KQ has these popups when you talk to somone, with a character photo, and besides their answers to you. What I want to create is that when you speak to a character in the game, that when you have a dialog runned, that you see the GUI popupwindow, with the character's image, and next to it, their answer to you.

Has someone done this before, or is there a tutorial for this? Thanks alot in advance!

edit : Is it also possible to animate that closeup picture of the character you're talking to?

I was wondering this, as I'm playing Grim Fandango now for over a year, and I just finished "Year 1", of the game. I couldn't figure one puzzle out, with a sign in the ground.

I refuse to use a walkthrough, to finish games, though I did use for some games, like "The Longest Journey", and "The Uncertainty Machine", the walkthrough to complete it. I broke my commitment there.

I finished the following games on my own :

Amerzone
Syberia(cd1 finished, playing at cd2)
Myst 1
Jack Orlando
Ark of Time
Blade Runner
Broken Sword 2
Kings Quest VII
Goblins III

all other games, I'm still playing or gave up on. I'm talking about the big games here. So my question to you is : Do you often use walkthroughs for an adventure game? Or do you refuse to use them? And wich games have you honestly completed without a walkthrough/cheating? To my opinion, alot of games are just too hard!  ::)

Modelled in Wings3D and rendered in Bryce5.

Wireframe of the head, in Wings3D

I'm not sure yet weither I'm going to use it in a game as character or make a 3D cartoon of it. Just my simple question, do you like it? ;)

Hello folks!

Half September is the day that I'm going to my new school 200 km from my home. I'm getting trained to become a childrens-missionary. I will go for example to Brazil, and work with homeless children, to help them. It's a christian school, and it learns me to spread the good new to children in the most effective way. I will get gitar-lessons, clownery, sport&games, discipline-training, disciple-training, and alot more.
I will have access to my computer, but not the internet.

The school takes until June 2005. Then I'll return, and probably also to AGS. I hope to find the time in the coming year to also continue some work on my game "The Void".

I don't think you'll miss me, but you might even do... I don't know. Well..I will miss you! Not that I'm already going, I just would like to say hearby ; Good luck to people here still in school, or with your work, or even wife (ssh) ;). I hope that you may all finish your games, or atleast have alot of fun!

God Bless!

I need for my game, alot of close up screens of objects for when you look at them. Also I need those screens where you can read a diary book fullscreen, and you can browse through the pages back and forth.

I need the best way in doing this. If I need to use a new room for every page and closeup, that'll take 100 rooms. So I figured you should do something maybe with a GUI in one specific room for it, but I have the faintest idea of how to accieve this.

Could someone please explain to me how this works? Dave Gilbert for instance, used it in his game...

Thanks in advance!

I downloaded this game from TheUnderdogs website (140mb), and now I try to run it, but i get some errors.

When I run Holmes2.exe it says to first run Install

Then I run install, and it says it can't find install.bmp , but it is there!

Then I runned as a last hope holmes.bat file, and the game started. I was releaved and thought the adventure began, untill the intro was over, and an error came wich said "There was an error trying to open file Speech60.LIB"

grr... can somebody help me, or better said... is there anyone that can help me? I'm a fan of Sherlock Holmes books and games!

I've decided to add cutscenes to the game "The Void", and I'm trying to model my whole room in Wings3D, and I wondered what you think of the stairs right now? It's in wireframe showed, and I just done the stairs and walls untill now.

here is the picture of the room of the ingame graphics

also.. I need to know if you think it would be an addition if there were these flythrough cutscenes when you enter a new area? I mean, would you like to view that, or rather skip it?
#48
Yes, I'm still here! I haven't posted much lately, but I'm still working on my game The Void. I'm working on this background, and I got this far.

UPDATED :

- fixed the perspective on the flowerwall
- fixed the perspective on the bookcase
- shortened the lamp
- removed the checkboard on the painting
- made changes on the door
- added a calendar on the wall
- added a table, with candle, notes and a box of cookies
- removed the window

I need to know if everything looks OK. And furthermore I need help with adding a desk table, in the front of the room, against the wall. It may sound odd, but I couldn't get the perspective right of the table... :'(

Critics' Lounge / My first model with Wings3D!
Wed 02/06/2004 23:46:06

My first modelled object with Wings3D! Rendered in CorelBryce5.
It's not a fantastic render, I know, I'm learning Wings3D, and this took me a couple of hours...

It's made along the tutorial, but I'm just proud that I managed to make it, and excited about future modelling of me :)

tell me what you think of it!

I myself am a hardcore Bryce user, but I want to dig something deeper into the modelling part. I bought Bryce 2 years ago, and I could say that I know pretty much everything of it.

Now that I don't have much money, I came onto Wing3D. wich is a free modelling program. From the first moment I was enthousiastic about it, so I'm learning it.

I have always wanted to make of my character Pimmy Pencil, a 3D game. Till now I got this far with CorelBryce5 :

or for full size : http://minimi.spijbelaars.com/cactus1024x768.jpg
But I'm not very happy about the result, because Bryce limits me pretty much!

So I want to model it in 3D with Wing3D, and then use it in a game.

What application can I best use for that?
I want a cheap program, wich allows 3rd person, and 3ds, or wavefront models. I want to be able to make a commercial game with it.
2 engines are falling away already
- Blender -> because when I leave the program the buttons disappear and it crashes all the time(maybe someone got a patch for this?)
- 3D Gamestudio way too expensive![/b]

Please give me some info on 3Dgame-development applications, so I can choose one to buy, or use, if it's freeware ;)

This is the thread in wich I will keep updating all new things I make. That could be games, open sources, gui, spritepackages, midi, sounds, and more... Everything is free for download, but if you use something for your own use, just give me credit, and it's ok :)
I hope there is some helpful stuff inbetween. If you click on a banner, you go to it's info page, or direct download.

