It's been a long time since I last entered in this competition (I think it was in 2005), but this month I've got time and I really like the topic, so let's get ready to steam :D

My game is far from being finished, too, but at least I've got two rooms completed and even the walking animations of the main character (this has been delaying me most). The only problem is that I couldn't wait to actually start drawing the graphics before completing the story and the quests  ;D.

But I think (or hope) I'm gonna make it till the deadline.

Since my last entry was exactly one year ago, I think it's time to take part in the competition again - and I really love the topic "underworld". The only problem could be that I don't know if I'm having enough time this month, but at least I'm gonna try to finish the game :).

By the way: Is it allowed to use characters from an older game or do all the graphics have to be completely new?

Really strange, because I've tested the game so many times and it really never crashed on my computer.

Maybe it's some problem with playing the sounds, because you said it crashed when trying to fill the bucket (because then a water sound is played) - but I really have no idea what else it could be.

Hi Reaper's Lady.

Well, actually there should have been a clue that a spaceship crashed there and that Fred was an Alien: After having assembled the radio set there's a cutscene where you get a message from the other Alien that tells about Fred being one of his species and that he has crashed.

Unfiortunately several people couldn't see it because the accidentally cancelled this cut-scene. In the next version I'll indicate better that there's a cutscene starting after having completed the radio set.

Well, as the one who has made the game I should maybe give you some tips :):

Spoiler
* You really can't get the rubber gloves from the closet - and you won't need them
* The battery and the antenna don't fit together, but they both have to be put onto the strange metal box Tim finds in the middle of the black spot on the parking lot.
* After these three parts have been put together you have to look at the box (= radio set) and it starts to send and receive a message - maybe some of you accidentally cancelled this cutscene by right-clicking the mouse. I think I should change that in another version
* The person you talk to on the radio set will give you a recipe for making spaceship fuel with some strange ingredients you have to find: water, protein, carbon and starch
* Finding the starch, the water and the protein shouldn't be difficult - and concerning the carbon: Think about what rubber is made of

You can't put the boots into the bucket in one piece, so you have to...

Hi Tentacle.

I really like the graphics and the sound of your game, but I haven't found out yet how to make a savegame.

"Missing since Midnight" is an entry for the February 2005 MAGS with the topic "Hotel".

.

You can find "Missing since Midnight" at http://www.voigtmann-online.de/Arne/games/msm/msm.zip (about 4.5 mb)
Find out more about the game on its Games page.

MSM takes part in a more than 400 years old half-timbered house that the owner has made into a hotel. You are playing Tim Buktu, a private detective who just wanted to go for a holiday. But then someone is missing and you are asked to help searching for the missing person.

Features:
* eight characters, three of them are female
* eight rooms, including guest room, kitchen, reception, dining-room and parking lot
* 50 different animation phases
* more than 6000 words (40 kb of texts)

Since the game is very text-laden, so it will take about one to two hours to finish the game when not cancelling the dialogs.

I don't know how long I've been working on this game but it must have been more than 40 hours.
I started the game on February 6th and finished it just two minutes before midnight (CET) on February 25th.

UPDATE (March 2nd) V 1.05:
* some typos and other text mistakes corrected
* some new animation phases: Tim can tip over the bucket now, and Freds eats and looks at Mel and Tim during supper
* sentences for unhandled events like talking to an object/hotspot added
* German translation added
* some minor bugs corrected, now Tim can't go outside on Day 1 and the starting of the scene with the talking radio set has been changed, so that it can't be cancelled mistakenly that easy
* during all cut-scenes that can be cancelled by ESC or a right mouse click the status bar is switched off
* the Intro sequence has been a bit refurbished
WARNING: Because of the new animation phases older savegames won't work with the new version.

For the future I've planned to maybe make a voice pack (depending on how much time I've got).

Finally I've managed to finish my game - and I'm finished, too :D.

You can find "Missing since Midnight" at http://www.voigtmann-online.de/Arne/games/msm/msm.zip (about 4 mb)

.

The game includes eight characters, the same number of rooms, sound effects, more than 50 animations, three different musics and especially very very much dialog.

Oh, by the way: This is the first game I made with AGS.

Hi.

I couldn't find anything about it, neither in the forums nor in the AGS help files.

In my game a cutscene starts when looking at a certain inventory item, and after it has finished the inventory window pops open again what doesn't look very good.

I know that InventoryScreen(); brings up the default inventory window, but is there any script function existing to close it again?

I'm coming along with my game, and although nearly all the graphics are completed, all the story details are planned and most of the quests are complete I don't know if I'll manage to finish the game within the next 5 1/2 hours, because there are still some minor things missing - including the Outro . But I'll give my best :).

@DontTreadonMe: That looks really LEGOesk, I'm looking forward to see the finished game.

My own game is making progress, too. Up to now I've included two NPCs, six rooms and much dialog. It'll be in a comic style (I  can't do anything else  :-\) and the story will be something between crime, mystery, history and SF. My working title is "Missing since Midnight" but mabe I'll change that to another alliteration.

@Squinky: When did the wood die  ;D?

I'm gonna take part in this month's MAGS, too - but because it's my first adventure I'm still struggling with a few technical problems and I don't know if the story isn't too long to manage it in just four weeks.

But I'll give my best and hope that I can finish it before the deadline :).
