@TBI

That's a good idea. That way the intention is clear.

And I think if you put up your pictures with creative commons you understand that it can be used with any kinds of works of art?

I have to see if there is any workaround. I did manage to make the collage-face and it's pretty good but applying that face to different pictures with different people proved to be rather difficult. If I can't find a workaround I'm going with the disclaimer.

Purchasing photos could be one alternative, if I can find the right kinds.

Dang. It just creates a whole lot of hassle. A might just alter the photo so much that it can't be recognized from the original (like tattoo and some morphing to face). I guess then if there isn't a real name or 1:1 recognition I should be in the clear?

Thanks for the replies guys, btw.

EDIT: I'm thinking I'm going to do a collage-type of face of different faces from creative commons material. That way nobody is referenced directly and can't get mad.

Yeah this is what I suspected, but I wanted to have confirmation. Thanks for the reply!  :)

Hi everybody!

I just had a total brain fart and I'd like to get some advice on this.

If you have creative commons pictures of a person and you'd like to use these pictures to make "evidence" (like pictures and footage) of a murderer in a game, is there any way for this to be illegal?

The game is set up so that it's accompanied with fake websites and it feels like digging up real information on a real person, but it's still a game.

What about if you buy commercial pictures of people and use them?

Yeah the latest isn't good, it's too blurry and the blur is a weird direction blur. If you do a blur, you should do a subtle lens blur to give the feel of an actual camera and space difference. The totally crisp one isn't bad, but I think it could be better. It competes too much with the characters, in my opinion.

Good progression! Gripes: The background is too detailed in relation to the characters. Here's a quick mockup:

And I don't know about the "looking towards the user". I think it's kinda weird. But that's just me.

Immediate reaction was britney here too, so good job! Maybe do the nose over a bit. It's a little off. Here's a quick reference:

From a short glance some feelings I had:

- I really like it!  :)
- Color scheme is good. Only thing worth more testing would be maybe to bring the light blue down from links just a bit to blend in more but still be easily detectable.
- Maybe swap the "Keep updated" and "See more posts" -boxes? Would seem more natural to me.
- If you want more space there for news text you could make the boxes on the right a little bit smaller.
- The "haze" effect in the main picture is a little bit overwhelming for my taste. Maybe take it down a notch.
- Overall very nice! I'd surely visit!

I'm on a crappy monitor right now so the color things may be off.  :)

Kudos for the nice design!

The overall feel is much better! Good job!

I don't know if it's my monitor, but I see it as way oversaturated. Other than that there's some funkiness still going on with that arm. The pose isn't that natural. I haven't done that much pixelstuff so you can ignore my sayings right off the bat. But take a look at this desaturated pic if this would be the way to go for colorwise or something in between.

I'm pretty sure it was a Mickey Mouse spacetime-continuum.

Hi guys!

If you have sparetime, could you give some feedback on my portfolio website?

Mainly I'd like to know anything that sticks out in a strongly negative way or if there is some weird things going on on your browser. I'm so used to it by now that I'm probably pretty much blind to every mistake there is. Of course positive comments are not frowned upon either. In return I'll buy you a beer if you are in Tampere, Finland area and also I will answer any questions you might have on how I did something on the site.  :)

so here it is: www.jounimettala.com

EDIT: Nobody?

I cannot hear a single difference between them honestly.
Maybe time for a new pair of speakers?  :D

I thought this could come in handy for all of us. I'm in the middle of applying for a new job and I've been struggling to find a good source on how to apply for a new job in this new competitive world.

Of course situations may vary from country to other but I think we should have one thread where we could exchange experiences and everything related from "Can I use pencil?" to "Do they want my picture in the application?".

I would like to know that should you use graphical elements ever on your application if you're trying for advertising / what about other venues of work? Is it important to have cover letter and whatnots in a general job application you send on your own interest to the company? Ppl can always share their DO's and DO NOT's if they so choose.

Okay as there are no more entries coming to this competition the jury went on to their chambers and came back with a decision.

The winner of remix comp of the year 2009 is.... *drumroll*

djres

Thanks for the nice entry! :)

Okay the time is almost up if we go by the standard time so hurry up. If nobody asks for continuation for the next two hours I'll close this after midnight.

Really nice start for the comp. Just listened to it and it definitely has some strong textures there. The song has a definite wibe of the windchimes as the name implies. There's a little bit of artifacting but it just adds to the general feel of the song. You set the bar really high for the rest of 'em! Good job djres!  :)

Edit: Had time for more notes and a 2nd listen:

The first moments after the beautiful and delicate intro are a bit clunky because the listener doesn't know what he's hearing but then after midpoint the ambient pads and noise take the piece off somewhere magical and the song comes together as a very nice movie piece. Just think of a dramatic (in a sad way) scene and put this in the background.

Is there a full mp3 for tune number 1? I love how it sounds and would like to hear the full song :)

Unfortunately there's isn't anymore to that tune. I was already late with the competition as it was so I didn't have time to make full songs. Maybe you'll hear the finished version before 28th from some competitor or better yet make your own version like zabnat suggested.   ;)
