I couldn't agree more. "Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth" was very scary in the first third or so, then you get a rifle and realize that the monsters are nothing more than flesh and bone (well, polygons and pixels), and can be killed like anything else. That completely neuters them and their ability to threaten you.

Dead Space was massively disappointing. And it wasn't even good in other respects.
#3
A specific sub-forum would help the events get noticed more easily and reduce the clutter.

Video embedding seems like a good idea. After all, a video is worth a thousand pictures, no?

The author of "It ain't easy" answered my PM to tell me the entry could be erased,a s it was just a short animation.
I nonetheless asked him if he had a copy handy; I'm waiting for his answer.

Lovecraft wrote a "commonplace book" about that very subject, how to write horror. It's also full of basic ideas you could use.

Speaking of AGSA, there is a problem I keep running into. Whenever my search contains an apostrophe, like "king's quest" it always results in "There are no games in the archive with "king's quest" in its title". If I search for "king" alone, the two King's quest games are there.
Why is that?

AGA, now that we've basically fixed all the games which could be more or less easily found online, maybe you should create a new thread (or change this one's first post) with a link in the forum header, as it is now, giving the list of games with broken downloads and explicitly asking players and programmers if they've got a copy?

By pure chance I discovered that Space had no valid URL (it was the old "bicycle.for.slugs", or something). I updated it and realized that the archive available here contains another game, called "Trapped with hell" (although the archive and enclosed folder ae named "Rich Psycho). It barely qualifies as a game and I don't know who did it, but it doesn't appear anywhere else as far as I can tell. So what do we do with that?

I just tried and it seems to work fine for me.

Looks funky. Will play it tonight.
All I got from the download link was an HTML file, actually.

I guess maybe I should ask for permissions to edit too, so I can edit directly when I update AGSA to include any games that are either set as coming soon or not yet added.
These two aren't on AGSA yet:

Speaking of misisng links, I've contacted the authors of the following games, which weren't available anywhere, to see if they still have a copy:
I Need A Wee!
Insta Game: The Strange Planet v1.0
It ain't easy
James bond (this one has been fixed)
Kill Davy Jones (demo)
Kiselyova Unleashed!
Klaus Kerner and the Fate of Atlantis

This one I couldn't find AND I couldn't locate the creator either:
Indy y la Abadia de Effel

or have for example the image uploaders see a message that the a link was reportet as broken and have them confirm this and then mark it as broken without a link.
That seems like a good idea, and one I'd happily help with. If at all possible, we should also try to fix the link.

I'm now done with D and E. All that's left is the ones I listed in my post above.

EDIT: I came across this game, which has a placeholder image. I'm going to replace it with an actual screenshot, but I guess that's something we cant' really deal with efficiently. It's probably not very common anyway.

EDIT2: nevermind, I won't be replacing it, the game doesn't work.

edit: Ah, these are DOS-games, that's why they don't work, you need DOS-box and some additional files for those.
I can edit those two if you like, Narushima?
Please do. I tried running them through DOSBox but I lacked the patience to hunt down the needed files.

I couldn't find the following (most have an AGSA page with link "coming soon"):
Day of School
Deepbright Demo
Deflus Technical Demo
Demonslayer 1
Der verschwundene Husky
Domestic Conspiracy Demo
drugs and aliens
Enter The Story
Ernie's Big Adventure II
Everlight Forest Demo v1.1
Everlot-Demo
D.Jones: Deceased

These I couldn't get to work:
Deepbright Demo
Demonslayer 1

I am currently trying to download and get a screenshot for these (my connection keeps dropping them whenever they're almost done, but I'll get there):
Der verschwundene Husky
Ernie's Big Adventure II

Finally, this one should be deleted, since it's basically simply an ad for a web site. I know one of their games, "Dante's Divine Comedy", has its own page, so they can create pages for each game. Can I delete this?:
Enter The Story

EDIT: for what it's worth, the "buy" link for "Dante's divine comedy" is now wrong on the AGSA, it should be: Buy link on AGSA is wrong, it should be: https://secure.bmtmicro.com/servlets/Orders.ShoppingCart?CID=4751&PRODUCTID=47510004

Quote from: selmiak on Sun 12/05/2013 13:54:20did some D games today, but not all...
Please don't, I'm doing D and E.
#18
I'll take care of D and E today if it's still available
#19
I'm done with the Ms.

  • I couldn't find these:
  • Matt and James Amazing Game For Everyone (candidate for deletion?)
  • Meaning Quest DEMO (candidate for deletion?)
  • Mimis the rat
  • My 40 bullets (v1.1)

As for "Mittens Mystery Extravaganza", the main link is dead, the mirror links to a suspicious download of 7Zip (I didn't try it).

@Narushima - It's okay. You can carry on with M.  But I've got N and O covered. :)
OK, it'll take me a while anyway.
