bluecupscripts.zip which has the first 4 in it, as RTF files which I am sure can be opened with any word processing program like Word.

General Discussion / Batman!
Sat 21/02/2004 00:08:11
Just checking out Dark Horizons, and saw a bit about casting of the new Batman movie and I must say that I really cant wait to see the movie.

Not only have they actually gotten a guy who could play a dark version of Batman in Christian Bales, they had Michael Caine as Alfred (who has signed on for 3 movies!), and now they have Morgan Freeman AND Liam Neeson. The cast is turning out to be extremely cool, as they can all act quite well.

They've also been in talks for a while with Viggo, um... Aragorn (cant remember his last name)  from LOTR.

Who else thinks this would end up being a good movie, simply from the cast it is shaping up well, and added that they want to have a much darker, and grimmer movie than the previous ones, which is what Batman should be.

YAY! Its my birthday tomorrow, but me and my drinking buddies are going out tonight to celebrate, so I know that I wont be able to post this tomorrow. :P

Turning 19... and I now see that my life is turning to crap, well, more than it has...

Noticed some more grey hair, more hair has fallen out, my back is acting up again, my knees are sore from arthritis and I am tired as all hell from all the travelling I do combined with classes at TAFE...

Well, another year closer to my death... :-\

http://nicole.sourceforge.net/chat.php

I just came across this... and it is really lame. It's one of those stupid script things that tries to have a conversation with you. As soon as I loaded the page, it said "Lets have an orgy!"... so you can probably guess what other "brilliant" things it'll probably come up with.

I reset it, and then it said "Ferrari"... so, from orgies to cars... sounds like a good conversation to have. :P

I also asked it what it's name was... and the program is called NICOLE, so obviously, you'd think thats what it's name is... so what does it say? The answer: Yitar...

Take a look at that. That is the box for the Alien Quadrilogy,  and it is only being released in Japan... damn them! >:(

How awesome would that be to have as a DVD box/case thingy, you want to watch the movie and you have to open up it's bloody head to take one... but I wouldn't want to have it near your bed when you wake up, probably have a heart attack or something.

General Discussion / Are YOU breaking the law?
Wed 14/01/2004 20:28:34
Just found this link at apechild.com, and I'm going through it now. Man, there are some very wierd sex laws around the place.

Heres one... :P

No woman may have sex with a man while riding in an ambulance within the boundaries of quiet little Tremonton, Utah. If caught, the woman is charged with a "sexual misdemeanor," and her name is to be published in the local newspaper." The male isn't charged with anything, nor is his name revealed.
