"4 days a juvenile delinquent"... Trilby's early days
"3 days a naughty scamp" ... earlier still
"2 days a terrible toddler"... earlier still
"1 day a zygote"... earlier still

I think I'll retire from game designing after I've finished the one I'm doing now. There's only so much adventure designing a man can take before he wants to move on to pastures new.

There were 10 games with 2 votes in this category and 23 games with 1 vote. As I said, a broad spread.
#1784
Yes please, we haven't got enough dumb joke games.

So, I'm listening to the SkypeCast (thanks MadReiska!)(and well done SSH et al.) and I noticed that you named Reactor 09 as one of the nominees for Best Animation but the voting page lists Trilby's Notes in its stead.  What's up?

And thanks to everyone who voted for Linus, and thanks for the honorary best title award!

Whoops, sorry, animation was the last on my counting page and there was a cut-and-paste error in what I was looking at in the skypecast, so the voting page is the definitive list.

Here are some points:

1. That award had a very wide distribution of votes across many games, including some of the other ones you have mentioned. There wasn't many votes between not being nominated (i.e. only getting 2 votes) and being nominated...

2. Al Emmo was also nominated for Documentation and Backgrounds

3. I think that some people got annoyed at the rhetoric from the himalaya people in the completed games thread

4. Al's voice.....

5. They themselves said that the demo isn't the best part of the game and was a bit of an afterthought, and I think the demo is what most people's opinions will be based on

6. It might be time to expunge this award from future years...

The skypecast is done and you can go and vote here, but please try and play all the games in any category that you vote for. If you haven't managed to play them all, please just leave out that category. A torrent will be available ASAP!

Or it could be a non-commercial game. Or not.  8)

I bet he doesn't.

[tease]I know who'll win in the fight for AGS Award nominations... and you can find out tonight!  := [/tease]

I'd much rather see The Welder versus the Skunk-Ape

Well, some audio guys are going to get something today when they hear the Best Music and Best use of Sound nominations...

It would be nice if there was space for a whole lot more on the AGS games pages... for example, a recommendation system (as someone else suggested recently), a note of if the game had any external awards or reviews (from AdventureGamers, Just Adventure, etc.), a note of whether the game had any AGS awards nominations, etc.

I wasn't joking.

Anyway, since you practically admit to being a troll, I don't see any point in any of your threads. Perhaps you should re-read the forum rules, especially the part about respecting others.

spikey, I think I should let you know that there are no FOREGOs this year, so your late entry into the "worst n00b" competition is wasted...

OK, the votes are counted, the nominations sorted and things are being prepared for the announcement later today! I'll try and capture the announcements as an MP3, but I'll put up a text version after anyway, and you'll be able to see on the voting page...

The big file of (almost) all the nominated games comes in at about 270M, just trying to sort out a torrent just now, or you'll still be able to download them individually from the games pages, too, anyway. If you do use a torrent it, please keep your client going so that the global bandwidth is increased for everyone!

and Vince, if your daughter doesn't get you up at 6am ANYWAY, you're getting no sympathy from me ;)

I recommend that you go to a library and get "The Joy of Work" by Scott Adams (creator of Dilbert) and read the section on humour. There's a summary of it at http://dilbertblog.typepad.com/the_dilbert_blog/2005/12/humor_formula.html

His idea is basically that the core of humor is the 2-of-6 rule. In order for something to be funny, you need at least two of the following elements:

Cute (as in kids and animals)

Naughty

Bizarre

Clever

Recognizable (You've been there)

Cruel

Now, not only have you got to try for these thingsm, you;ve got to do them in a funny way. In your first strip, you're aiming for cute, recognisable and cruel. I think you need to work a bit on the character design to make them a bit cuter, but they're a bit of the way there. Recognisable: well, I'm guessing that the first panel is burnt toast, but I'm not sure. Second panel is car exploding (not particularly recognisable) and the last one also misses the recognisability. And cruel, well it is a bit, but more physical pain on Blip would be fuinnier.

Second strip is only going for recognisability. It gets it, but only has 1 of 6 and so fails again.

Don't worry about your artwork so much: the humour is the thing.

Someone should create a games page for this...
#1799
No, because the end of voting has been set to 9am GMT on Monday for ages now, and I don't think its fair to move the goalposts now, in case some Americans are planning to play some more games and then vote on Sunday evening...

The awards ceremony proper will be on IRC from 8pm GMT on Sunday 11th February, however, so you can come along for that.

You start up skype, click the link above in your browser, and I'm hoping it all magically works from there...
