Pretty cool, but why does Roger have a rope coming out of THERE exactly?  :=

This suggestion is probably a bit too much information but might not be hard to implement. For any given reviewer on the panel who has reviewed a statistically significant number of games (e.g. 30 or more based on six sigma principles) then the reviewer is kept secret, but the cup rating says : 3 cups... is better or equal to X% of the other games reviewed by this reviewer. Then at least you'd be able to see if it was reviewed by a hardass or a softie.

WHY DOES DARTH RATE NELLY AS ONLY 3 CUPS. I DEMAND A RECOUNT!

Oh, sorry, wrong thread ;)

Maybe we should just make the scale from 2-6 cups instead of 1-5 and then everyone's egos will be artificially inflated? This suggestion sounds facetious, but if it reduces complaints, why not? 1 cup can be reserved for games that are so bad they don't even run, etc.

Actually, in previous years I've gone and reminded people ahead of time to get their games in before the year end. This year I didn't, so perhaps some adjustments can be made. Mea culpa.

Here's an idea. Perhaps when a new game is added to the DB there can be two submit buttons: One for "I agree for my game to be reviewed by a single member of the review panel and their rating to be available for people to see and sort by and  I accept that I may not like their opinion because all opinions are subjective" and another with "I do not want my game to be reviewed by the review panel and accept that I will therefore not get a cup rating". Although people should presumably be allowed to change their minds later within reason.

Have you tried my SimpleRain one? No idea if it works, myself...  :=

Hmm, what is this?  ???

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/Newsite/Games.aspx/Detail/332/Tall_man_from_Trilbys_Notes

Could not find it on the current website.

EDIT: The recent posts in "From the Forums" show threads that are off-limits.

Due to the way the voting script for the awards works there are some "games" in the DB that are actually the best supporting characters nominations... these are normally hidden!

A agree, looking good. Not sure if we should also include stars/cups/ratings from other places that tend to review AGS games, perhaps? (It might also take some heat off of the poor ratings ppl to have more reviews for irate developers to get in a strop about)

maybe you created a character or view with the same name as something in the file which automatically creates a #define of the character or view name in uppercase to the char/view number.

Welcome back, by the way! Still awaiting Buccaneer 2 :)

But there's no such word of zeroth whether it is accurate or started later or not.

Of course, everyone goes by decades starting when the 9 rolls over to a zero in reality so its a pointless discussion, rather like angels on a pinhead.

Since there was a grand total of 0.5 volunteers I've asked CJ to set up the nominations process as per last year and lets hope that something emerges over the next 3 weeks of nominations...
#315
Pedants will of course point out that the new decade doesn't start until 2011. :)

I'm sure we've had this debate before, but basically its based on AD meaning "of our Lord" (it means this whether you're a Christian or not) and therefore year numbers are ordinal numbers, of which the first number is "first" and not "zeroth". Therefore the first decade AD began in the year 1 and ended at the end of year 10 and the second decade went 11-20 etc. Therefore the third millenium goes 2001-3000 and this decade runs 2001-2010.

People seem to love to hate Titanic but I love it. Apart from Piranha II: The Spawning, he hasn't made a bad movie (and that he had to take over half way through). Going to see Avatar tomorrow. :)

User ratings could have half-cups or even smaller fractions.

Why not then just have a percentage? Which is what there is now?

Because a picture is better than text.

I back Duty and Beyond and Hallway of Adventures (i think thats what its called). Mordalles is excellent.

It seems like everything he touches turns to gold.. EVERYTHING!

Has to be careful when using a urinal, does he?

We're all missing the big issue here, which is: Nelly Cootalot doesn't have a AGS Review Panel comment! All the other rated games seem to. Did the reviewer suffer some kind of repetetive strain injury from typing the word 'derivative'?

I think that right at the beginning of the review panel when they were working through the 900-odd game backlog that was already in the DB, there was no Panel Comment field and that this was added later. That's my recollection from my own ancient-history brief time on the panel. So no comment is perhaps an indication that the reviewer was keen to review that game early... or not.

And as for worthy 3-cuppers that missed out on Awards, if you look at the picks of the month, that's what many of them ARE, particularly in Feb/March each year. As I've said many times before, I'm very happy to recieve suggestions for Pick of the Month (especially from people who aren't the author!) but nearly no-one ever does. I'm sure that if McCarthy doesn't win any awards then it has a good chance of becoming a PoTM next year.