Hi there!
I worked all day on a new GUI, for my MAGS game Ralph the Raven.
I'm pretty happy with the result, but I wonder what you think of it, and if I should spell something different or make it better?!

When the mouse is over the buttons, they will light up alittle, and this bar is shown on the bottom of the screen. This is my first own GUI, so I'd really like to hear some opinions!

thanks in advance!

ps: the bluecup, was just a quick testobject I drawed :P

NEWS : Game is almost ready. I have everything drawn, the GUI works, animations are done,  hotspots and messages.... just need to script the puzzles, and make an intro, and introscreen. Probably today, or tomorrow done!
----------------------------------------------------------

And once again I'm going to enter the MAGS competition, with a game about animals. This time you play as Ralph the raven!

story/plot : Ralph fell of a tree in his sleep, and broke his wing. The owl helped him, to take him to his house, up in the tree. When Ralph is back to strength, he still can't fly, and needs help from the owl, to take care of his broken wing, to heal again. But the owl wants something in return, and asks you to first steal an egg from a near nest. The owl would make too much noise, but you are a small bird, and able to take it.
Only if you bring the egg safely to the owl, he will take care of your wing!

game info : It's a small game of only 3 playable rooms. I hope it will be a funny game, and I try to make the puzzles not to easy, and give the player an enjoying play. Resolution is 320x240, and backgrounds are drawn with Graphics Gale, and The Gimp.

I'm just finished with the 3 backgrounds, and now I can concentrate on character animation, and objects for the game. I have to start scripting though, but all puzzles are thought out! :) Game will be finished somewhere next week, probably!

screenshot :

this is only the background, not an ingame screenshot!

Hope you will like it!

OK here's the thing...

I'm developing a new adventure game, wich I haven't announced yet (just because I want to have alot of progress before I show something), but now that I make some progress, I begin to doubt weither the adventure is a cliche, or just good. So I'll just explain what/where the game is about, in big lines, though I don't want to reveal too much.

Game title : The Void
Atmosphere : Drama
Game length : between medium and full length
Planned release date : beginning 2005 (optimistic)

Game story/plot : You are (as the player) an old man, wich name I haven't chosen yet. This old man is married for a long time. They had one son, but he is already grown up. Your wife is a christian with all her heart, and tried in the past to convince you to become also a believer, but you don't believe abit of it. That made your wife sad, though she accepted your choice, and left it there. You as the player, are pretty much burned out on life, and the only really important thing in life you have left is your dear dear wife.

The game starts at your own home, where your wife also is. Then after several puzzles and progress on the story, and having contact with other people in the town, like a good friend of yours, who likes to play chess with you (puzzle!?), the day is over, and day 2 starts.

cutscreen:
When you wake up in your bed, besides your wife, you go downstairs, take some orange juice, and also for your wife, and go back up. Then when you call the name of your wife, several times and she does not respond, you feel her chest, and there is no movement or heart-beat. You panic completely and grab the phone as quick as you can to call the ambulance. When they arrive and try to reanimate her, it seems useless, and they tell you that she past away.

Now the world of you (player), completely collapse, and you become really depressive and go see a shrink. He/She tells you that you should find a new hobby, or new dream/goal in your life. So this is where it really starts, to find something to fill the empty void inside of you.

My goal of the game is to let the player be able to play this game non-linear and be able to finish it in multiple ways. For example, you could do suicide, because you as player can't find any good way to fill up the void.

I want to make use of some sort of counter that counts your emotion. So every decision you make, could effect this meter. Depending on your emotion, you get several lines to say, dialogs to speak.

This is pretty much the outline of the game, as it is at the moment. I have planned to make the game have between 60 - 80 rooms.

I have drawn 4 rooms+animation, and the maincharacter+walkanimation.

Thank you for taking the time, to read the outline of my upcoming game, and as soon as I made more progress I will release screenshots and announce the game in, Games in Production.

Please give me all the support or comments that you have, because I want this game to be GOOD!

For those that are eager to know what the game looks like (underneath you can see the graphics of the game, on wich I based a tutorial I made, for drawing those graphics)

Ok, I just have no idea how to call it, what I want to accieve, so please don't mind the LONG subject.

I'm trying to make a GUI that when I'm with the mousepointer on an object/hotspot, that besides the pointer the name of that hotspot/object appears.

Could anyone point me to an already excisting tutorial on this, or explain to me how to accieve this? Untill now I really haven't got much grip on the GUI, and would like to learn it better!

Thanks in advance!

Hi there! My monitor is very dark and before I formatted my pc I had an option in the windows display properties to adjust my brightness. Now I don't have that, and I don't know where to look for something like that.

I want to continue drawing for my game, but I can't when my monitor display is incorrect, so please help me!

So I need an application, or driver that would allow me to adjust my windows brightness settings!

I have my own computer standing at the room of my dad. I don't know what he did with the computer, but today when I turned the computer on, it couldn't recieve the monitor. I checked the cables at the back, and they were ok. Then I put on another monitor, and still the same problem, so It's not the monitor.

I couldn't find anything wrong inside the pc, and also I'm not the best at hardware, so I'm not gonna touch something if I don't know what it's for ;) Do you people know what the problem might be, and how to solve it? It's really important to me!
