HORROR HOTEL - THE UNSOLVED CASE

The unsolved case... a family disappears in Warsaw Hotel. One witness says that no one stayed on that floor besides that family, and they never checked out. Detective Dave Morrison struggles to figure it out, and on the way, he just might learn that the hotel isn't what it seems...

Cliche? I hope not. This isn't a copycat of Trilby's Notes my friend, no.

NEW SCREENIES:

Where is this? You'll have to find out!

Strange room. You'll have to uncover it's mysteries...

Is this for real? Your gonna have to find out.

UPDATE 12/23/06 - 3 new rooms and some extended scripting (snow, footprints.) Im not sure if it is a good idea, but I have added DEATHS. Yes you can now die in this game, in a variety of ways  :D. Im also in the process of writing the endings out and tweaking the story a bit. I wish I could give this as my christmas present but it looks like it won't be done in time  :). Well Merry Christmas to all and have a happy new year!

UPDATE 10/05/06 - Almost finished! Re-doing some backgrounds because of bad compatibility (walk behinds and character scaling.) Music is coming along pretty slowly. Well, it'll be done when it's done!

UPDATE 9/20/06 - So far so good, characters are almost finished! Backgrounds are a little short for now because I have been focusing on sprites for 10 days...

But the project is coming along. Still no release date, but shouldn't be too long.

UPDATE 9/10/06 - I announce this with much sadness but the project is going to be on delay for a little time. I have been really busy in school. But heres some good news:

New Backgrounds, Characters, and Music!!!

UPDATE 9/5/06 - Heres the new main character:

2X:

I used Prog's Roger for a reference. I hope that isn't a problem.  :)

And the game may take longer to complete now as I have started school again. Hopefully I can finish this one!

UPDATE 9/2/06 - 2 new rooms and more puzzles. Nothing for a character yet, that should be done soon (I hate drawing sprites :(.) Fixed the Lighter bug, as well as two new ones that came around during testing.

I was thinking that maybe to enhance the AGS lighting features that for every region, there can be a button you can check called Gradual Tinting/Lighting. Clicking this would show 3 boxes:

Red =
  • to [255]
    Green =
  • to [255]
    Blue =
  • to [255]

    And of course 255 being the limit, it would be changeable. And for lighting you could have another checkable box, and that would open two boxes:

    Min [-100] to Max [100]
    OR
    Min
  • to Max [200]

    Wouldn't something like this be better instead of using 3 to 4 regions for gradual lighting/tinting?

When I draw out hotspots 7 and 8 they don't show up as their original colors, instead, they are bright red colors. It doesnt bother me, but I just wanted to know if it was a possible bug or something. Has anyone noticed this?

Now I have another problem, concerning inventory. On GUI STATUSLINE I also have inventory. There are five boxes, and I would like only one item to be displayed in each. I made 5 different inventory windows, but whenever I pick up something in the game, the same items go into the first box. This is the first time I have tried to actually create inventory as I usually use the default GUI to do that.

Ok I have a GUI with two arrows, an up arrow, and a down arrow. When the player clicks on the up arrow, the music gets loud by one, and the down arrow turns the music down by one. I tried to use an int to do this:

int music = SetMusicMasterVolume(); //then
if (button==2){
music++;
}

but of course that doesn't work.  Is there a different way to do this?

General Discussion / Updating Driver
Wed 23/08/2006 14:19:41
I have an Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller chipset and I want to update it. I went to Intel and downloaded v14.17 of this driver, but when I go to my hardware tab in the Properties tab of my controller, it reads 6.14.10.4396. Its strange b/c I'm not sure if it is installed correctly, but I get the feeling it is b/c the Intel Tray Icon is present. The link to the page where the updates are is HERE. It isn't really a problem, but I just want to make sure, b/c this isn't really an area I have explored before.

Ok. What I have is a car. It will be driving through the night. I want it to be able to light up the road. I have considered using the flashlight plug-in but I don't think it would work well enough. So thats why I have considered overlays. Can it be done with overlays? Thanks.

I used a small tutorial by Krysis to do this car. The version on the right was just to see if I could color it better as if it were driving through the dark. I think I nailed it pretty good but anyway how did I do?

General Discussion / Plane Terrorists
Fri 11/08/2006 02:40:03
Did anyone hear about the terrorists they caught on the planes in London? They were carrying disassembled bombs aboard so they could put them together. They also said that there was a tape made for the suicide bombers for after they bombed. Has anyone heard about this?

