General Discussion / I hate those virusses!
Fri 02/04/2004 10:45:44
I can't start winamp, realplayer, ags, antivirus, icq, msn (crashes after 10min), the gimp, graphicsgale, EXPLORER.EXE!!!!

Aargh, the only thing that works alittle is Internet Explorer (not to mention the oversized amount of adware), and outlook.

I hate them, and by that I mean really want to crush them in the palm of my hand. Now I have to waste once again, a DVD on all my pictures, and game source files
I'm unable to burn *.exe or compressed files, because they contain the virus. I now just hope that I can find my windows cd  :-\ , and re-install my pc, and get everything back as normal.

Hi there. A few weeks ago, I found my backups again, that I thought I lost, with some games I made a few years ago. I left all the graphics about the same, and just finished the games by adding some sounds/music and translation from dutch to english.

Now I added them to my website, and I was wondering weither you like them. I also want to know if you like the new games lay-out of my gamespage on http://www.solidussoft.tk

I post this also, as abit of a promotion, for the games (doh!), I mean.. who would go to my website anyway?
You can click on the banners to download them directly or go to my website : http://www.solidussoft.tk ;)

Please tell me what you think of Letterlost, and Bugger! Bear in mind that the games were made approximatley 2 years ago.

Yes, it's true! Theres a very very heavy storm here in The Netherlands! The wind is almost lifting people up. I couldn't stand outside. Sirenes of ambulances everywhere around. Trees almost blown away!! I never saw such a storm!

I'm just home from a whole day work at the supermarket, and while cycling to home, the storm was coming up. At that time I could cycle pretty good, but right now, it's unbearable!

Is there anywhere else also storm? Or have you had any expierences like this?

I just felt like telling you this, cause im affraid, there will happen lots of accidents (or already happened)  :-\

Welcome to the AGS Soundchallenge! Make some noise, it's your choice!

The AGS Soundchallenge is a weekly competition, where everyone can enter the competition, by recording a *.wav, or *.mp3, or *.ogg file under the restrictions of the week.
Every entry will be kept in a database, of sounds.

Soundchallenge rules :

- You record your own sound, in a *.wav, or *.mp3, or *.ogg file, that is the maximum size of 200KB
- The entry is restricted under the weekly rules
- Try to keep the file size as low as possible
- The winner of the weekly challenge, will be chosen by the winner of the week before.
- The prize of the winner, is that he/she will set the rules for the next SoundChallenge!
- When you enter the competition and post in this thread, then post also the title of the soundfile. Make it recognizeable for others, that download it.
- The winner includes this information above into their next SoundChallenge thread!

RULES OF THIS WEEK : MouthSounds
im not making the rules too difficult the first time, so I expect alot of entry's. Use your imagination, because that's what I like to see ;)
*Create a soundfile made with your own mouth, and microphone. (for example, a dog barking, waterdrups, a fart)
*Maximum length : 5 seconds

My Examples : You Lose, Dog Wraff, Sneeze

Have fun recording!

In the roomeditor you can set for objects/walkbehinds etc... a baseline, but the baseline is always horizontal. If it was possible to be able to choose between the horizontal/vertical baseline, then gamepossibilities would grow much bigger. It would also be handy to be able to choose for both coordinates as baseline. Is this possible?

I've became pretty much used to "The Gimp" now, and I'm practising my skills of "character pixel-art". My intension was to create an old man, and old fashioned. I might use this character as main character for a game, but I need some help, for improving the character where that's needed.

I was searching today for more free applications, and I'm not sure weither you already know this, but there is an absolutely free version of Truespace! This program is around the $300, but version 3.2 is free to download. I tried it, and it works very easy, and is also powerful!

Here is the link : http://forms.caligari.com/forms/ts3all_free.html

A few weeks ago I threw away all my illegal applications/mp3/movies/games, and I'm looking for PS somewhere. I don't need the newest version, but just something with a payable price. What I mean with payable is about 20 - 40 euro.
preferable, somewhere near The netherlands, or UK.

I've been working today on this new cartoon, of my own made cartoon characters, and website http://www.pimmy.tk
I haven't done anything on it in along time, but me and my friend started again working on it, and I was wondering what you think of it. The language is Dutch, but by only watching, you should be able to figure out what it's about. All our cartoons are made with MSPaint btw...

