It turns out that my 2015 was quite a productive year! :D
Here are three MAGS titles that I want you folks to consider!

For Best Short Game, Best Story, Best Character and, dunno, Best Atmosphere and Best Game With a Subtle Meaning, please consider...

A NIGHT THAT WOULDN'T END

On an island far in the North, where nighttime can last for months, a researcher is left alone with a big staring moon, his boredom and an important research to complete, if only there wasn't a power shortage...

Ultimately, this is a game about overcoming boredom and getting stuff done.

HOW TO PLAY
Interact - Left Mouse Button
Examine - Right Mouse Button
G - Adjust Gamma

FEATURES
- Needlessly big chunky pixels
- Debatable science
- Randomly generated soundtrack
- Some John Conway's Game of Life inspired graphics

For Best Short Game, Best Story, Best Graphics, Best Music and Best Dialogues please consider...

A LANDLORD'S DREAM

Abel Lowen, a Stringshaper, gets woke up by his apartment's alarm clock in the middle of the night. When he'll finally get up, late for his band's rehearsal, he will find out that almost nothing seems to be working properly.

What happened? Are others experiencing the same problems? Why is his neighbour hallucinating in the middle of the hallway?

HOW TO PLAY

  • LEFT CLICK - Interact
  • RIGHT CLICK - Examine
  • F5 - Save Game
  • F6 - Load Game

FEATURES

  • 320x200 resolution
  • Sci-fi setting
  • Sci-fi inspired music
  • A rare example of good neighbours' adventuring!

TEAM

  • LostTrainDude - Design, Coding, Music
  • Kastchey - Art, Design
  • CaptainD - Brainstorming Help, SFX, Proofreading

For Best Short Game, Most Funny Game, Best Graphics, Best Song (rather than soundtrack (laugh)), Best Character and Best Dialogues please consider...

This is awesome! 8-)

And also, I put the Ancient Greek I learned in high school to some use... I understood at least the word "demiourgos" (laugh) (I know it is really different from the "modern" one, of course)

Were\are you part of some kind of famous band as well? When they began showing those pictures I began to wonder.

I actually dropped my own monocle when I read the news on the Thimbleweed Park blog (laugh)
Congratulations, really :) I've always found Dropped Monocle's games to be great!

Thanks a lot for sharing!

Lately I can't help but think that a well designed timing puzzle could represent a great boss fight in adventure games, because it breaks the usual flow of the genre and provides more "dramatic tension", if you will.

Off the top of my head, think, for instance, about Full Throttle (not really a spoiler, but anyway...):
Spoiler
The ending section has a nice set of small\medium timing puzzles that, in my opinion, greatly increase the pace and the dramatic effect

I have something resting on my SoundCloud profile.
I made those chiptunes with LSDj, a Gameboy tracker, emulated on my DS.

But they're nowhere as great as the track you linked in your post and, also, are pretty simple in their structure, "loopy" and mostly short. I made them over the last year while experimenting with the tracker :)
Nonetheless: if you think something can help, just tell me and I'll send you the track :D

Aaaand #4 is here!

This time I tried to analyze Technobabylon, which for me was a really interesting game to play. Congratulations to Technocrat and Wadjet Eye! They brought to life a really amazing and heavily-detailed world. The amount of dedication that seems to have been put in this title is something that every game - regardless of the genre - should look forward to, in my opinion :)

Following your feedback, I tried to give a better analysis to the game world as well, other than the puzzles... I hope it was worth it :)
There are plenty of little details that make the world of Technobabylon great and consistent! I hope to have put at least the most important under the spotlight :D

So THIS is what happens when I'm not home...
...Well if so I should stay away more often! (laugh)

I still remember when things were the other way around... Me playing while nobody else was (roll)

Great job, bro! I almost can't tell the difference from the real room :P
Congratulations on your first release and welcome to the AGS Community! 8-)

Whoa-whoa-whoa! I didn't realize how many entries were going to be! :D
Can't wait to play them all. They all look gorgeous! 8-)

Good luck everybody in this last sprint :D
#129
CONGRATS MANDLE! :D A great game indeed!
Glad to have taken part in this great MAGS!

Also, three cheers to xil for the second place and a round of applause for Stupot for hosting this one :D

I KNEW that the Gameboy palette would fit nicely into an adventure game :D
Great to see that isometric style is having its comeback!

Bring it on Rekkimaru!

Must... Contain... The hype...

Great news guys :D Best of luck with the rest of the development!
#132
I've finally managed to play this month's entries :D

Wrong Channel
I loved the exceptional work put together by xil, his style (not just the aesthetics of it, but the whole experience) seems to get more and more of a unique trademark :) (I think I have said that already somewhere, but who cares!).
I've enjoyed the mood and the concept, also the way in which the main puzzle is designed makes you keep your fingers crossed all the time hoping you are right (which is perfectly fine for me, considering that it's an horror game)!

Feng Shui and the Art of TV Reception
Usually I'm not really able to enjoy this kind of "Escape games", but the amount of effort put in this and the unexpected polish made it a really nice experience. Some interactions could need some little more tweaking
Spoiler
I missed the right bunch of pixels when useing the hook-powered wooden stick on the trapdoor on the top a few times, so I initially thought that was not the solution

but none of this felt too frustrating :D

So yes, IT WAS a difficult choice indeed... But I think I'll give my vote to Feng Shui and the Art of TV Reception, because it was more of a surprise for me to enjoy that :) So there's actually nothing against xil's entry!

It has been a great MAGS, folks :D Thank you all for your feedback, appreciation and votes!

On a side note: Bulbapuck thanks A LOT for what you did with your Let's Play videos :D
I had great fun watching you play Fanbots and you actually made me aware of some bugs we couldn't reproduce ourselves once we found them the first time (laugh)

#133
Thanks everybody for the feedback! :D
It was great to work again with Kastchey and CaptainD and I'm really happy of how everything turned out! It was also interesting to play around with the isometric style, which I always had a soft spot for.

And yes, I was completely unaware of the amount of fun I was short of, before CaptainD told me about Red Dwarf! (laugh)

Thanks a lot for the feedback and the heads up magintz! I think I missed that thread when you posted it, so I'm definitely going to check it out now :D

I might have something... Not sure, but I might...
You know what? I'll do what I did for the December MAGS and post something here, quoting myself, "just to convince myself I'll make it in time" (laugh)
Last time it worked!