Thats the question. I have made up various types of posters. I myself am a Cautious Poster.Ã,  :D

1) Cautious Poster- You take 4 to 5 minutes to post a reply regarding a topic. After posting, you go back to proofread and make sure things make sense, without typing too much. This causes you to hit the modify button many times to ensure someone understands you or doesn't get at you the wrong way. You post in all areas but more frequently than others.

2) Fast poster- You have little to no time in posting a reply to anything. You constantly make errors in spelling and grammer, but try your best to help others. You stay away from long threads where someone has posted alot of text, and you don't type too much either. The forums you visit don't see you often, but you swing by every now and then.

3) Hardass Poster- You are egotistical, and can be cool sometimes. Other times, you are an ass, getting your point across through witty and sarcastic remarks. You don't really start too many topics, but you invade others and like to cause trouble sometimes. You don't care how your wording is and you don't take anything from anybody. You can be helpful sometimes, but most of the time, you make things worse.

4) Comical Poster- You are very witty, making people laugh at your posts. You post in most areas and have many friends who enjoy your posts as well. You explain how to help someone using easy and laughable comments. You cheer people up but you don't really start too many threads.

5) Serious Poster- You aren't here to play around. You hardly crack jokes at all. You vigorously look for helpful text in your threads, and you try to help others. You can't stand people who post information that isn't helpful, and you live life to the fullest. You tend to hang around the General area, replying to religious and political threads. You have made many contributions to the forum, and many people respect you.

6) Late Poster- You tend to live life slower than others, maybe too slow. You always reply to someone's post too late. Although you offer helpful information, someone beats you to it almost everytime. You tend to get on late at night or really early in the morning.
You have friends but you can never catch them on as late as you are on. You take your time with projects and posts, making sure you offer as much help, or bring all that you have to the table.

Just something I made up for fun. Sorry if this isn't allowed although I am sure it is...

General Discussion / Grim Fandango movie

Supposedly, Tim Burton is making a movie based on this game. Now I have never played GF, because I wasn't really too old when it was around, but im willing to bet the movie will be bad. Tim Burton massacred Willy Wonka, so what will he do this time?

General Discussion / Virus Scanner?
Tue 11/07/2006 03:58:40
I need some advice. Should I switch to a freeware virus scanner rather than pay $200.00 for a 3 year renewal of my McAfee? Im accustomed to McAfee, but I hate how it just ran out, and I don't have $200.00. I've never used AVG or ClamAV Anti-Virus. Either way, I need a virus scanner, because I am always connected to the internet by cable.

I got inspired by a game for the n64 called Rocket- Robot on Wheels and I decided to do a sprite like it. It's not a direct copy. Here it is:

What do you think? I think I got the shading a little wrong, but its fixable with some work.

General Discussion / Driver Problems?
Thu 29/06/2006 13:33:39
Ok, heres the ordeal. I like to play Super Smash Bros. on Kaillera, and I would like to use my Microsoft Sidewinder controller. It was given to me from my uncle, and it worked too, all I would have to do is plug it in my USB and configure it on PJ64k, but now, my computer doesn't even detect the damn thing. It's been pissing me off lately too, because as much as I would like to solve the problem, I have no idea where to start. I figured it was a driver but am I wrong?

EDIT: Heh, I think I should mention that it is the Microsoft Sidewinder Plug & Play Gamepad
here is a link to the image:

http://ascii24.com/news/i/hard/article/2000/03/27/images/images610957.jpg

EDIT: Never mind, I seem to have found the problem. It happens to be the cord, near the USB end. If I tug on it just a bit, I can use it. So is it a short or something? Is it safe to use in my computer?

Critics' Lounge / My Graffiti
Tue 13/06/2006 04:54:34
Recently, I made some friends from a town about 3 miles away from mine. These guys do tags (burners, graffiti...) and I decided to make my own graffiti. I don't plan to actually plan to tag up a wall, but I just drew this in about 45 mins.

I think its pretty good. It's my initials. I couldn't really figure out any other stylish fonts, so I drew this as best as I could. I just want to know if it needs more detail or clean ups.

I would be bored... very bored, and I would have no way to release my imagination (cause sometimes it has to have it's space) except through poetry and music. I probably would have done better in school. :D

General Discussion / Found the broken links
Wed 17/05/2006 02:16:41
I noticed that there are quite a few links on the AGS games page that are broken, so I did a search in Google for some of them, and I found this:

http://aafiles.bicycle-for-slugs.org/full/

Its a whole page with AGS games, old and new. I haven't tried all of them, but im sure they all work. I also didn't know if anyone else knew of this page but I may be wrong or something.
