Just wanna say how super proud I am of Sox. He's the artist and I'm the writer. He has worked so hard, churning out artwork like a pencil wielding machine! It has been an amazing experience so far for us to take part in MAGS, and it's really helped us learn a lot for the full length titles we have in the pipeline.

I am really looking forward to seeing the other entries and most importantly playing them! :) ;-D

Is it against the rules for two people to work on one project? My friend and I work on our games together, he's the artist, I'm the writer and we both code. Could one of us submit a game we both worked on? We just want to be completely sure we aren't breaking the rules as we are quite new to the AGS community.

Yes, I think because sites like kickstarter originate from the US and have a stronger US following we get used to paying for things in $ more often than not. I have backed US projects and it always took payment through Amazon. It is funny though because all it does is take the equivalent in £ out of the account, it doesnt magically turn your account into $ or anything, but some people seem to think danger is afoot because "Oh noes! Money symbols that are not on my money!!!!" Also with Ebay UK anything we buy from China/Hong Kong sellers is always in USD so I imagine we are more acclimatised to paying for items in American currency.

But yes, hopefully with a better payment format for american backers it will take off next time. They got some amazing press coverage in the UK so it would be a shame for it to fizzle out.

That was very helpful! Thank you all. Much appreciated!

Well they did say they hope to come back when they have the capability to support US payments, as apparently that was a huge issue for them. They seem to be regrouping and wanting to try again when they have got a bit more game play to show us and have taken on board much of the feedback they've received.

I'm with you though, really hope they find a way to get it released.

Hi Guys

Working on our first training game and really struggling with the left click, right click interface. We have combed the old posts but found all the links to a template from 2004 to be broken. No other posts contained code we could get to work for us. We basically want to be able to walk and interact with hotspots using the left mouse button, and look at hotspots with the right.

This is the code we are using:

function on_mouse_click(MouseButton button) {
  if (button == eMouseLeft) ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, eModeWalkto);

  else if (button == eMouseRight) ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, eModeLookat);
  }

Any suggestions on how we can make this work? Or a working link to the original template?

Thanks for your help

Myinah

I backed it in the early stages. I think it looks like a great game and my reasons for backing games are always purely because I want to see that game get made. Nothing more, nothing less. Screw fancy art prints, screw credits, I just want to see a beautiful game come to fruition and get the chance to play it  :-D

Really hope this one gets backed!

Thank you that is all really helpful advice. I am going to write a short game to create to practice the programming and show I can complete a project. Hopefully I can find or create some reasonable art for it so it doesn't look too terrible lol  :)

Hi Guys

I'm new to AGS but have written a full video game script that I want to get on and make, but I'm not 100% sure where to begin. Ideally I want the game to be commercial and professional looking so that I can build up a portfolio of work and one day sell the games I write. I have had some success with creative copy work in the past and I'm hoping that my puzzles will good enough that I can make some sort of career out of this. Of course plenty of us are inspired by independent studios that get themselves up and running and I guess this is my ultimate goal. Maybe it sounds silly, but I can only work from home because of my health and this is what I want to be doing really. I figure if I aim as high as I can I'll at least get close to where I want to be and so I'm starting from the bottom now of the ladder now :smiley:

I did have a great artist ready to work on the game with me but they have now had to drop out due to their increasing work load and family commitments. Now I'm in the position where, like many others, I want to get a talented artist on board (someone with similar goals and who believes in the project), but because I haven't proven myself yet by making a game of course I can't expect people to automatically take me seriously.

What would those of you who are experienced do in my position? Would you make the game with programmer art and then put up a recruitment ad? If so would you make a demo or a full game? Will a demo be enough? My game will be a full length one, the script isn't short by any means.

Of course I would love to just hire an artist, but its not going to be financially possible for me at this time. I know artists are few and far between but to any artists reading, what inspires you to work on a project?

I hope I posted this is the right section and I look forward to hearing some advice  :-D

Hi AGS Community

I'm Myinah, a 25 year old lass from the good old UK. I have been lurking for a while and have enjoyed seeing many games come to fruition over the years. I have written a complete script now myself and hope to learn the magical programming ways and make the game myself.

Great to be a part of the community at last. I look forward to getting to know people and hopefully working on projects together.

:)
