Here's another LGPL module to let you zoom in and out on a sprite. The RawDraw functions are used to put the sprite on the background with different scaling.

Updated 28/11/05: Moved repeatedly_execute stuff into rep_ex_always, so you can use Wait commands with the zoom stuff.
Updated 4/8/06: Fixed to work with AGS 2.72

Sorry to hijack this thread a little but I noticed today the GetGameParameter in the manual doesnt say if the sprite height and width returned are in 320x200 pixels or in real pixels... it is the latter, I found, but it would nice if this were documented...

I believe that there is a metaphysical world : one that science cannot measure or analyse. The human "soul" is the typical example of this. What am I, essentially? And what are things like love? And anyone who has done any kind of basic philosophy, such as read "Sophie's World" will understand that an creator being could be invisible to us as and when it chooses.

Tiki does have a valid point. I read a book from a former BBC science correspondent and he is not religious at all but he said that although evolution from primitive multiple-cellular organisms to humankind is prety solid theory, everything from amino acids to multi-celled organisms was pretty flaky based on huge amounts of assumption and supposition.

Gah! I'm trying to remember my trigonometry to work out how the steps should change, but its all gone. This is what happens 14 years after leaving school...

In my star wars scroller I used a reciprocal of a loop counter to calculate the size as things scrolled away. Another way to do it is to utilise the walkable area scaling and speed scaling and make your house a character...

What you need to do to keep the speed of change is to increase the amount you change x, y, w and h by each game cycle. In fact, I'll maybe go and make a module to do this...

By the way, Dan, listening to your interview: why not have her with the hat at the beginning, she loses it and then only gets it back right at the end of the game... with an appropriate in-joke comment when she gets it back!  ;)

I've uploaded an improved version of my game with some commenting in the code and a background for the fight, rather than just blackness. Also, please note that the link I originally gave in my summary of Gord' game only had the game and no source, but if you followed his own link youcould get the source code. I have now added the source link too.

Zor: your game is pretty fun and I like how you used characters and objects for your huge numbers of aliens. I think the difficulty level needs adjusting a bit, as its very hard to die, apart from when you run out of ammo. Even then, it can take ages. Oh, and sometimes aliens get stuck when they come down the narrow alley... The code, however, is unreadable and this is a coding contest with the stated aim of being reusable.

Babar: Wow! The upgraded graphics are great! Nice coding (although try and indent things a bit more consistently, and put a few more comments in). The game itself maybe needs a few more things to shoot, though.

Gord/Ahmet/Coolblue: Some more animation of the punches/kicks would be nice, and it is hard to tell what the rules are for HP to get reduced, exactly. Code is OK, about same level as Babar's.


I vote for Babar, as he did something different and stretched himself.


And in terms of how nice the code is, I definately pwn  ;) , but as we see, the public don't always consider that..

Well, in the spriti of the entires so far, I haven't followed rule 2 either, but I will later... when I get around to it.

I'd like to set up a forums for the game project specifically, so that we can talk about this without cluttering up these ofurms, and so, if we decide to keep things secret we can set up appropriate permissions for different members, etc. We can also keep links for data, files, etc. and so on.

So, most important I think is to get this set up and then have this debate there. Once people see more ofthe AOTS outline they might be more keen on it. Or not, but i really dont want to have spilers in a thread this early on. We can also have the debate about whether to let everyone see spoilers or not, but until that is dcided, the default should be secret...

I seem to have been elected as director though... any objections?
