1) Make sure you have AGS 2.56
2) Unpack the zip file for the template into the directory where agsedit.exe lives
3) Run agsedit and start a new game
4) You should be able to select the template instead of the blank one
then...
5) Read the readme that comes with the template
6) Read every other help file,. manual, tutorial etc

Can I point out that the unhandled_event thing breaks completely in 2.6betas due to the new function type checking...

pretty please Proskito, can you fix it?

I think that your browser maybe has cookies disabled... you need them on to log in to the forums

As for the etxtcolours, choose a color from the Palette section, note the number and then use it for your character's speech color (under the characters section in the editor)

HTH!

I think he means that sometime arguments to functions or variable settings called "speed" require a higher number to be faster and sometimes a lower number to be faster: basically, if they were called "delay" instead of speed in the higher = slower case then it would be easier to remember from the tooltip that comes up in the editor when typing in the function.

However, I would generally prefer things to have "delays" than speeds, becuase, for example, the slowest FadeIn isn't very slow.

Dave:  Esteban! Esteban!  That was a good show... along with:

Count Duckula, Henry's Cat, Dogtanian, Rhubarb and Custard, Around the World with Willy Fogg, Thunderbirds 2086, Battle of the Planets, G-Force, etc.

so many of the new cartoons are good quality too: Powerpuffs, Dexter's Lab, etc.

btw when ARE the next AGS awards? I REALLY hope I win SOMETHING this year...

VPXT 1 & 2 must be a shoe-in for the non-adventure award

Well, I hope that Australia totally trash England. It's really annoying watching the sports covereage here and all the English talking as if they are the only team in Britain. Being the first northern hemisphere team to win the world cup would just make it all worse.

Oh for the glory days of 1990...

Just go with whatever you want. If someone doesn't want to hire you because of an odd e-mail address and not because of your talents and qualifications, then they should go to hell!

Given the current state of the job market in my industry, that's not a luxury that I can afford.  :(

I've heard various talks on "How  to make a great CV" etc. from various people over time and lots of HR managers have said that the first thing they do is throw out all the CVs from people who have a silly email address or use their current employer's email address.

In the UK we have an Equal Opportunities Commision that is supposed to ensure quality. They are on the record as complaining that they get double the number of discrimination complaints from men as women and that "that is not why they were set up"!

Didn't I tell you?

*sigh*

Scotland always get our hopes up and fail at the last hurdle.  :(  :'(

Now, why didn't I think of that? Thanks, guys.

However, maybe I'd prefer somehting other than "Productions" or "Entertainment"...

maybe "Development", "Engineering" or "Research"... any other suggestions?

SSH Productions doesn't quite fit with teh chip stuff
SSH Entertainment... doesn't go with the day job at all
SSH Development ... maybe the best so far, but maybe sounds like developing  sshes?
SSH Engineering... doesn't fit with AGS
SSH Research... doesn't reeally fit with either
SSH software... chips are hardware
SSH ware... makes it sound like you can distribute the games as long as you keep quiet about it
SSH I.T....? maybe not!

SSHrewd?
Supershrewd?

While i'm here does anyone know where i can get musical notes for nursery rhymes (in ABC notation if possible) I tried to google it but i was stuck. They were all books to order online i don't have the time or money!

Well, not sure what you mean by ABC notation, but if you look for midis (http://www.midifarm.com and others) and then load them into a midi program you should be able to see what the notes are. Maybe someone can suggest a program that cna output "ABC"?

EDIT:
Maybe you mean (Twinkle tiwnkle little star)

(not sure that is right, doing of the top of my head)

So far, my games have gone under "SuperScottishHero Productions". However, I want to get a domain name and have it match the name of my "game company".

However, I don't want to buy 2 domains (cheapskate!) and I also want to use the email address for any serious job applications, so superscottishhero.com looks a bit silly on a CV...

However, ssh.whatever are all gone, and sshero makes me sound like a WWII Nazi.

I looked up Gaelic for hero: leoch, which sounds OK to me and is free domain-wise, but it maybe sounds a bit like someone coughing and my wife doesn't like it.

I also thought of new names, but I want them to not be completely irrelevant to my day job (designing chips): Narractive is my favourite of these, but it doesn't really fit with chips. If I was juts doing it for chips, it might be something like siliconsculptor..

so, any ideas, folks? Cool logos welcome, too!

Cheers!

Advanced Technical Forum / Alpha-blended GUIs
Wed 19/11/2003 11:03:21
Just a hint to folks: you can work around the lack of Alpha-blending in GUIs by using a character as a GUI! It will take some scripting to ensure it stays in the same room and to hanlde click (probably best kept to simple GUIs) but you could even make an inventory with this system!

Of course, CJ will soon implement alpha blending in GUIs and render this hint nearly obsolete... ;D

Some thoughts I had on this recently:

1. This is a prime candidate for the Tech Archive
2. You could implement an always-on-screen inventory (normal or a second one) by using characters as inv items. Then you would have a thing in the rep_ex to make sure that they were always in the same room as the player, and also you would need to organise their screen postiition yourself, ditto removeing them, so on.

Just found a bug... if you finish, for example, paper chase and click the OK multiple times before the menu screen pops up again, it adds your score multiple times!

Flip me pink!

We actually won 1-0 at home!

Still, we will no doubt be sunk on Wednesday in the return leg.

No best n00b award? That has been the only reason I've been helping folks out in the Tech Forums! Sod that, then!

>:( >:( >:( ;)

Maybe you could have a "best contribution" to each of the forums. Can DGMcP's tech support go unrecognised?
