Yosh! Thanks for your input greenboy. Here's what I've got now:

I'm quite satisfied with how the character's overall look is now but I might add the abdominal highlights like greenboy did in his paintover.
Now about the animation. What do you think? Any comments and critics are welcome, though I'm quite sure I can't add any fancy shadings with my currents skills.

@abstauer
Hey, thanks! I'll study these frames like no tomorrow. Yeah, I'm using graphics gale, it fits me great.

@markbilly
And thanks for letting him use your animations to teach me. :D

 Sorry for making a little hijack but how many phases do you have in your animations (markabilly & abstauber) and what are they? I'm trying to make my character a frontal walkcycle but it's a mess. Your anims look smooth enough for my needs (actually abstauber's anim is way beyond anything I can achieve in years). :)

Here's my latest try:

I must say I'm quite proud of it. It's by far the best piece I've ever done. What do you think? More things to fix?

@Lad
Good points there, especially the one according the shoulders. If I've understod them correctly most of them are integrated in the redraw by Brentimous. I'll do as you suggested and will concetrate on the frontal view now on.

@Brentimous
Holy moly, your redraw is pure awesome! It's so close to what I wanted that I'm stunned. So you added outlines, which really made a big diffrence I see. And some antializing was done too on the outlines (that's what you call it, right?).

There are some questions about the redraw though.

a) Why is inner arm (begins from the arm pit) coloured with a lighter shade? I would asume the elbow's would be lighter if the light comes above the object? The arms still look nice, that's why I asked.

b) How do you choose the colors for the contrasts or do you have any technique for that? Do you alter just one attribute from the HSL-sliders or do you play with all of them?

@Monsieur

Yeah, the guy I'm looking for is one in between the frontal and side views, which is what the paintover seems to be. :)

Okay, here's the fixed versions. I move the beltline up and made the shoes a little smaller. Plus buffed up the pecs.

What kind of game would this be (serious, horror, comedy etc.)? What characters is this (who is he, a bit of description)?

Well the idea of the game is still a little abstact in my mind propably will develop alot further after I've done this character (it somehow always raises my motivation to finish a project when I get one part completely ready). The game will be a detective story from the view of a regular guy (meaning he's not a police, a junkie, a thief or a special agent etc.).  The athmosphere will be somewhat serious, Indy is the closest resemblance I can think of.

Quote- if you're going for low-res, you should use mor contrast, I don't think this is bad, but just as general warning, like in the face area
Yeah, well contrast is something I'm still learning. I'm having a little difficulties choosing colors that are dark/light enough compared with the base color but still maintain the same "feeling".
Quote- about the feet - they look a bit too big and not really sure if his sock should be showing, do you see people walk with their socks showing?
I was wondering the same thing about the feet and I think you're right they're too big. But when I comes to socks, there are people that use that kind of style too, though I'm not sure yet if I'll keep it that way.
Quote- about his legs - I'd movethe belt up at least 3 px and thus shortn the torso, but give more lenght to the legs
So you think the torso is a bit too long too? I'll just change the ratio between legs and torso but keep the overall lenght the same? (thus the arms lenght will also stay the same)

Here's what I've come up to:
1x 3x

What do you think? I bet there are many places to improve and I'd like to know which ones. I seem to have the hardest time making the feet but I think I'm on the right tracks already.

I sure like what you did with the alley on the left, goldfish. I'm quite sure that I'll add it in my scene. I'll try to update as soon as possible, which can be after a while; being a conscript in the army doesn't exactly give you enourmous time to spend in the civil world.  :-\

I downloaded GIMP and tried to add RGB noise on the big surfaces to tear the plainess away abit (I saw someone do it on his background and it looked nice). Here's what I got:

What do you think? Is it a good idea?

Thank you for your replies, here's a edit of the orginal image:

Now it's already a little more content. I must check that radial lighting thing. The thing you did there isn't quite what I'm looking for but maybe if it's used with an extremely soft touch...

Nice one! Thank you. I'll be waiting for more of these and hopefully one day I'll see the compositions and lightings with the same eyes as you guys do.

As you can propably see the background is still under construction but it's already obvious that it's too plain and a bit too happy/colourful for my intentions. I'm not looking for a filmnoir type of dark atmosphere but a little more realistic aproach than the current candyland scheme. But as I'm kinda new to these things I'd like to hear your advice how to accomplish my goals.

Fantastic game! Can't wait to get the next one.

Sweet! But I do need to get an orginal txt-file from the author to start, right?

It could be fun to try translating a game on finnish. :D Is translating easy, I mean AGS-wise?

Funny :) but makes me feel bad... :(
