Thanks for the info. I am planning on learning how the basics of the scripting language works, I figured I would have to, I'm just far from that point right now.

So yeah I was referring to the interaction stuff, so thanks for letting me know the limits. I basically was trying to figure out the best way to display a little introduction text after the main menu and a new game was started. What I was doing was just having the player click anywhere to display text and then click again to display the next message untill the entire paragraph or whatever was finished, then it warped to another room, and might begin gameplay.

I figured I could do this by using sprites and objects if I had to, to change the font, or possibly using the GUI system.

But I guess I probably just need to learn to script an event that uses fonts and set things up cleaner.  But what I eventually am going to want is a programmer to write a movie player to use for cinematics unless AGS has something like that, I havent looked into it yet. I also want to figure out how to use more than 5 frames for an animated background and see if theres anyway to clean up the screen tearing when I use an animated background. Not sure if thats related to my crappy monitor or what. But now I'm starting to rant and will shutup now:)

How can I, or where can I find out about changing the font in the message boxes used for displaying room messages? The only options I can see is "display message as normal text or a character".
#3
Yeah I was using just one graphic for all modes just as a temporary solution. I made a temporary walk cursor for now so I can see it active. I am planning on having most of the standard choices in the end though. But I have a lot more to learn first.
#4
no how do I change cursors? Currently I have one image for all cursor types so this is probably the problem. But how do you cyclethrough or swap cursors?
#5
hehe Actually I noticed that when I was putting these images together. I didnt expect anyone to see that so I didnt bother fixing it. But I did make a similar mask in the walkable section and removed the mask for the hotspot section. Still no movement.

#6
Alright I looked and looked and I can't find why the character won't move anywhere. Am I getting ahead of myself here? In the images attached the character is just a simple blue light and the cursor is clicking away. I would expect the character to move to where the clicking was am I skipping over something? I set up the walkable mask not sure whats left? any guidance would be great.

Also to clarify so far all I have set up is room1 being a title screen. There is an object that is the start button. And the player is hidden in this room. When the start button is clicked its action it go to room 2. This image is room 2. The player (or at least the assigned sprite) is drawing in a place which I havent determined anywhere cause I dont know how to do that yet. But it draws. I would expect it to just move to where I click is that not the case?

I just had this same problem and think its worth noting by default there are 9 cursor types and each uses null image. So make sure the appropriate cursor type is assigned to the desired sprite.

Heres a little more info to help sway your interest or not.

This is a sample from the story board I have started for the Intro/first chapter.

The story basically puts the player in the shoes of being "god".  Your name is Macro, and you talk to yourself too much. The story starts just before "god" gains awareness. The first few puzzles are just teachinig the player the controls and options as they unknowngly create time, gravity, and light. Shortly after, the FSM has manifested as a reaction from your creations. The FSM in this story is a stupid and evil creature with "god-like" powers of creation and control. It zaps you of your throne (so to speak) and strips you of your powers. After draining you, it leaves you in the form of a cloudy dust floating in the cosmos for eternity. The floating dust is hydrogen and this is where the journey begins. You must reclaim what you created in the reality of our universe. The adventure spans over billions of years as you evolve and change forms in search for a means to face the FSM.

Hi. I am looking for someone with experience in working and scripting in AGS. Idealy what I want is someone with experience and easy to work with. I am shooting to make an epic, higher than ever quality adventure stlye game on a professional level but as a hobby and a nostalgic tribute to the great classics like Maniac Mansion, The Dig, Kings Quest, Space Quest, Loom, and Monkey Island . So far I have a rough summary written of the game. A little bit of dialouge and progression planned for the intro. A mock-up title screen, and some generic buttons. Theres a lot in my mind of where I want this thing to go. I forsee production spanning over the course of a year or so (not sure how fast this kind of work will move or if I will get anyone to join the efforts). I have experience in leading a team on successful video game projects before and I know what I'm doing as far as design and art.  But AGS is new to me. Although this style of game is not something I've developed before I am well aware of adventure games and have played many. If interested in more details feel free to ping me and I'll spill it all. I know I havent "proven" my credability on this forum yet but I aim to. I am dedicated and serious about how I spend my time and this is something I am going to do. If you want to be a part of it, then we could have a lot of fun and make a game that kills all other adventure games:)

Heres a mock-up for the title...

alright will start a thread in games progress when I am that far along. Sorry,  not trying to be annoying at all. But I would like to make a suggestion that the forum maybe consider (unless you already have) opening a pre-production section for young projects to be shared. Like story and art concepts not just final game shots.

Actually the games in progress threads requires two in game screens and I'm not that far into the process yet. I am still developing a story and art not putting the game together yet. Why is this so difficult? I just wanted to track and share the progress of this project here with everyone interested.

I'm getting to it, can't make a game in a day, I'm just trying to put some foundation down first.

First thing I'm doing is making some 1st pass buttons to use to be able to put some gui and a Title screen together with. I basically just reffered to the buttons provided for in AGS. These will probably change but its a starting point.

Alright if this is the wrong place to post progress of a game I am building tell me now cause I am unfamliar to all the rules of the forum.

So I want to track the progress and share the developement across the lifetime of the project. Not too secretive here. I've never made an adventure style game or used AGS. But I'm a quick learner. I've scanned over the editor slightly but have a long way to go to get the hang of everything. I'm open to any suggestions or criticisms or questions.

General Discussion / Re: I need help

Allright heres exactly what I want. I have a story somewhat planned out. It is inspired from a real book I am actually writting. I am currently working on story boards. I have layed out a large photshop file to organize the entire story board for scene progression and other various visual elements.

Currently I am not seeking for art help but I am open to it if someone is interested. I am seeking help with the engine and with scripting things. I have been in the game industry for over three years and have released multiple titles on all the platforms from PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox and Xbox360. I have experience leading a team of 7 artists from concepting all the way to shipping the thing. I grew up playing adventure games and would like to make one.

The subject matter/theme and story is pretty cool and fun in my opinion, and I am looking forward to trying to get innovative with some puzzle mechanics or at least the delivery of them.

Here is mockup of a title screen.

I could go in more depth with the story but don't really wanna just post everything right away. I will say the theme puts the player up against, "The Flying Spaghetti Monster"   http://www.venganza.org/

So if theres anyone that is interested in helping me learn the engine and possibly take charge of putting things "in game" and scripting stuff to work, and also wants to possibly contribute to anyother aspects such as sound or writting or whatever I'd like to share more and put together some organization and collaboration.

Hello There. Here is my Noob intro:)

I am Bobby a 26 year old video game art lead at a MumboJumbo in Dallas, TX.
I've worked on the following games:
25 to Life
Sin Episodes : Emergence
unannounced project (was cancelled)
unannounced project (was cancelled)
Brothers in Arms : Hells Highway
Medal of Honor : Airborne
Unannounced project (cooming soon)
Unannounced project (cooming soon)

I grew up playing adventure games. The first I really fell in love with was Loom, and Then Kings Quest 5 and Monkey Island. The Dig was probably my favorite if not Grim Fandango. Anyway I have an idea for one I want to make but I am currently trying to learn how to use this software and it's a pain as I have no experience with scripting or the limitations of the engine. Some help would be nice if anyone is interested in joining me.

I am brand new to this and excited. Can someone point me in the right direction to learn about setting up the front end type screens like the title. How is this accomplished or where can I read about it. I searched the website for tutorials covering that but could'nt find any.