Ok we all know CJ will die sooner or later, so here is my song dedicated to the great Chris Jones. Listen to it, or don't... but eitherway, here it is ;D ;D ;D

http://minimi.spijbelaars.com/DJMinimi-CJdontdie.mp3 (920KB)

I hope you like the melody to it, and the bass and such. I am actually making a serious dance-song, but I felt like adding some wacky speech ;D

Lyrics :

Oh my God, Chris Jones died!
What will happen to Adventure Game Studio?
Roger will die!
No L3NS FL@1R!!!1111!!
That sucks!
No L3NS FL@1R!!!11!!!
That sucks

Just don't die!
Just don't die!
Chris Jones just fuckin don't die, or I'll beat the crap out of you!

#73
I was wondering what would happen if Chris Jones would be hit by a car suddenly, or accidently fall from a bridge and get hit by a train, or anything similair.

Is there someone with access to the script to carry on with AGS? Will AGS just stop with upgrades, and remember their dear CJ?

Did anyone ever thought about this? Not that I'm looking forward to seeing CJ die, but it could happen to anyone.  :-\

Ok, I'm drawing a dvd-case cover for my own ags-game, and I have a question about this. What should be the size of the image to be the right size, when you print it out. How do I know wich size I should use?

 8) 8) 8)It's 1 February 8) 8) 8), and that means it's party here! I'm a year older!I hope to get a discman so I can finally listen some music during riding my bike to school.

Wow, the time really fly's by... and before you know it, you are an adult (or atleast you are expected to behave like one). Not that I'm already an adult.. FAR FROM IT! but you do have to grow up from time to time...

Well... let's not think about it too much, and just enjoy the day with cake and more cake, and some visitors coming over.

Greetz, and I hope you all will have a great day today in whatever you do! ;D

I hope you find this subject interesting. It's one of the questions that keep me busy the previous days.

We all know that in the past 20 years the development of computergames been really fast and from funny arcade games, the industry growed to simulated realism.

I've been thinking alot on this subject, and I must say that it kinda scared me, when I was imaginating about the future.

For 10 years ago, there were good games like pacman and commander keen, sensible soccer, or early adventure point and click games.

Nowadays the industry got more close to realism and when you look at some of the screenshots of games from EA, games like maxpayne or Myst, or fps games, it's almost like we are in a REAL world. Though still we can find some bugs, and things aren't so real when you get used to them.

What do you think that computergames will be like in 10 years? Will it be possible to smell things, or can you maybe get transferred with your body into the game, and walk around in a virtual world. Will computergames get too scared, for people that we can't see the difference between fake, and realism? I'd like to hear some voices about these things, because I think it's an interesting subject, to know where we lay our boundries, and how far will we go with our development??

-->UPDATE 16/01/04<--
I just drawed+animated the maincharacter of the game, and it seems like it only fits the backgrounds at the resolution 640x400, so I've changed the gamesize to 640x400.
I also added a picture of the the maincharacter, when he is standing.
------------------------------

I'd like to announce my upcoming game, The Windmill, wich is in highly development.

This game is about the good old times of The Netherlands "Holland". You play as a farmer man. You will meet in this game the man of the windmill and the owner of the cheese factory. There are some animated backgrounds, and some puzzles, though not too much. They game is only 6 rooms, though I hope it becomes a nice little game for you!

I won't reveal too much of the story though ;)

The Maincharacter :

Here are some backgrounds of the game, I made. They are handdrawn with a fineliner on paper, then scanned and edited/coloured in photoshop.

Hey, I have 2 questions, on wich I can't find an answer.

Question #1  :

Is it possible to script that on user double click with walk icon, then the player turns to run animation and increases speed? And same when you click ones, turn to walk animation.

Question #2 :

In the view of the walkanimation of my character, I play a sound everytime the feet touch the ground. But is it possible to change this sound with a scriptcommand further in the game? Like first, she is walking on carpet, but later on she walks in the snow, and it wouldn't be right, if the sound was the same!

Is it possible to make walkbehinds/objects that are for example 70% transparent? I'm developing my next big project game, in an isometric style, and I'd like to have this effect, but I don't think it's possible with AGS, at the moment, or is it? If it's possible can someone tell me how to do this?

And if not, CJ, is it possible to implent this to Adventure Game Studio?
