Grundislav: Hmm... your latest one is much better than the extreme shoes and I think it will work but I would like to keep the skirt and maybe not having that wide legs but it's not bad, never the less. Well, it works pretty well indoors, since Mrs. Claus spends a lot of times indoors through the whole game.

Pablo: Your boots look good. I think I could use those... but not the mermaid tail, it won't work.

ManicMatt: The shoes could be good but the legs are way too tall.

To everybody: Okay, that's enough of the funny paintovers! It was funny to begin with but now it's getting pretty stupid. From on now, please, only give me serious paintovers and start give me critics, ok?

Scotch: Nice try but the shoes and the feet are waaaaaay too small, like MI3 Guybrush. Besides they tend her to not look so grandmotherly as I intend her to be.

Helm: Sorry but that won't do. Can't just do some more normal footwear instead of those extreme kinds?

Grundislav: Let me ask you this: Would you walk around on the North Pole barefeet? At least I wouldn't.

Esseb: Too kinky.

Helm: Hope that the "not forget about Santa" thing was a joke. By the way, having a pair of elephants doesn't fit her, sorry.

Grundislav: Haha, very funny! I thought for awhile that the forms of the breastlines and the sticking out tummy looked a bit like a face but I never expected that someone would notice it, least joke about it. Ã, :D Oh well.

Privateer Puddin': Say, that must be Santa's boots that you used for your paintover. Maybe the boots isn't so bad idea, except that they're too big.

Right now I'm working on a new game which I aim for release before Christmas because it's a Christmas game. I have a little bit of trouble with Santa's wife.

The one to left of Santa is the one I'm going to use for the game. The others are the original handdrawing. As you can see the original is not straight so that's why it's still there. Anyway, I have a little problem with what kind of footwear she should have. High-heeled doesn't fit for her character, which is sort of a kind grandmother, and I'm not sure if she should have boots like her husband. What kind of footwear do you think I should give her?

Apart from advice on shoes, I'm open to other critics, so just tell me. Note: Let's focus about Mrs. Claus and forget about Santa, ok?

In my current project I'm going to include some quiz questions that are randomly selected three questions out of twenty (or so, haven't decided the maxium yet). This will happen during a dialog so I'm not sure how to script it.

To explain it a little bit better I'll tell you what I want to happen:

When you choice a particular option in a dialog, the quiz starts. The guys you talking to you ask you a question (a new topic starts for each question) and you get different options of answer depending on the question (regular question have three possible answers while yes and no questions only have two). If you get the correct answer you will get to the next question. If you answer all three questions right, you will get to go to a certain room but if you fail at the question the quiz (conversation) stops and you go to restart the quiz.

By the way, I use AGS version 2.62. Just want you to know so that you'll not bring me the "wrong" scripting.

Quote* A broken record -- easy, Maniac Mansion

Beep, wrong! There were two records but none of them were broken nor can they be broken. I think you mixed that up with broken ketchupbottles or the broken chandilair.

Beep, RIGHT! The record you find in the piano room is in fact broken, in the original version of Maniac Mansion (as well as the enhanced and NES versions). LucasFan saw fit to replace it by a Loom Soundtrack in his version, but that's not canon.

Oh, I didn't thought the record was broken. I had played the orignal MM but I didn't remember that the record in the piano room was broken. I didn't mind that it was replaced by the Loom music.

A: No, they were red, and B: The Zelda games are not Adventure games, well at least not Click and Point ones. They're more of action adventures.
There's other kinds of adventure besides point-n-click. The older Sierra games qualify, as do all infocommies. I would certainly call Boy and his Blob an adventure, because there's little to do besides walking through rooms solving the puzzles. Same goes for the Dizzy series.

Okay but still the Zelda games doesn't count as adventure games, not as the kind of adventure games where it requires brains, inventory items, hard thinking (most of the time) than button mashing. Now let's carry on with the unused inventory items.

Quote* 65 pieces of eight -- MI1 has more than that

MI2 also have more than 65 pieces of eight.

Quote* Some garlic -- come on, there's plenty of vampire games out there.

Were there some garlic in any Adventure games? There'll be some garlic in my upcoming Christmas game, though.

Quote* A broken record -- easy, Maniac Mansion

Beep, wrong! There were two records but none of them were broken nor can they be broken. I think you mixed that up with broken ketchupbottles or the broken chandilair.

Quote* Purple boxing gloves -- the Zelda Oracle series have boxing gloves, not sure if they're purple though

A: No, they were red, and B: The Zelda games are not Adventure games, well at least not Click and Point ones. They're more of action adventures.

Quote* the Zak McKracken FM-Towns soundtrack on a cd -- well, in the NES version of Maniac Mansion each character carries a soundtrack in a CD player

Maybe so but none of them had Zak McKraken on them.

Quote* one monkey tail ( sans monkey) -- I think the MI2 copy protection has one.

There wasn't any loose monkey tails in any of the MI games.

Quote* lima beans in jelly -- A Boy And His Blob.
Again not an adventure game even if I haven't played it.

Can't think of any inventory items that haven't been used at the moment.

I didn't have any problems with ScummVM ever.

That's not true. ScummVM (while being really uber cool) is also not bug-free. I've had several problems running CMI and my friend has had countless problems saving on BASS.

Well, so far I haven't got any problem with ScummVM. I've got DOTT talkie version and it runs perfectly fine. It also runs fine with Sam & Max, Indy 3, Loom and Zak McKraken. I agree with the Khrismuc that you should be more specific with what doesn't work.

Maybe you don't place the files in the ScummVM's folder. If you don't then you should place the files TENTACLE.000, TENTACLE.001, TENTACLE.002 and MONSTER.SOU in the folder which have the ScummVM program.

Hope this works.

