It seems a bit dis-jointed.  Like you've glued bits of photos on to a background.

Especially the bald, naked chick.  Might be better with some sort of ethereal particle based swooshing around her, mimicking windy silkish clothes.  Some hair would be nice, too.

I'm undecided as to a response to the flaring of the lenses.

Firstly, here's a tutorial on drawing starfields (ie, space):
http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/tuts_arts/making_a_star_field.html

Secondly, if I could find a tutorial on putting in a modicum of effort, I would.

Making games seem alive isn't a new theory:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lure_of_the_Temptress
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Theatre

Other games have tried the Day/Night stuff, too.

Like most things, it's down to putting enough in.  The bigger the game, the more effort required.

Firstly, I rarely post.  This topic did hold my attention for long enough to warrant a response, though.

Let me explain the reasons for my lack of forumage.  I decided to stop visiting the forums on a regular basis, due to the various inane topics and stupid posters in the past.  I'm not blaming anyone in particular, and I'm the first to admit that those stupid posts were sometimes met with equally dumb responses on my part.  So I decided to leave until the situation improved.

I suspect I wasn't the only member to follow that course of action.  This is my theoretical reason to the decline in posts-per-day.

As for the drop in the game related board?  We have a number of factors here:

1.  Generally higher proportion of sensible users, meaning less people starting unnecessary threads like "What games have you played?" or "I like this game, tell me you like it too".  You all know the type.  You see the title and think "Oh dear, not another one..."
2.  Most discussions on games and game theory and whatnot has already taken place.  We discussed all the aspects of games at sometimes great length.  The opinions have been said before, for both sides of the various fences.  If a topic on say, GUIs, came up today, most people would think to themselves "Oh, I've answered that before, my opinion's the same as last time."
3.  The culmination of the previous 2 points is one simple thing.  The forum's "Search" tool.  The answer is there, and most of us have the commonsense and foresight to be able to use it.

The game related thread will most likely go back up in postings, it just needs a few really good debates to get people actively thinking about the games again, instead of just making/playing/whatevering them.  It's not a lack of posters, it's the posters we have become somewhat stagnant.

As to the folk who don't make games, that are on here.  I'll hold my hands up and admit I've not made anything so far.  The Critic's Lounge has been no end of help in the past, and it's allowed me to improve myself before I make a game.  I still plan to do something, but it's still a long term plan.  When I've got more drive and creativity to set that in motion, I know I'll be back here posting in the Tech and Critic boards as much as is necessary.

Note: If we are still plagued with inane posts and stupid members, disregard my comments.  I followed link to here, and didn't read the other topic titles.

QuoteSo i know what you say guys and I'll try to make pic you like but  you guys crit this pic
this rude like: "This is shit and chage anything"when I made a new pic you guys:
This is UTTERLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT and even how dare you come here and post your pic and anyway your a goddamn underaged dickhead.

Where's the improvement? Have you thought about how the character will fit in the background? Have you thought that using a tool to paste the same effortless X motif across the walls will in anyway make us think "wow, this is well made.."?

Before we go any further, could you draw a rouch sketch of a sprite and place him or her at a couple of random places on that background, so we can get a rough idea of what you're aiming for please.

I think you'll find that in one placement it may look vaguely sensible, but if you have the character move on screen, then rest of the time it'll look out of place.

But please, prove me wrong.

EDIT:

Quoteit's not a very professional but it's not soo crap it has a few (tho crap) shadows

Shadows come AFTER the basic structure is in place.  My whole point to begin with.

You're right ProgZ, my condescending tone was a little over the top, but I'm sure I'm not alone when I see posts/threads like this and feel disheartened at the lack of effort some of the newer folk are putting in.  It sometimes feels like it's changed from a "C&C Lounge" to a "I had half a minute spare whilst surfing for pr0n and I'm not good with lefthand-mousing but here's what I came up with before I came up with.. Lounge".

I'd just like to see people put in serious examples for us to criticise and hopefully help to improve, instead of just a reason to vent.

As for criticisms, I'd still suggest doing line art that looks good on a later viewing before taking it any further.

QuoteAnd please no unmature kid/kid with grammer problems crap ok Andail??(If you feel you must be my goddamn mentor and you have to make me mature send me a PM)
No point using a "matureness" argument, as it's clear you've not showed any maturity in your original post.  Honestly, I'm happy to try and help people, but when I see pictures drawn in paint with almost zero effort, it makes me wonder if there's a point at all.

Saying it's DOTT style? Have you even played DOTT?  Your BGs wouldn't even class as first sketches for proper BGs, yet you've bothered to color them.  Please explain why?  Can you name any other semi-serious game that has put this little effort into the basic design of a BG, let alone bothered to waste time coloring it? What kind of f*cked up characters to you plan on using? Mr. Bendy and Captain Slant-o?

