Well, now having finished the whole book, my considered opinion is:

Spoiler

Well, having had it spoiled because I didnt think i would read the book, I think that it was still an enjoyable read. Also, when you know that Dumbledore's going to pop it, its pretty heavily hinted at all the way through the book.

I think, actually, that HBP is a much better book than the previous two. In fact, it is maybe the best book in a kind of Empire Strikes Back way, having a similar kind of hanging ending. Although it is also VERY similar to LOTR: Old wizard and mentor dying, Snape as Gollum, Harry (Frodo) trying to go off and do what he has to do and trying to leave the others behind him for their sakes. However, I don't think there's a parallel for Aragorn....

From what JKR says here: http://www.mugglenet.com/jkrinterview.shtml I think that Snape still being a triple agent is a bit optimistic

For example, SSH's Princess Marian series is one of my favorites, because of its very unique and cute personality.

What are you talking about Lonely Star? Jozef is a perceptive and excellent reviewer!  :=

Oh don't worry, my flag is only accurate to within 10 miles or so ;)

You mean you don't live on the railway line? We were speculating on #ags about you being a hobo...

Actually, what would be really cool was if it worked like the Marauder's Map and tracked all the AGSers as they moved around. Then CJ could tell when Esseb was sneaking up on him...

General Discussion / Re: The 10th Planet

Well, Xena is a Kuiper belt object, and there's loads of them. They have found large ones before, but they are mainly classified as asteroids. Surely the definition of planet is more than just the size of the object in question?

Well, I don't claim to be an expert astronomer, but I wonder if that lady who was suing NASA for hitting the comet are going to sue the guy who found this planet for messing up her horoscope again...

The Rules:
Every week a post will be made with a list of items and a scenario. Using your wit, skill and large collection of 1950's Barbie dolls; find a way to complete the scenario with the items provided. You can only use a set number of items of your own choice. When I say use your skill, use it.

For example: you have a boulder and a reinforced window. I advise not using Pick Up boulder, chuck through window. Think of something adventuresque to use.

Voting: After the week-ish voting shall start.

What If I win?: you choose the next scenario and list of items. Then you post it for all the world to see.

Here is your quest: Capture the Great International Christmas Pudding!

Many years ago in the year 562 BC
The Great monumental International Christmas Pudding was struck by lightning which also struck a tree.
And the magnificent International Christmas Pudding atop a temple tall,
Was broken into two portions by the knock it received during the fall.
And oh, these portions had been carried to a far corner of the earth,
And this terrible disaster is not an occasion for mirth, and oh...

Yes, it was in 1843 that the discovery in the Sudan of a large fossilised fragment of this long forgotten pudding prompted a question in the House of Commons, "And the discovery of this portion of pudding prompts me to suggest that if all the portions, if all the portions of this emblem of international goodwill and understanding could be reassembled and set up in some appropriate spot it might well be the turning point in the falling prestige of this wonderful country of ours."

So, you are in charge of the expedition to the jungle to capture the last potion of Christmas pudding, which has turned man-eater and is roaming the forest of Ying-Tong-Iddle-I-Po.

Here are the only items you can use:

One knee-action, self-reciprocating Christmas Pudding gun.
One hand painted inflatable Christmas Pudding decoy with rubber hollow.
One portable plastic and gravel road.
One long bent thing with a sort of lump on the end.
One waterproof cover for same.
One same.
Thirty-three boxes of yellow kosher boots.
Another long bent thing with a sort of lump on the end.
One uncooked leather trilby with sugar feather.
One sixty foot explodable granite statue with built in plunger
Detailed plans of what to do with long bent thing with a sort of lump on the end.
One semi-circular grass telescope.
One  quarter pound of jelly babies.
One plate
One pudding cloth
One dish cover
One hypodermic syringe with Rabies vaccine

Have fun!

Yay! Now I have to think of a puzzle... HMmmm

Two thoughts:

a) Maybe Rockstar put this in as a clvere marketing ploy to get a huge bunch of free publicity, and everyone knows that there's no such thing as bad publicity...

b) While seeing violence on TV or a movie or game has never made me think "Wow, I want to go out an  pop a cap (whatever that means  := )", seeing sexy scenes on TV has certainly made me horny on occasion.

The whole shurnken head interview thing on the second DVD sucked for the 3rd movie, though. In fact, the shrunken head sucked in general.

There has been nearly no fuss about this in the UK becuase it was ALWAYS an 18 game here. And UK game ratings are enforcable, US ones are voluntary...

Well, I dont suppose many writers write their books saying "Oh yes, THIS one will be a classic"... or on the other hand, maybe ALL writers do that.

But on the subject of the films, the 3rd one was waaaay better than the first two. Even if he did overuse the bird flying into whomping willow joke.

Books 1-4 managed to keep up a pretty surprising twist at the end. Book 5 I found the end rather dull. Not read #6 yet. Before #5 I had thought that JKR had a great twist waiting at the end of book #7 but now I'm not so sure, and it seems that a lot of people pretty much guessed the plot of  book 6 in advance, so my hopes for the series as a whole are low.

In 50 years time, I don't think that the Harry Potter series will be as popular as LOTR.

My original guess for the end of #7 was that Harry would have to cast a spell that removed magic from the world altogether as the only way to stop Voldemort. That would explain why there wouldn't be a book #8....

Everyone gets more and more intereseting as they get older. Those who survive have learned from their mistakes and become better. My daughters are constantly getting more interesting as they grow up. And myself, my life experience is more, there are more stories, more ideas, more thoughts. And more bad jokes.

Now Andail has to deal with people, some of whom have lost that ability to grow more interesting and remember what happened to them yesterday, etc. Some will still be full of great old stories of when they were younger that they can remember, but others will not and that is truly sad. I have great admiration for people who take care of those in this condition, and those that you cannot communicate with in any way.

And as for being too old to accomplish things: there are plenty of actors and actresses who didnt start until they were much older, there are many who start a new careeer later in life. There are millions of ways which things can still be meaningful in your life, especially if your introspection is happening when you're under 30, for goodness sake! And even if you're 50, many political careers started then and the world-changing potential there is huge!

So what that I'm too old to become a great athlete, although Linford Christie's successes started at 32. So what that I'm not as rich as Bill Gates was when he was 30. I'm happy and I know that I've contributed at least 2 great things to the world: my daughters.

But there's two major forms of Islam anyway, Shia and Sunni, and the Pope only accounts for about half the world's christians...

Anyway, isn't the central authority suppsoed to be God?

Wierdly enough, I find the fact that the police have admitted to killing a completely inccocent man slightly reassuring: the fact that they admitted it themselves and not cover it up is a sign that some of the whacky conspiracy theories abou tthe whole thing are even more far-fetched

Congratulations. And remember, when a girl gets married she needs to have just three things on her mind:

Aisle
Altar
Hymn

I think that the moon being made of cheese idea was around WAAAAAY before Wallace and Gromit.

Wikipedia says: John Heywood's Proverbes (1546) commented that "The moon is made of a greene cheese,"

Excellent, that would allow for more detailed stalking of the more sexy members of the forums...  ;D

but, but, CJ: all the fun in AGS programming is working around things like the string handling. Fixing things will mean that ANYONE can do stuff.  :'(
