It strikes me as a very strange name - I'm surprised you came up with much the same thing independently. Maybe there's some shared pool of influence that I'm missing.

The 1st Commandment, maybe

Ooh, I actually managed to see some screenshots now and they look great!

Quick, I'll try and d/l the demo! yup, got it!

EDIT:

Well, its a good start and not many ppl have done 1st person AGS games. Your right-click doesn't inlcude the walk verb as part of its cycle, which is a bit of a pain, and I couldn't find anything to interact with, just walk around.

Also, the face maker is excellent, needs a bit of refinement  but was fun. The cursor should be a generic arrow there or "select" or something rather than "look", though.

And if you zipped the file and renamed it to .zi1, your file would be about 65% of the size and thus use less bandwidth and your site would stay up longer!

Did you design Northbank village by yourself? Looks good!

Not working again: I guess you have a very low bandwidth limit on that account which you have exceeded. The pictures are broken too...

ill upload it in a day or two

No illegal software copying on the forums, please.
#3605
And having tried, probably they CANT download it...! It seems broken for me.

KingMick, why not try using the upload space mentioned here in: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=7920.msg260594#msg260594

also, I suggest that you ZIP your game before uploading it, that way you can bundle all the files in together and reduce the size! AGS games tend to compress a lot.

Alias, I know the rules, but obviously a game where there is something available should get a bit more slack than just someone saying "Hey, I'm making a Monkey Island fangame and I need a coder, artist, musician and story writer"

a) I'd think that screenshots are not quite so important when there is actually a demo available, although yes it would be nice
b) you could help him by capturing some yourself, FlukeVillaAvonSurvilan
c) There are 5 stages of n00bdom:

1. Ask lots of stupid questions that show that you haven't read the forum rules or Beginners FAQ
2. Develop a persuecution complex when the moderators tell you off
3. If you haven't left in a huff, realise your mistakes and learn from them
4. Overcompensate by pretending to be a moderator and telling everyone else off for the things you did wrong yourself the previous week
5. Finally become a normal member of the community

just one stage to go!

Originally when I started the FOREGOs the idea was to encourage people to contribute well to the forums (sexiest AGSer encourages people to post hot pics of themselves, woo!  := ), but the problem is that unless you're in the top 5 or so for a year then you dont get any recognition.

So the idea was to encourage people to do stuff. I never wanted a system that would discourage or prohibit anyone from doing anything!

The problem with reviews, is that unlike everything else creative to do with AGS, they don't actually come as part of the forum. Completed Game threads tend to get short comments, rather than reviews. There needs to be a way for people to say "Great game" and ways for people to give an in-depth review, and for those looking at a game to find the reviews. Also, people with a general community interest migth like to see all the most recent reviews. I dont think the reviews on the games page are really moderated, which would be required to stop malicious or spurious reviews getting in the system. So how about having some more Games page moderators nominated (how many ar there now?) and woudl it be possible to have a "Game Reviews" forum that cant be posted to directly, but rather any review posted on a game's page gets mirrored as a forum post?

Does that make sense or sound silly?
#3609
Ummm... the link you posted points to exactly the same place as the download page one, Redmax, and doesn't work. Try the one in my previous post!
#3610
Try here: http://kafkaskoffee.com/images/games/6DAwin.zip

Derived from some URL guessing and help from dasjoe...

Very unhelpfully, that site's html itself points to the AGS downlaod which point to the old website. Maybe Eric or a moderator can update the games page link...
#3611
Thats what THIS THREAD is for!

and yes the http://www.sylpher.com/kafka/images/games/6DAwin.zip URL is broken for me too, in fact the whole of the kafka directory seems to be deleted... !

Does the compression automatically turn itself off on a sprite-by-sprite basis if it would make the srpite bigger?

First of all, before anything else: please stop calling Gilbot V7000a - Gilbert.
He is NOT Gilbert. Gilbert is someone else.

There's more than one Gilbert in this adventure gaming world. There's Gilbert Cheung (Gilbot), Dave Gilbert and Ron Gilbert, amongst others. The 3 i mention are all exteremely talented in their own way.

Let us drop the case.

Fine, fine... I was only responding to what I thought was an overreaction: all Gilbot said to you was " You can actually use this thread to find games.".. It was Simmykrantz123 who he was really complainign about!

Not because I forgive the way you inadvertently react on a first-signal basis - That is not to be excused.

My wife doesn't have English as a first langauge either and simple langauge misunderstandings can cause disagreements that aren't really there. Since I don't actually understand haklf of what you are trying to say, I think that we should indeed just drop it.

The AGS Forums are extremely precious and we would not like to lose them (as it almost happened).

When did we nearly lose them?

I do not want to hear about "paying for appointees on a free forum for free games" anymore.
Godo thing that I never said anything like that, then  :P

?people appointed by those who are paying ?

Gilbot+numbers appointed?! Paid for?!

Paid for what?

Almost all AGS games are free, and these forums are free.... for the users. CJ pays for the forums and has appointed Gilbert as a moderator to enforce the rules of the forum. Most people consider Gilbert to be one of the gentler moderators.

as for the rest of your post, I really don't understand why you think there are any legal implications to what I said.  Why are you going on about "paid for"? I said that you get what you pay for... you paid nothing therefore you get nothing by rights. Any use of this forum or game support, etc. is a bonus that CJ would be well within his rights to withdraw at any point.
#3615
Another principle of the market economy is that you get what you pay for, so when you post a message asking for a free game on a free forum, don't be surprised if people appointed by those who are paying for the website ask you to follow the well-advertised rules.

I didn't notice your post in the thread that Gilbert mentioned, were you using another name?

Did you catch that?  I used the name of a previously declared struct as the name of a data member.  And it compiled.  Perhaps it's just me, but that doesn't seem right...

I think its normal that that is allowed. MyOtherStruct.MyStruct is unambiguously an int.

Also, has function always been an optional word instead of defining the return type (i.e., I was just thinking about it, in the manual the return types of functions like GetAtScreenXY are listed instead of "static function", and when testing it, I found out I can do it too!)?  Or is this something that slipped through the cracks by accident?

If you look through the AGS editor files with a text editor, you can find the sekrit builtin header, including the giveaway line:

#define function int

Well, welcome at last Jozef and thanks for being the only guy ever to review a Princess Marian game  :=
#3618
Amazon encourage reviews by letting people rate the reviews themselves as helpful or not. If this was done with the games page review then (A) most helpful reviews could be listed first (b) people would be encouraged to write helpful reviews (c) people who wrote lots of helpful reviews coudl get like a star or seomthign against their name, encouraging peopel to write more helpful reviews...
#3619
Josef Purdes does a great job reviewing pretty much every AGS game that comes out on http://www.diygames.com/index.php?p=889&more=1

Its always the graphics library that is the hardest thing to be cross platform, so when Allegro support the new IntelMac, then Chris or someone might start to support it...
