Hi there. I just finished my very first tutorial ever. This tutorial is about creating a (wacky) room with the 3D application Bryce5. I made this tutorial for people that want to use bryce for creating nice backgrounds/objects for their games, but can't affort an expensive program, or just don't understand the 3D modelling. In this tutorial I'll show you, that you can easily make something nice.

The tutorial is devided into 3 Chapters.
you can find the tutorial at my solidus software website, or just click the links below to the chapters.

Chapter 1 - Setting up the room walls
Chapter 2 - Symmetric Modelling
Chapter 3 - Adding more objects

I hope you like my tutorial, and that you find it useful!
Here is a picture of the endresult of the tutorial :

Critics' Lounge / Re:Charcter views on paint?

You could try using the freeware painting program The Gimp. The url is http://www.gimp.org . The program is very similar to Photoshop, and it has some nifty options. You can also work with layers, and shading should be able too. The Gimp was originally made as the standard drawing program for Linux, but they have made also a windows version of it.

About the walking animation... I suggest, post the animation you have made in critics lounge, to show them, so other people can give you advice on how to improve it. I myself don't know much about animating. The longest character animation I have done was 3 frames, so I should learn it too ;)

To tell you all the truth... I'm really crying here behind my pc. I can't blame the bad past of my youth for this, because I'm responsible for my own actions, but I always had to prove myself that I could do something good, but everything always went wrong. So with this competition, I thought it was a way to show that I'm sooo good at programming and things, and that I do am good at something, but I only feel sad about what happened. I have acted really like asz on IRC lately, where I got banned, I said some things to others I didn't ment... I made apologizes... I'm posting too much, and now I'm cheating at a competition that is just there for fun... and I feel like I now really damaged the trust.

I don't feel like apologizing anymore, because it seems to be only a word of my side, so what I'm going to do is just say nothing, and have regret of everything, and I think you'll be all mad at me, so I'm leaving for at least some time and I'll probably come back later, probably to announce another game... but I really must say that I hate myself for this.

All I actually tried was to be someone nice to all and a helping person, but it turns out I'm screwing everything up. I actually don't even know anymore what you think of me, I guess you just think I'm a screwed up nerd... or maybee I'm thinking that I'm that... so I think it becomes time to leave the forum for a while and just say goodbye... and I'll see if my game get's disqualified or not. I did cheated...so it should be, though I really hope that that won't happen.

I don't know what to say anymore, so I'll just stop now, because im pretty sad and disappointed in myself. They say shit happens... but it just seems like I'm too deep in the shit that I can't seem to manage to get out of it.

Finally I am going to say sorry to all, and I hope I did something good for someone... and I hope you won't stay mad at me.

Thanks timosity, I got it working for one room, but now I need to have it in the whole game, like zelda you know!... can someone plz help me on how to make this in the global script?
#907
Yes! That would very cool. Maybee you should only take the winning entry's?
#908
that's really weird ... ok here are the things I have... the MAP, the KNIFE, THE SPEAR.  I really think this is weird, because you should be able to walk to the left and then enter the yeti. :s I know that it works on my computer. :s It's really weird, because I tested it to a friend of mine, through msn, and he DID just finish it, without problems.

About that bug... I'm going to fix that soon.

In case you really can't get to the final room, light up the url below, and view a screenshot of the yeti, I made a minute ago just playing the game.

High resolution, for playing games, and low resolution for making games.

I like hi-resolution because I think graphics are pretty important to the adventure, and in highresolution they are most often more beautifull and detailed.
When I talk about making games, I prefer low resolution because 1. It takes less time. 2. it takes less time and 3. it takes less time ;)

Question : If you'd reincarnate after you death as an animal, what kinda animal would you like to be?
#910
I played the game myself again from the beginning, and downloaded the game, but I CAN come to the Yeti. If you have the map and the spear you should be able to come to the yeti

The only thing I can think of is that you have downloaded an earlier verison with this bug in it, that you can't enter. So I'd say to enter the Yeti download the game again!

And I say it one more time, don't forget to save at that point to view both endings ;)

I hope it will work when you've downloaded the game again!

I don't know if it's an underdog adventure, because in my eyes it's one of the best ever, but I'd say Jack Orlando from Topware, now published by jowood. That game is really neat... and I'd love to see a sequel.

Question : Can you live without a computer? Explain why, or why not.
#912
just one question, is DG gay? Because of all the gay pictures, or is it just making fun?? I'm making myself also an entry... I'll upload it tomorrow...

For my new game, I want to make something in the way like in Zelda, that you have a moneybag, besides your inventory, with a number besides it, wich shows how much coins you have. It's for me still pretty misty about the GUI's so I actually don't know if this should be at beginners forum.

But so I want to show how much coins I have, I guess by showing a global value, but how do I make this?
#914
You have to set a global message. In the global message tab, write for example at #500 : "It's a key a found under the doormat!"

Then you go to the inventory tab. Select the key in this case, or whatever object should be for that message, and then click interaction. And put under the look at inventory item, the display message action.

In the display message screen set click change, and set the number to 500, wich refers to your global message.

Remember : From the number 500 on are the global messages, and from 0-499 are normal room messages.

This should work. Good luck!

well.. I store everything as a backup. I have 170MB  on pictures I made in my documents, and all sounds and music I store ofcourse too. It's really a good idea to backup them. I have made some backups cd's with only my own graphics and sounds... and some other things.

first of all... I worked for more than 2 days on this MIDI,  specially made for this game, so NO sorry, im not going to change it. I like it, and I can't really make a song that EVERYONE likes.

second here is what you still need to do :

Spoiler

look at your own plate in your own house on the table, and you recieve the fish.
goto the professor and give the fish to the professor. The professor will be thankful and gives you a map in return. Once you have the spear and the map you can meet the yeti.
Just a hint : save your game when you meet with the yeti, because there are 2 different endings, depending on what you do.

First of all it seems like some nice graphics.

But 800x600 is a bit too high resolution. You've started this so you should really finish it, but 800x600 works just pretty slow on alot of computers, and 600x480 is big enough.

Second some things about the graphics. Try removing the white dots around the player character. That's much nicer!

Also try making your own cursor's because the standard black/white cursors are abit small for this resolution and also just do not fit the other colours. I say... make some blue or cursors and when over a hotspot, make then green, if you can do that.

GL with your game!

I don't know if you are interested in it, but I would like to let you know, that I have finally finished the work on my site, to rearrange it, and update it. You can now view easily wich games i've made, and wich are coming.

You can also find some of my 3D-art, and in the near future, there will come some tutorials that I'm making on my website, that are related with adventuregame-creation.

Furthermore there will come alot of free spritepacks, GUI's and midi's I'm making. I hope you will like them all, and I hope I can add through this something to the community.

Yes, the talking colour is in my opinion ok!

I am about to make some tutorials to help some of the community improve their drawing. There are already alot of tutorials about photoshop, psp, mspaint... and 3dmax... but I wondered if there are any more people out there like me using Bryce5? I think it's a very good 3D program and it's cheap.. only $100 ... so is anyone looking forward on learning how to make good backgrounds in Bryce for adventure games??

I was planning on making the first tutorial about "how to make a wacky room with bryce5?". Here is an example of the endresult of the first tutorial :

So please tell me if you own bryce5 or ;) and if you are personally interested in this?! The tutorials will be hosted on my new website, wich I'm right now creating.