Seriously, just use a line tool/curve tool first, to get a basic shape.  Would that be so hard? Take a moment to step back and look at it.  Is it vaguely sensible? If YES, then continue.  If NO, then start again, and don't try polishing a turd with colors and other fancy tools.  Threads like this are just a waste of eveyone's time, please don't post unless you're going to try and put some effort in.  Think about the background first.  Have a basic idea to begin with.  Maybe even do a rough sketch on paper.  Don't do it because you're bored in class.

As for DOTT style, they bent the rules with perpective.  Please bother to learn the rules before trying to bend them.

This is also not an age thing, before you say it.  Some 13 year olds put effort in, some 30 year olds don't.  Effort/practice/time/whatnot.. It all adds up and makes you better in the long run.

Also back off topic, but wtf? There's no need.  You have a keyboard.  F*cking use it properly for a change..

Tried emailing sharkyandgeorge.com admins?

I thought of that, but I can't find a way of contacting them.  It's insane that most other cartoons have loads of details, and all I can find hardly anything about this.  I've spoke to loads of people who remeber the show, but can only name the two main characters.

If it helps jog anyones memory, the lived and worked in the City of Seacago.

(Googling that gets me nothing of interest, either).

Unless I win the lottery this week, I'm afraid I'm going to be absent.
Someone else will have to take my place in the storm drain.

I expect a plethora of pictographs. Don't disappoint me, as I have you.

On the plus side, now you all have a fair chance of being the drunkest one there.

The squid thing.
In Sharky and George.

I've googled it, and I can't find his name anywhere..

Some pics, to jog your memory:

Please help, before I take to bashing my head open to explore the contents for an answer..

It's driving me crazy.

I just tried making one, and for a moment I thought it worked.  Turned to be a mark on my glasses in reality.

Before I comment, yodaman11111, can you post a list of all the various hardware and software you're using at the moment.  Try to include everything, with extra details where possible.  That way I'll have a better understanding of your set up, and I'll try and help improve the sound.

Also, if you're going to take the recordings remotely serious, let me know how much of a budget you have for equipment, and which country you're in.
#194
Again, It's a good thing I'm not in charge, Yodaman.
#195
It's a good thing I'm not in charge.  I'd ban everyone who tried spoiling it for at least a month.

Then I'd ban them again mid-March next year, so they don't have the chance to be asses again.

This was the crappiest April Fool's joke ever. As soon as I read the thread title I groaned.

..And yet you still continued to tried to spoil it for others.  Shameful.

It's just that with AGS going to console, I'm suggesting that the gun controller is more intuitive than the usual game pad controller to an adventure gamer who's used to a mouse, since it works basically in the same point-and-click way.

As much as the Console-Gun-Thing might be close to a mouse, I think we've got the chance to completely revolutionise the "Point and Click" genre with a next/next gen console port.  The possiblities with more than just the vertical and the horizontal as controlling axis alone has blown the genre wide open.  It's not just point and click, it's at the very least "think, point then click".

The second image is 1,735 x 768 pixels..
Does that even fit in AGS?

Don't get me wrong, but I'd suggest pixelling a 320x200/240 image first, and a few times after just for practice.

To me, the less size, means you have to concentrate on composition more (and in will in turn) have less open space/empty gaps.

Both pics look nice, aside from their emptiness, Charly.  The larger one looks a lot clearer tho, as it hasn't been resized.  I'd really suggest practicing on smaller canvases before increasing the detail, tho.  For me, it gives a much better idea of what should go where, as there's a much less limited space to do the same thing.

The shark poster looks exciting the big pic, in the smaller one, it looks faded and rather drab.  Take that thought and apply it to every part of the image.  The resize has made everything washed out and weak looking.

I'd suggest resizing the 002 image to half it's size at least, and then repainting over the top of it.  Even if you don't use it, it's still practice for later.

There's a tutorial floating about somewhere.  I think it was either Eric or Helm.  Whoever did Sol, most likely.

Find it, or ask about it.  For stars, it was a cracking guide.

Eric's "MrCollosal".  I've no idea who Helm's parading around as at the moment.
#199
For a first attempt, you put a HECK of a lot of us to shame.  I'd have to agree with Steve, tho.  Your version does look as little TOO square.

Square, is NOT necessarily a bad thing, tho.  See MrCollosal/Eric's art for examples.

(Eric, your squares are good, and have been a big influence on me.  I don't want you two get the wrong idea).

What sort of of music is this aforementioned guitarist playing?

From his stance, it's Jazz guitar.
From the size of the guitar, in relation to his stance, it's a Baritone guitar.

I'd need to know more about the character before I could say any more.
