but Captain, meaning "bad" is one step on the way to meaning "good"... look at words like "bad", "wicked", etc. and just listen to some gangsta rap and you'll find plenty of other derogatory words used in a non-derogatory way.

So when I say cool, I mean it's red-hot!

Yes, but it it ~ or ` that starts up the debug console for you?

That's just silly: if computers could be gay then nerds and geeks would have much better dress sense...

Oh my god! What are you wearing? White socks!
I'm not going to start up until you've got yourself some Armani...

Irish people HAVE to like babies because otherwise they face a life of celibacy or eternal damnation!

New-born babies cry becuase they rely totally on other people for their NEEDs: nappies, food, clothing etc. They literally can't do anything for themselves. You might as well say you can't stand quadraplegic people just lying there as say you can't stand babies who cry...

Older babies and toddlers still cry for those reasons, but as they develop they cry if they WANT something but don't NEED it, but they're still not being bad or selfish: an appreciation of others' point-of-view doesn't come in until 3 year old or thereabouts. You might as well say that you can't stand Autistic people...

From 3 years up, if they cry, they deserve everything they get...  ;)

I haven't seen a single AGS game where CTRL-V doesn't show the AGS version along with all that techical stuff (resolution, sprite cache etc.). At first I thought it was part of the global script, but it seems to be hard coded? Strangely, it's part of the debug code as well.

Is it all possible to disable this function? Can it be overridden by another key-press check for CTRL-V?

no: i tried:

if (keycode==22)  ClaimEvent();

and Ctrl-V still gives that info, with debug mode turned on or off. Methinks there is a bug undocumented feature here!

While we're on the debug functionality, can't we have the abiltity to control if it is on or not in a script, so it has to be enabled by password or something? It saves having to remember to turn debug off before releasing...

You can run the setup file for all games and choose to run it in 'Windowed Mode' as well.

Run the setup program and click the box marked "run in a window"... I tend to do that anyway.

Anyway, are you sure that youre laptop won't display them: have you actually tried? You SHOULD NOT change your desktop size before running, you know: the programs dont use the desktop...

Maybe it should be user-configurable, like the CTRL-X etc debug functions are?

Debug(5, 0) for console and Debug(6, 0) for script line?

my ~ key is next to Return, sharing the "#" key
my ` key is next to 1, sharing with ¬ and ¦

so CJ: fix that documentation!

Just been re-reading some bits of the manual and found the debug mode script single-stepping with Scroll Lock and Right Shift. Cool: helped me get a stairs animation right.

However, it took me some effort to get the debug console up. Eventually, I pressed ` instead of ~ and it came up. The "to the left of 1" description was right but the key symbol not! Has anyone else had this problem? Maybe my keyboard is an odd one (HP external keyboard used on Toshiba laptop)  but if others have had this problem, it might be worth updating the help file...

Do many people use these, as I had forgotten about them!

Try this thread titles "How to post Screenshots". You know that the forums do have a search function...?

I think femme has watched too many "impregnation" sci-fi movies... in fact, Hollywood's view of childbirth isn't an accurate representation at ALL. In the UK NO-ONE uses these bassinets all in a sealed-off room like in movies...

Certainly looks like it will be a good first effort, but the title always makes me think Frank Sinatra:

"Razors in the niiiight,
exfoliating stubble.
Razors in the night..."

lastminute.com should be able to give a good deal if you don't care where you go.

We always go for "adventure/history/interesting city" holidays, so we tend to book flights with Easyjet or Ryanair and then find a hotel on  the web. We did the whole interrail thing like that: Amsterdam, Berlin, Warsaw, Torun, Krakow, Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Schwangau, Zurich, Geneva...

Even without all that hectic travel, we went to Venice with Ryanair and found a book "Cheap hotels in Venice and the Veneto" and had a nice cheap place on Burano.

In Paris, we found on the web recommended a nice hotel called Hotel du Lys (Rue Serpente): its only 2 minutes walk from Notre Dame and I would reccomend it.

Much more fun to organise these things yourself!

I noticed that preload.pcx is only displayed as 640x400 in a 640x480 game... funnily enough, it seems to shrink the pic to fit and put black borders at top and bottom...

To answer the original question...

I'm not sure if PR04 will be up to it, but if someone uses the TCPIP plugin and makes an AGS Spy vs Spy clone (lets call it Agent versus Agent for copyright reasons) then that would be teh cool.

If you use IsInteractionAvailable/IsInventoryInteractionAvailable to control cursor types, or which verb is to be used, etc. It means that that hotspot/object/inv/char etc. ALWAYS will have that interaction available, even if later it does nothing (after you've clicked it already, maybe). It would be nice if there was a way to disable an interaction, or if the automatic ClaimEvent that occurs in such situations can be turned off and authors would have to always claim events manually.

Try putting

if (player.walking==0)

in front of the problem line?

Also, are you SURE that that code isn't in repeatedly_execute?
#4697
OK, so if donations are off, how about a competition is organised for a nice digital picture to go on official AGS merchandise and then people can make their own arrangements to get them printed (which seems to be as cheap as any other method, especially internationally). For example:

1. A nice bluecup picture
2. That "Lord of the Onion Rings" pic by Nacho
3. Some AGS characters with a catchphrase...?

Lots of people would love these on a mug, mousemat or T-shirt, whether the money goes to CJ, mittens or some unrelated corporation.

http://fotopic.net/about/printing.php seems cheap for mugs and t-shirts
http://www.pixum.co.uk/ have baseball caps and other stuff

anyone recommend any other printers?

1. Try entering MAGS
2. Base your game on a Photoshop Phriday pic, e.g:

Heh... Torin's Passage. Still sounds rude to me!

Yes, you're right that Scavenger put a lot of hard work into creating a script to help with icon-based dialogs. I have recentlky been implementing my own system and I've done some things slightly differently (using inventory items for the topics makes life a bit easier) but I realise that the way he did lots of things is about the ONLY way to do them and it's a lot of work. Native support would be great!

If we can just get Chris to promise to implement the winner of that category...

for those of you who are interested latest voting update:

42 people have voted. I didn't even have to spam remind all of them! 4 categories have a pretty clear leader, but most of the others could be turned around quite easily.

Just one week left to vote, and still InCreator, TK, Isegrim, juncmodule, DGMacphee, Proskrito and Iqu have yet to vote, despite them placing nominations.

On the other hand such illustrious forum members as m0ds :o , Pumaman :o :o and Vel ;) have already voted and the great Puma has agreed to let the stakes be raised:

PRIZES:

Each FOREGO winner will get a CUSTOM FORUM TITLE!

These 15-character additions to your profile are mush sought after on AGS Forums becuase they don't just come from a post count like they do on most other forums. Previously, only mittens attendees have had the luxury of custom titles!

Now, some may prefer to keep mittens titles if they win, but we'll probably negociate around the titles anyway. Here's my suggestions:

1. CJ can do what he likes with his title anyway...
2. Top moderator
3. Mentor of n00bs
4. n/a
5. Expert scripter
6. Art guru
7. Music muse
8. Best debater
9. Encourager
10. Helpful Hinter
11. Generally Great