No, I haven't done that (haven't finished Indy 3 yet and I haven't got Fate of Atlantis but I've got, played and finished all the other games) but there's this guy called Henrik who have played all twelve classic Lucas Arts games in 24 hours. The order are: Maniac Mansion, Zak McKraken, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Loom, The Secret of Monkey Island, LeChuck's Revenge, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max: Hit the Road, Full Throttle, The Dig and The Curse of Monkey Island (But not Grim Fandango and/or Escape from Monkey Island, sorry). This guy have taped this on a video as a proof that he have played through all those games which can be seen here: http://media.putfile.com/Extreme-Adventure.

Now, is there anyone here who wants to put up to this challenge and try to finish all those games less than 24 Hours? Well, not me ...at least not yet, as I said, still need to finish Indy 3 and Atlantis before I can do so.

I noticed that one of the screenshots had a close up on a picture of a Jedi. He really looks a lot like Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan's master. Is it really him?

Could you tell us how the progress is going? Why not tell in percent how much scripting is done, how much backgrounds are done, how much animations are done etc? Many do that.

Quotenote: we might change his look a bit as to make him look a little less skinny.

I hope that will make him also having bigger feet since Guybrush has redicoulusly small feet in MI3 compaired with the other three games where he had "normal" feet.

We're currently deciding on the new look (do we want him smaller, less skinny, ...)

check out the first post here and tell me if his feet are big enough for you. (he's wearing boots)

and I'll take whatever you think on that into consideration

if you want to have a vote: the poll (it'll be closed after a month)

as for the hidden request:

Spoiler
LeChuck will be in ALL forms he's ever been in (though not switching like in EMI, in enhanced CMI style, with the addition of his human form...
Oh, and he won't be the evil running the show... that's someone else's job. LC's lost most of his powers...
[close]

Well, the feet looks not so small as in MI3 but maybe slightly bigger would be better. If you ask me I think that he should have a different outfit and get rid of the beard. One of the things I didn't like about MI2 was that he has a beard because it doesn't suit him. Maybe if you would remake MI2 you could have that sprite but not in a fansequel.

And about LeChuck...

Spoiler
If he's not the actual villian like the previous games, then maybe he is going to have problem with the actual villian and have to cooperate with Guybrush in order to rid of the other villian. Seems a little bit like when Bowser "helps" Mario in Super Mario RPG or in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. I have been thinking sometimes "What if LeChuck have to help Guybrush and be his temporary ally?" and though that would be an intresting concept.

I hope that will make him also having bigger feet since Guybrush has redicoulusly small feet in MI3 compaired with the other three games where he had "normal" feet. Sure Guybrush wears shoes or boots in the others but in MI4 after being moroned on Monkey Island (Is that actually a spoiler because the game IS called "Escape from Monkey Island", which does hint that it will happen somewhere, like in J.R.R Tolkien's "The Return of the King"?), he's barefeet and they're not so small as in MI3.

And also... (possibly big spoiler risk)

Spoiler
If LeChuck is going to come back (which he does in every other game so far) and if he will be able to use the zombie form, then PLEASE don't follow MI4's horrible look for him because I hated and still hate that style for LeChuck's zombie form, especially compaired with his zombie form in MI3 which is great. Pretty please with lots of sugar and cream on the top, don't do that!

Monkey Island 2 does that too. And yes it is a very nice add to the game. I love it.

I was talking about face expressions, not arm movements and so on. That thing was on Sam and Max as well.

It's a demo, not a game... ;)

Actually, it IS a game but it IS a demo game, not a complete game.

I'll like the demo. Good thing that you got rid of the memory problem, it really bugged me. There's one thing that I find strange in the story:

Spoiler
Once you have talked to everyone and gave Gorby/Corby the herb Tom leaves the party to go asleep again but since he have slept through the whole afternoon he should be very hungry by now. I find it strange that Tom doesn't eat before going home to sleep. I would if slept through the whole afternoon.

By the way, I love the change of expressions while the characters are talking, it's something that's not common in adventure games (The Curse of Monkey Island was the only 2D commersial game that does so, as far as I know), especially not in AGS games.
#136
I'm not sure if it's a running gag but why must all your characters spit everytime they talk? If you want to make something different, skip the spitting.

For the walking aniamtion, the legs doesn't move right. Make the other leg in a darker color then the nearest so you can see differnce between them. Also, the bottom keeps go up and down which looks wrong. I suggest that you should make the space above the character's head to shift rather than the bottom jump (which is annoying to look at).

I'm with Vel on this one. I think they're just laying low.

It's pretty obvious just from the way they phrased it. They're shutting down their "web appearance" because of "recent events" (and we all know what -that- refers to). I'm sure they'll be back when the smoke blows over.

I hope that is true because it would be such a shame to loose such a good agser as LucasFan and a one who made excellent LucasArts fangames. I can't believe that LucasArts even bother to tell fans to shut down the fan-sequels when they don't even work on anyone themselves. I mean, most of us are doing this for free and the fan-makers are guys who adore LEC's games, not dis-like it or hate it. Unlike downloading LEC's games free from the net, they don't loose nor earn any money for that we do fan-games. It's one thing if you sell a fan-game without licesense but not doing it for free? They should understand this and let us be.

Well, while we wait for LucasFan's eventual return, we other fan-gamers should carry on to kindle the fires of our love for the games we adore by not recoil at LEC's drastic actions but to continue making fan-games.

You mean "SetCharacterIdle". You're not telling me the full code for the 2.62 Version, only the SetCharacterIdle bit. Please, tell me the whole code.
#139
I think that's for the 2.7 version but what about 2.62 version?
#140
Is it possible to have a idle veiw for the main character that is randomly selected between three or more veiws, like in DOTT? If yes, then how?
