Well, I'd suggest that the naval blockade of Cuba probably was one example. Also: Berlin airlift, evacuation of US citizens from Dominican Republic, Cambodia, Egypt (during Suez crisis), Cyprus, etc.

And if there's something you absolutely need to get off your chest, post anonymously.

Can you be more anonymous than "Anonymous Game Developer"? ;)

Well, I didn't finish 2010: World Of Chaos, but I still know it's a terrible game (but ain't in the games DB so isn't eligible).

Personally, I think the backlash reflects the disappointment rather than the quality. You had set a high bar for yourselves, and when people came to pay more than double what games like Bone and Sam and Max charge they expected something more. In some ways, its like a formula:

rating =  quality * price of old game / quality of old game * price of new game

and since your old game was free, you've got a multiply by zero which screws you up bigtime

Anyway, as I hinted earlier: it only took 3 votes to get you nominated. And you're in illustrious company here: http://forums.adventuregamers.com/showthread.php?p=387491 where you were narrowly beaten to worst game of 2006 by Benoit Sokal and Broken Sword 4...

This reminds me of "The Avengers" movie. The trailer and main actors were sexy, cool and generally awesome IMHO. The movie was.... garish and surreal. Now, some people may like garish and surreal, but that's not how it was presented in the build-up, so nearly everyone was disappointed.

I wouldn't want my kids playing a boxing game.... you listed one.

Anyway, there are loads of excellent kids flash games on the NickJr, Cbeebies and Playhouse Disney websites that my daughters love, and...

Dancing penguins!

Not to mention the My Little Pony and Pingu CDROMs they have...

First off, you are displaying the exact behavior of Americans that I have been fighting for years.

And this from a guy who had an army posting in Iraq? No wonder they're having so much trouble out there if the soldiers are fighting the Americans instead of the insurgents... ;)

My guilty pleasure is that I love telling n00bs to stop posting so many new threads.

Helm, while you may be correct in theory, in practice NOT making these immunisations mandatory would generally make two groups suffer most in the long term: the children of least educated (hence the poorest) and the children of the most religiously conservative. Most others will assume that the government recommendation is best. I'm not sure that this is the best possible outcome.

I had to break into my old terraced house once when I locked the keys inside. Here was my walkthrough:

Remember left kitchen window at back of house open. Can't get to back of house, since in middle of terrace. Go to neighbour's house, ask if can climb over back wall in garden. Climb over wall, get into my back garden. Find kitchen window open, but it is a louvre window with glass slats. Remove glass slats from plastic surrounds. Slice back of thumb open with glass as it pops out. climb in through window, let wife in through front door then find bandage for thumb.

I still have the scar...

You're correct there. Well, even so, people should go for a compulsory STD test anyway.

Which STD? And when? And why?

I would make an exception in vaccination of really fast-spreading and deadly illments, but smallpox ain't it.
Errr... smallpox was responsible for an estimated 300â€"500 million deaths in the 20th century. As recently as 1967, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 15 million people contracted the disease and that two million died in that year.

I had previously read that as "smallpox it ain't", thinking you meant that HPV wasn't as dangerous, but it isn't.

Another thing I found, just reading about it, is that it is described as a "prophylactic vaccine". Perhaps some of the conservatives misunderstood what "prophylactic" really means...

Yeah, return works like a break statement if you farm your loop out to its own function. But really, these are all syntactic sugar that can be worked around...

The case in point is closer to the goverment making you wearing your own seatbelt MANDATORY than it is ruling against driving under the influence.

And rear passengers without seatbelts have crushed the occupants of the front seats in car accidents. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdhqbqoa5bQ

You're also forgetting that the average American is too stupid to assess the risk/benefit objectively.

Helm, early smallpox vaccinations had as high as 2% mortality rates and yet were made mandatory in many countries. Was this a bad thing?

Most modern vaccine concerns are not about the vaccines themselves but for the possible risk of the mercury-containing preservatives used with them. Some people think they cause autism, but these usually in cases of much smaller children and in any case, the WHO and most major studies disagree: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiomersal

When I try the "add to source control" option, I get a clearcase errror... can you throw some light on the source control support?

I can't fathom how this is related to Rui's error, though...
