General Discussion / Re: My new video! :)

Don't download this video, it's one of those contraversial banana-and-animal-involving ones that that other thread goes on about!

Spoiler

That should get you a few 1000 hits, Matt ;)

A stack holds a list off all the functions withing functions that have been called to get to wherever you are in the code just now. You'll see a stack dump after certain AGS runtime errors already, so its really just a matter of making that info available to the game itself...  it wouldn't really be suitable for a saved game.

I was thinking of using one or other of the features for the MultiResponse module, so that you could have a count for responses based solely on where the function was called from. Some people seem to prefer using the module like this, it seems. (It makes autonumbering of speech easier, for a start).

You're Jim. You're a Brit. If anyone takes offence at you being British then they're surely racist, not you.

But British is one of those nationality you're allowed to be racist about, like the French, Americans and Khazakstan

It would be nice if the following constants were defined at compile time:

AGS_SCRIPT_NAME  holds "Global" in global script, quoted module name in module script and "Room NNN" in room script.
AGS_LINE_NUMBER holds the current line number

if it would be easier for these to be static variables, then sobeit. Also, I'd love if you had some runtime access to the calling stack (pehaps in debug mode only):

String Game.Stack

I think there's a general problem that people somehow see stuff that's done on/for the internet as not "real" somehow. Flirting and cybar online can still ruin a marriage/realtionship just as much as flirting IRL. And committing acts of animal cruelty is no less cruel if you post the video on YouTube. Probably most people can agree with me so far. But here's the contraversial thing... stealing is just as bad if you use a computer to do it as if you broke into someone's house and took their money. Just becuase its easier doesn't make it less wrong. So uninstall eMule, delete those downloaded MP3s and don't be a hypocrite complaining about this stuff if you've got any stolen music on yoru hard drive.

MultiResponse can already do this:

cNPC.Say(Multi.SRespond("The bookshelf contains many books.>There is a Harry Potter book.>There is also a horror novel." ));

Lets rename this thread the "Awesome artists show off that what they call rubbish is better than what us mere mortals can ever aspire to"

Prashant,

1. You left debug mode on
2. That walkcycle is up there with yodaman's!
3. I can talk to the guy with the blue spotty robe who says to collect jewels, but I can't leave the room...
4. Given the graphic quality, why is it necessary to use 800x600 resolution?

Ever tried using a module or template in AGS 2.72 and got warnings about GetGameParameter or RunDialog being undefined? BackwardsCompatible fixes that without any changes to the existing module. Wahey!

It works in any AGS version but there ain't much point in using it in anything except AGS 2.72.

Please let me know if there are any more obsoleted functions that need supporting here.

Try a puzzle with this solution:

Take off your dressing gown, and hang it up on the hook.  Then, get the towel and put it over the drain.  Wait until Ford is asleep, then nick his satchel and put it in front of the panel.  Put the junk mail on the satchel, then press the dispenser button. A babel fish will land in your ear, and you will be able to understand all
languages.

I agree with DG and Chrille. The problem is making it clear, though, that there is a glass door BEFORE the slapstick punchline. Perhaps the vampire could try sliding the glass door and find it locked, or press his own face against it, or wipe some condensation from it or something...

General Discussion / Re: Decent DVD-R's?

How old is the tv-dvd combo? Some older/low-end ones don't play DVD-Rs. See if you can try it on another DVD player...

And check out this compatibility database:

I doubt it is the media which is the problem, but more likely the software or equipment with which you are reading or writing them... different brands will maybe last longer (30 years instead of 20) or have fewer individual duds in a set, or be more resistant to scratching, but the problems you describe don't sound like a media problem.

Perhaps you should:

1) Read the forum rules
2) Mention which program you are trying to use
3) Mention which hosting you are using for your website

Have you looked at any AMD processors? I started going with AMD back when Intel was the big evil empire. I think they're a better value, and nowadays I think they're probably better processors too.

AMD CPUs are great value at the moment because they are way behind the Core2 Duo on performance and have nothing better in the pipeline, so they can only win on pricing... but the Core2 wins out on "better processor" in almost every situation, plus a 4-core one is coming soon.

down in X, Y+1; up is X, Y-1; left is X-1, Y and right is X+1, Y. Easy peasy
