My eye! the game? Nope.

If that was the title, it'd have been very appropriate.

@eri0o
Are you using some sort of formatters or code prettifiers for the AGS editor? If not, man, you are well disciplined and clean when it comes to writing code. I was actually going to make feature request for it, because the lack of formatting drives me nuts sometimes, but then I saw your post and thought I'd ask first.

For a second, I thought that there is a new rule to present two images: the background itself and with a character in it :)

Nicely done everybody, I wish I could draw like you!

Yesterday was great fun. It's been quite a long time since I danced at a party, so I really enjoyed myself. Also, good manners of the attendees in a form of lack of any slaps are very much appreciated. Although, who knows... maybe a slap or two would have brought AGS more popularity among the general public.

But seriously, it was fun. Massive thanks to everyone involved in the community for creating, maintaining and updating the client, as well as to those organising and directing the ceremony :)

And congrats to all the winners!

What a lovely demo! I really liked the puzzles, because they never held me back for too long, as well as the animations. It was nice to see a dedicated animation to each action. I agree with everyone above sensing The Flight of the Amazon Queen or Indiana Jones vibes. Comparing to other AGS games I’ve played recently (only a couple, really) the voice acting was a nice addition. Also, I loved Miguel :D

Two things:
Spoiler

- I downloaded the game today from itch.io, and there was a warning txt file saying: Script : (room:3)[R 30] Wait() was used in Player Enters Screen - use Enters Screen After Fadein instead

- I got confused by one thing. When Harrison talks to Miguel, Miguel hints at the fact that they journey into the jungle took a full day. However, when being confronted by the Professor, it is shown that Miguel and the Doc are already tied up and kept at something that looked like a deck of a ship. Which suggested that the thugs already made their way back to the shore with the captives. I am guessing there might be other explanations for it, but I thought some may find it inconsistent. Sorry, if I am being too picky, but I just thought I’d share my thoughts. Don’t get me wrong, though, this was an awesome demo :)

All game ideas seem to have been taken already  :~(

Yeah, I know what you mean. But this also reminds of all the horror games, both commercial and hobby ones, that are being released every day. There are literally thousands of them, and to me they all look pretty much the same. The story/dialogues often make little to no sense, whatsoever, and in all of them you walk about some dark areas with a flashlight that needs to be charged every now and again. Having watched dozens of them, I couldn’t believe how similar they are. But then despite all that, people still love them and want to play them. I think that what am trying to say is every time I dwell too long on the fact that I can’t come up with anything original, I think of the horror games. Maybe if the formula is right, it's ok to stick to it.

Dunno what strange stuff happened here, but anyone played 2? I've not heard good things about it...

I am guessing you might have seen this article already: https://adventuregamers.com/articles/view/beyond-a-steel-sky, but those guys rated it quite high. But I agree that I haven't seen anyone talking about it since the release.

Sorry, I didn't quite get if playing the audio clip on its own works for you?
If not, could you check how long is the clip? Is it shorter than one second by any chance?

Thanks for taking the time to record the video :) It feels great to see one's own produce in a YouTube video.

As for the lock puzzle:
Spoiler

I think the game gets slightly easier with the colour blind mode on. The main difference is that the lamps become interactive, as opposed to the default setting. I had to do it this way, because I needed Timur to name the colour of the lamp. I guess interactive lamps would draw more attention or suggest they are useful in some way.
Other difference is when the safe GUI is on, the colours are named as well. Although, I doubt this change makes it easier.

Big big congratulations to OneDollar :)

As for the voting turnout, I can't really say much. Correct me if I am wrong, but my guess is this community is mainly made of  30+year-olds with lots of personal stuff going on. I am one of those people and I simply have little time to play games anymore (I have barely found the time to code the game over nights). I've downloaded all December MAGS entries but not played them yet... Which means I didn't vote because I would not know what to vote for. I guess others may be interested in MAGS games but play them in their own time, too, and for this reason they didn't cast a vote? Which would suggest that they are interested in the games but simply have no time to play them before the deadline. I know that it's not obligatory to play them all to cast a vote (or am I wrong?), but I personally wouldn't like to vote without checking all entries.

Are MAGS competitions in any way 'advertised' on AGS Discord channel? Maybe this could drum up more interest? Just a thought :)

I think this is a great idea. This would make my life way easier, because every single time I want to check how (or if) a variable changes I need to create a gui, add a label and then update it's text all the time. Provided it's a string, if it's float or int I have to parse it and so on and so on. So yeah, having a simple console logging function would be great.

Thank you both for those nice words.

For most of the time, we've been family-friendly, but who knows what the future will bring...  :)

Last year I didn't submit Urban Witch Story for best music/sound, precisely of what you mention. I was the first one surprised that Urban Witch won that undeserved award. I guess the people who voted were unaware that the music was in the public domain.

If I recall correctly, when receiving the award last year, you did say that the music wasn't composed by yourself, to which one of the hosts (can't remember who) said that the selection/choice of music for your game still counts. I added music/sound category to my game in the FYC thread because of this. Is this not the case? If not, I will remove it : )

For your consideration

Absurdistan
by Pogwizd

Absurdistan is a partially text-based, side-scrolling adventure game featuring simplistic graphics.

You play as Leszek, a young Absurdani, who, just like his family, is fed up with the regime imposed by the Party. Despite the seemingly gloomy setting, the game doesn't intend to get you down, as its main goal is to poke fun at many absurdities of the daily life in a totalitarian-communist state.

The game features a whole variety of puzzles, which, unlike the state of Absurdistan, do make sense. Some of them may even require you to grab something to write and figure them out in real life.

Thanks guys - the fact you enjoyed it is really encouraging.

As for the graphics and animations, I can't take much credit, because it was my wife who's made them. Not being particularly into pixel-art, out of blue she asked about December's MAGS theme and said she wanted to do it. Personally, I was quite surprised how good (I think) the game looks, given the short amount of time and her lack of experience in pixel-art.

That's not a problem.

Yup, it's fine now. Thanks!

After a brief conversation with one of the forum users, I have decided to add a Colour Blind Mode to the game, which makes certain parts of the game more accessible. If you want to enable it, just go to the Settings after the intro finishes.

@newwavesburritos
Thanks! I hope you enjoy it. I was actually thinking about getting in touch and asking you if you would be willing to proofread it, but there was so little time I decided not to bother you.

@heltenjon
Thanks for playing the game. I think the puzzles are relatively easy - didn't have much time to come up with anything elaborate.
