I love everything so far! So excited to play these. Retro wolf your character looks as though he may have eaten a platter of radioactive seafood, and I like it!
#62
I think he counts! He's not human and he's terrifying so let's say yes.
#63
Ok thank you for clarifying. If we can allow adaptations then we will allow it! Can't wait to see the lovecraft entry :-D
#64
Well we dont have a problem with it, but MAGS rules have an implication that things be created from scratch and starting with a pre existing story was something we weren't sure on as the rules say it should all be new. That story isn't new. Where does one draw the line? Maybe Atelier could clarify if an adaptation is ok. It's a tough judgement call and not one we wish to make. We just set the theme rules! We are a neutral party in this.

That's a tough one. We don't want to say no, but it feels like if you are taking a fully crafted, existing story and just adding puzzles it's probably not quite in the spirit of MAGS. Other entrants will spend time writing their original story concepts so we're not sure. If no one else entering minds then we don't really have an issue as we just want fun monster games to play and your source material sounds like it will be really excellent. That being said MAGS is supposed to be made from scratch and it may be pushing it a bit more than just a little rule bend.

What do you think Atelier and entrants?

I think to clarify we had no problem with original adaptations that add something totally new to pre existing legends. More that you might borrow an existing monster rather than recreate the odyssey as an adventure game. I don't really take issue with you using a character or an idea from a pre existing story as long as you are creating something new and original with it, rather that totally recreating a pre existing work. Does that make sense? Sox do you have any thoughts?

I can probably help out

Congratulations to the top three! Loved reading these!

Best Character: Sane Co and Sinitrena - You are giving me nam like flashbacks to my worst OKcupid experiences. Very inept and scarily true to life.
Best Use of the Language of Love: Sinitrena for all that deliberately terrible grammar. I imagine it was painful to write. You truly suffered for your art.
Best Hook: Sane Co - who doesn't want to be the muse to a genuis like Uncle Sane.
Best Social Commentary: Sane Co - The oblivious, entitled, "im a nice guy" neck beardy, racist reminds me of easily at least 30% of my OKcupid messages. It is disturbingly true to life in a way that makes me wince.
Best Overall: Sane Co for much of what I stated above. Sinitrena a close second.

That is not a bug. You have to solve a dialog puzzle to exit the conversation :-D

This is a good day for me I was number 7! I'm shocked I won as everyone did such an awesome job! Not surprised it was so close!

Thanks for the votes. I'm really happy my keeping it in the family theme was well received ;)

Thank you so much for voting for us! It was a really amazing month and we were so impressed with the work everyone put in! I felt terrible for most of MAGS, as I contracted the Norovirus, so this is really awesome and makes the days I stared at the computer screen blankly feeling like crap wondering why I let Sox talk me into this again all worth it lol.

But seriously thank you. It means a lot ;-D

Nice subject! Here is my entry to kick things off:

Main Protagonist's Craigslist Drafts

Tired of always having to rescue my girlfriend. Looking for strong, independent woman to partner me in life. Must be solvent, have own weapons and enjoy the occasional performance enhancing drug. Bonus points if you are tsundere, sarcastic, or sassy and look like me wearing false eyelashes, lipstick and a pink bow.

Would like to meet genetic cloning specialist to discuss a project of a personal nature. When replying please put "Clones 4 U" in the subject line so I know you are genuine.

Well as I like both stories so much and everyone seems to like the idea of joint winners I declare Baron and Sinitrena both winners! Congratulations and I look forward to your joint theme!

Gobbies have similar but slightly different rules than Gremlins. We don't like to restrict when they can eat. They have fast metabolisms and are prone to hypoglycaemia! And technically the Gremlin rules are nitpicky too because what is after midnight anyway? That's literally 23 hours and 59 minutes of the day. (laugh)

I really loved the original take on the theme. I like that you did something more grounded in reality. It was like an interactive drama which serves as a reminder that games can be a subtle and nuanced story telling media. I am glad you chose the ending you did and would love to see the additional mechanics you had originally planned to put in with Giles personal development tracked.

As a totally original solo project you have done amazing well! Congratulations!

Great MAGS entry. I liked the detail of the art in the bedroom and really enjoyed the story. As others have said the puzzles need a bit of polish and there were interactions missing but it was an engaging story with nice graphics. Well done :)

This is a crazy good entry for MAGS! There is just so much content and polish I'm very impressed :)

Only minor thing for me was the amount of speech for the tutorial/backstory and as such I missed the whole map thing for a few minutes. I prefer to just dive into a game but I completely understand why it was done in that style though so it's more my problem than yours :)

As Sox said you can skip all the dialogue right from the start. You don't have to ask Rabby a single question if you don't want to. More experienced adventure gamers probably don't need any instruction but any time we have tested our games with people who play games less often they always need a little help so we made it optional :)

I will reiterate Sox's thanks too. The positive feedback makes it worth the several mini breakdowns we had when we realised what we had gotten ourselves into! So glad people have enjoyed it :-D

Yes the colonies tend to double in size when children are present, Captain D. We're not sure why though. More research is needed.

Fantastic stuff there Baron! Well done for the word count victory! And with two entries I declare voting open until Feb 4th.
