Khris:
Thank you. Yes, I want the game to emulate that fantastic nostalgic SCUMM feeling.

I have just updated the STORY section in the main post with a bit more information regarding the plot.

True enough. I didn't really know which number to put in the story progress, since I've got it more or less planned out in my head, but haven't written a lot down. Thus 50% became the number, since one needs a number.

Currently I am giving the game a graphical facelift, redoing the sprites and backgrounds. Sprites are all done, but I still have a few backgrounds left. Example of the new look in the top of the main post.

STORY
Dick Valentine is a failed writer living in London. One evening when he wakes up with a terrible headache; someone has left him a letter at the door. The letter contains a card with only an address and the mysterious signature "D". When Dick decides to seek out the mysterious sender, his life starts to turn somewhat more interesting. A recent science fiction short story he wrote for a magazine dug into the old mystery of the Dropa Stones; ancient stone discs claimed to have been found in a cave in the Himalaya mountains. Funded by a mysterious benefactor, Dick Valentine travels the world searcing for clues that will unveil the secret of these strange lost artefacts.

ABOUT THE GAME
Dick Valentine is a traditional point-and-click graphic adventure game. The graphical style, music and sound design are tributes to old school classics such as Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. The game's world is presented from a side scrolling point of view. The puzzles are based on using and manipulating items, and on dialogue with bizarre characters.

Glad to hear that. I feel the game is becoming increasingly absurd and random, to tell the truth.

Always nice to be missed. I hope to make more frequent updates on the process in the weeks to come. By the way, does it count as gore if it is made from a rotten tomato in order to frame somebody for a murder that isn't actually a murder?

Updated development information. The development is going steady at the moment, as I finally have some free time to waste. The past few weeks have been very productive. Hopefully the game will be finished this fall. Or at least ready for testing. I hope some nice people want to help me out polishing the final touches when the time comes. Not only concerning bugs, but also whether jokes are woking or not.

For those who say the ending was predictable:

Spoiler

Did you really pick up that the five "rooms" were the five stages of grief?
If so, bravo.

The people who didn't pick that up can't read.

Are you using the D3D mode or DX5 mode?

Those filters are only available in Direct Draw 5 mode.

BTW, what colour depth is your game set at? I've asked this before.

32-bit

This is the error message I get:

I can't seem to make these filters to work on the games. I just get an error. I am under the impression thate these filters are not fully functioning in AGS. Will they be soon? It would be great to have those filters on my low-res game.

Damn! I hoped the title was meant literally.  ;D

Made a blog entry about your game at my game blog

Can't wait for this to get finished!

Minor update. Two alternative download locations for the demo.

I find the graphics to be okay, but those default gui buttons images, really put me away (no offence there). I think it would be proper and easy to change them.
The screenshots are a bit old. Those buttons were just temporary. All GUI is now custom.

QuoteMany people find it more annoying when they can't skip dialog the way they're used to. Perhaps you could make it an option?
Yes, good point. I might reconcider it. Optional is a good idea, but when I think of it I think I'll just change the whole thing back to mouse skip.
