Yes I know its lame to use Poser models... Do you think it would be nice to use cartoon style characters on 3D background?

Here is an update on the picture, I hope it looks better now, that its abit darker, and less saturation. It only needs the rain plugin... ;)

Well what I make is like, when you talk to a window, he says...

"For as far as I know, windows do not talk, but I could give it a try.."
"Hello, Window!"
"...."
"argh!"
"Nope they don't talk!"

So you can make a little talk around it, and I actually hope this is humor, because this is the kind of humor I use in my game ;)

Using something on a object that does not work :

"Let me get my situation-guidencebook..."
"*searching...*"
"Well, it's not in the situation-guidencebook, I'll try something else!"

Critics' Lounge / Lucy Character "Narnia"
Mon 18/08/2003 22:01:00
Here is my first completed character for Narnia Adventure. It's lucy the youngest girl of the four children. It is maybee a bit large, for 640x400, but I'm using scaling. Tell me what you think of her like this

#1145
Yes, I know, This was just to show the house-model ;) I was already planning on making some dark clouds, and using the rain plugin, to make it wet ;)

I am also going to resize the leaves! Thanks for the comments! I'm right now busy making the first character Lucy...
#1146
how do I make that when the player doesn't move the player always turns in its view to down animation?
#1147
Wow! Thanks alot Pessi! That was really usefull help! I'm going to try this out, making a 3d primitive for everything. I looked at your 2 drawings, and I can only hope to draw once as good as you!

I myself am going now on the 3D tour... but ofcourse I know an adventure looks better when its hand drawn, but o well... I keep practising that, and when I'm something better at that, I'm making a game handdrawn...

Pretty strange, I'm better in 3D than a simple 2D picture ;)

I love to help people with graphics problems, and others help me too. but you just sound very lazy! If you can't make a str8 line without ctrl... use ctrl... and if you dont want to, keep practising untill you can!

You can compare making graphics to golf. If you want to be a good golf player, you need to practice sometimes thousand times, to make a little change in your hit. Same to graphics. I'm practising also alot, and when it comes to drawing with a graphics tablet, it's also rubbish. But I keep practising cause I know I'm getting better by practice.
So here is something you could try doing

1. Just use paint and do pixel art like I did here :

2. Use a drawing tablet, and keep practising or draw it first on normal paper, and then draw over the lines.
3. Use a 3D render program, where I am pretty good at, in comparisation to normal drawing! here is an example of a train that I'm working on right now :

And you can always use Photoshop or PaintShopPro to edit your picture, the way you want. Everyone can draw, but you practice, practice and practice.

One little last advice. Don't look at others so much what they make. Be happy with your skills untill now, make a game with these skills, and get some comments on it. Set a goal for yourself that your next game will look better, because you aren't from the day on the other suddenly a great artist. It requires patients, practice and devotion.

I hope this will help you a bit, and I look forward seeing some art from you!

General Discussion / Re:most important book?
Mon 18/08/2003 14:23:32
Yes, The Bible is the most important book for me, and also lots of others in this world.
Also is the bible the most sold, translated, and read book all over the world! ;)

As a second opinion I say the cookbook is pretty handy, for people like me that can't cook! Cooking a matter of surviving!

to Netgraph : no, it's not sticking actually out... it's kinda only sticking out on the roof. In the picture below you see that it does not need any pilar

I have fixed the blackoutline, and the rooftexture, maybee this looks better to you :

I've been busy this day, to make the large house of the professor, and I finally finished it. I'm pretty happy with the result, though it's a bit to wacky colours ;)  I'm going to make the game a bit like Norman Cooks, with these 3D backgrounds and a character on the foreground. I haven't yet made any of the characters, but here is the first background 640x400.

I made the wardrobe in 3dmax, and all my other objects too. But I arrange them in Bryce, because I started out with that program when I was new to 3D, and I'm simply still using it ;) So to answer your question, the light source is done in Bryce
#1153
something like this ginnyw?

#1154
I worked on this wardrobe for about four hours, and I'm pretty happy with the result! Do you think it's good like this, or should it have more magical feeling, or another texture?

#1155
Well I saw the movie the lion the witch and the wardrobe already, and I have the cartoonmovie from 1992. Thats a really cool cartoonmovie, and because the lion, witch and wardrobe has such a good meaning behind it (christian) and I also loved it alot I decided to make a game of it. Though this picture is just testing, because I need to figure out what kinda drawing style im going to use. I could Also choose for 3D rendered pictures, tell me your opinion on this one!

Also just about the picture above... yes I know the lights are bad, and there aren't any shadows! ;)

PS: I spelled adventure wrong ;) ooops ;D

I vote for wanderlady! Great portal! I love it!!

*hmm am I too late?*

hmm I was about 10 years old when KQ7 came out on the market, and I was really excited I can remember! I played the game for some time, ofcourse I didn't came any far, but I was amazed about the graphics, and I did love KQ7. You can't really place the style in the versions before 7, but still, It had some very good puzzles. (still never played it out... pretty hard game!)

Critics' Lounge / Narnia Background, need c&c!
Sat 16/08/2003 22:04:48
For I almost finished Sam&Moos, I figured to start on a new project. I'm working on this with a friend of mine, and it's called Narnia Adventure (Based on the book Lion, Witch and the wardrope" by c.s. lewis.

I made this first test background in a hour... and I need some advice on how to improve this. I wanted to draw the game with the tablet, though im not really good at it yet ;) But Could you give me some advice on how to make this picture look better, and maybee rearrange some things?! Thanks in advance!

ps : It's made in Photoshop, and dont mind about the snow at the foreground, its just there to give an idea of snowing... im going to use the snow/rain plugin ;)

#1159
Yes it sure is, but still, there ain't much people that made this game for PC. bytheway.. did you notice that you can click on both sides of the picture, to find the spots? ;)
#1160
Well, I found this game on an arcadecast, in a coffeeshop, with such an touchscreen. It costed 50 eurocents to play, and you had to point with your finger on the screen the differences. So I really loved that game, and it cost me 20 euro that evening, and more in the near future, untill I thought that I could make myself such an game ;) That's the reason why ;)
