The second AGS Originality Quest Competition is about to be starting!
AGS-OQ is a serie of competitions that are somehow related to originality. You can read all the information you want to know about AGS-OQ at the website. You can view the rules, entry's of this and previous competitions, and see the prices available!

This originality quest is about dialogs. It's the goal to write a so original as possible dialog between 2 characters.

4- Make the dialog as original as possible. Try to avoid a clichè!
5- Do not write it like one-line-question, one-line-answer style, but try making real conversations.
6- The conversation can be about anything, but try not to hurt peoples feelings with it!
7- Send your entry by email to peter@w8ff.com, or PM me, at the forum. the username is "Minimi".

Hi there. I just finished my very first tutorial ever. This tutorial is about creating a (wacky) room with the 3D application Bryce5. I made this tutorial for people that want to use bryce for creating nice backgrounds/objects for their games, but can't affort an expensive program, or just don't understand the 3D modelling. In this tutorial I'll show you, that you can easily make something nice.

The tutorial is devided into 3 Chapters.
you can find the tutorial at my solidus software website, or just click the links below to the chapters.

Chapter 1 - Setting up the room walls
Chapter 2 - Symmetric Modelling
Chapter 3 - Adding more objects

I hope you like my tutorial, and that you find it useful!
Here is a picture of the endresult of the tutorial :

For my new game, I want to make something in the way like in Zelda, that you have a moneybag, besides your inventory, with a number besides it, wich shows how much coins you have. It's for me still pretty misty about the GUI's so I actually don't know if this should be at beginners forum.

But so I want to show how much coins I have, I guess by showing a global value, but how do I make this?

I don't know if you are interested in it, but I would like to let you know, that I have finally finished the work on my site, to rearrange it, and update it. You can now view easily wich games i've made, and wich are coming.

You can also find some of my 3D-art, and in the near future, there will come some tutorials that I'm making on my website, that are related with adventuregame-creation.

Furthermore there will come alot of free spritepacks, GUI's and midi's I'm making. I hope you will like them all, and I hope I can add through this something to the community.

I am about to make some tutorials to help some of the community improve their drawing. There are already alot of tutorials about photoshop, psp, mspaint... and 3dmax... but I wondered if there are any more people out there like me using Bryce5? I think it's a very good 3D program and it's cheap.. only $100 ... so is anyone looking forward on learning how to make good backgrounds in Bryce for adventure games??

I was planning on making the first tutorial about "how to make a wacky room with bryce5?". Here is an example of the endresult of the first tutorial :

So please tell me if you own bryce5 or ;) and if you are personally interested in this?! The tutorials will be hosted on my new website, wich I'm right now creating.

Should I release a demo now, of my game Sam&Moos or should I work further on the game and release it when it's all finished?

The thing is : I first told you people that I would release it very soon, but I got slown down, and now I'm working again on the game. I have right now 7 of 21 rooms finished. I'm working on this for some long time, and I figure that's it's going to take some time untill I finish the full game.

So is it worth to release a demo of only 7 rooms? Won't that screw up the gameplay of the whole game, when it IS finished? Please give your opinion on this.

One more thing. I'm never using bad language, or violence like blood in games, so you can surely let little children also play the game ;)

It might be because you don't come so often at the competition forum, or that you just don't like the competition, but I would like to bring up to you people that you may all give your votes to the best plot/story of the competition.

Untill now only members have given their votes, that actually entered the tournament, but we need also votes from people that aren't in. So if you have some minutes of spare time would you please be so nice to give your top 3 votes in the following topic?

http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=9;action=display;threadid=8202

you can find the entry's at www.ags-oq.tk

Thanks in advance!

General Discussion / I bought a few games
Sun 21/09/2003 16:04:39
in the past days I had this illness to buy everything my eyes saw, and I figured to go search for some good pc adventure games.
I bought these titles:

Syberia - 19,99 euro
Grim Fandango - 14,99 euro
Crime Scene Investigation - 24,99 euro

Im wondering if the games are any good. Crime scene investigation is in my opinion pretty easy... and syberia is amazing beautifull, but i hadn't much time to play it.
For Grim Fandango reminded it me on lba2, and im enjoying it, but what do you think of these games, and did you played them?

I know there are some people here playing counterstrike (me2) and I was wondering if it would be fun, to make an =]AGS[= clan?! Do you think that's a good idea, or do you think its just crap??

I know counterstrike isn't really the kinda game that relates to adventures, but still its a cool game ;P ... so just let know if what you feel for AGS clan?

I have just recieved a reply from Power Unlimited (the most popular game-magazine of the Benelux!

I asked them if they could write an article about adventure games, the old ones, and review it weither adventures are dead or not. I told them some ways to write this, including the link to AGS, and I told them the power of AGS, and that many people make in there spare time free cool adventure games.

They wrote me back, and told me they were interested in this topic, and they checked out AGS, they even downloaded it, and have tested some bits of it. They told me they were going to make an article about it, wich will be published in October or November!!

Now thousands and thousands of people from The Netherlands and Belgium are going to know about AGS, and be inspired to play adventure games again!

I am really excited about this, I only hope CJ doesn't blame me, if you DO, please tell me, and I will contact them, to not mention AGS. I have asked them to pull off a inspiring article for adventures, and they told me they would!

1. Today, I was working almost all the time on my game, and I managed to finish 1 background and 1 animated object. I figured that making good adventures is time-eating, and reguires lots of your time. I was actually wondering at what speed you work, say how much time does it take for you to actually finish a background, and I'm not talking about the working time, but about all time with eachother, because I have also some times, that I need to do something else, like go cycling, or EAT! ;)

2. And second I wanted to if I should first make all sprites and then the programming or some of all through eachother. I do not talk about weither you should first complete the plot/storyline.. because thats obvious. So do you complete all your sprites and backgrounds first, or do you start at the scripting?
