I'd like to know wher eit is in the manual, too, becuase I couldn;t find it either. I hope that all these people who have posted RTFMs have actually checked that it is there!

On the other hand, if you select a font in AGS257b2 then it's pretty obvious how to do the auto-outlining

OK, OK, There's 3 radio buttons above the font alphabet: No Outline, Auto outline and Use outline font #. Select the middle one!

No there isn't!

by the way, these are my top 5 favourite games:

1. The Adventure of Princess Marian II: Mother's Day
2. The Dark Cave: Adventures of Princess Marian Part IV
3. The Adventures of Princess Marian
4. The Adventure of Princess Marian II: Mother's Day (Directors Cut)
5. Super Marian Sisters

You mean you haven't played the hidden part III?

And my wife only has a half-sister...

Elianto: Don't worry about DG, he' s the AGS forums equivalent of the smelly old bum who sits down on a park bench next to you when no other benches are free. You don't really want them there, but out of pity you don't beat them in to a pulp and tell them to clear off out of your space.

;D

DG: Don't worry about Toefur's and Elianto's orders. Once I release my game, everyone will realise that I am the one to be obeyed and you will all bow down in front of me: so no-one else will give orders but me!

I realise that I have only played 8 AGS games, so my list may not be entirely representative:

1) Pluurrrburrrrg
2) III Spy
3) Buccaneer
4) The Dark Cave: Adventures of Princess Marian part IV
5) Adventures of Princess Marian

Quotehis first wife died when the Pharoah diverted troops from protecting her village to be his personal bodyguard and the village was attacked by the Hyksos.
Could this be possible? I thought the Hyksos were long gone during the Amarna period.

Well, actually, his first wife did die (historically) and I hadn't got around to making up the back-story for that, so please replace Hyksos with an appropriate enemy: Hittites, maybe?

Quote
Anyway, this could become a great game. All the ingredients are there... An insane Pharao, a child Pharao being used by evil Amun priests for their own nefarious purposes, an ambitious general...
Well, I'm glad you like the idea. The Amarna period is ripe for good stories, especially because most of the history was deliberatly wiped out later (by Horemheb, actually)

Quote
And I can't wait to see what you make of Nefertete  ;)

Well, she mysteriously disappeared earlier in Akhenaten's reign, but Horemheb's love interest is her half-sister Mutnodjmet. But maybe we will find out what happened to Nefertiti during the game...

If you just mean that you're looking for a drawing package that will let you draw the sprites easier, using layers in the normal programs like paintshop pro, gimp, photoshop will do the trick: you just make each item in its own layer and turn on/off the visibility.

PureGhost:

Thanks for the inspiration. It was much appreciated. I wasn't really expecting you do redo all my graphics! I doubt I'll have enough time to do great graphics like yours, unofrtunately, however inspiring it is!

I'd really appreciate some help on getting the smug expression on Akhenaten, though

#4949
So, as your programming associate, why don't you PM me for help, silly lady!

I want to do SOMETHING to justify a credit in the game!
#4950
Well, it undoubtedly looks great, PureGhost. The problem is that because it is so very different from the other graphics of the game, and such a style is beyond me, that either you redo all the grpahics for me like that, or I can't use it!

Myself I prefer the first one.

He looks like a real hero in your pic, which is what he needs to be. He is an army general who has worked his way up from poverty and hopes to win the hand of Princess Mutnodjmet, but he has had a hard life and sadness: his first wife died when the Pharoah diverted troops from protecting her village to be his personal bodyguard and the village was attacked by the Hyksos.

*bump*

I've updated the pics at the top of the thread, or you can look at them on my promotional game thread if you prefer:

Sockmonkey (and Steve): good idea to do the game in that style, but I'm afraid that it won't be like that:

a) I've planned many aspects of the puzzles that rely on the traditional perspective view of backgrounds etc.
b) I have enough trouble drawing characters in the style they are already. I'm no great artist, so doing that style is beyond me

Maybe if the game leads me to collaborate with a great artist who could do it, I might consider it, but until someone offers....

PureGhost: I do plan to do a demo, but I'm not sure how long it should be. The game story fits in to three parts, really, based on who is Pharoah. But the first part is pretty long, so if I do that as the demo, then it will be a long time before I release it. I suppose that I could do a first demo, second demo, etc. as I go along.

However, there are still at least 2 more backgrounds and 1 more character to draw befoer I can even start the first demo. Not to mention animating the existing characters.

Have you tried the helpfile?

Your pieces of music will be numbered and you need to place the ogg, mp3, midi or whatever file in the game directory, called MUSIC1, MUSIC2, MUSIC3, etc. Then you cen use the "Play music on room load" setting in the room editor or add a script command  orto an interaction.

Why do dogs lick their testicles?

Spoiler

Because they can!

How many mice does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Spoiler

Two, but the trouble is getting them in there!

As my chemistry teacher used to say: if you're not part of the solution,  you're part of the precipitate...

OK, OK, they're not fresh, but they're classic

I've had this problem too, oh esteemed Pumaman and wondered:

maybe the selection dialog could have an editable X/Y selection corners display so you can either use the mouse or
type the numbers in?
#4956
Toefur: I have EXACTLY the same problem. Look at my games promotional thread (click on pic in my sig) and you'll the the ar I've got so far which took me about a month!

Erwin: I want to make you happy, so I'll let you draw the graphics fo rmy game  ;) ;D

#4957
The game will be finished in 2004 between January and December, probably  ;)

Haven't been able to do much recently, but update on top page now.

My problem is drawing takes me ages, so if anyone want to help animate, I'd very much appreciate it!

bspeers:
BTW, don't you find it ironic that you of all people are calling me a "masturbatory intellectual poofter fuck"?  ;D

He didn't. He was saying that that is what you called me. Maybe you should make an appointment with the optician because you seem to have trouble reading other people posts (and your own, although you have now finally admitted that you said taht Lucas is a talented writer after denying it 3 or 4 times).

And on the subject of arguing, every time I have made a point that you have either called it pedantic, made a personal insult or pretended that you were saying the same thing and tried to make it out that I was arguing for the sake of arguing. I really don't appreciate this, and so this is my final words in this thread. Now you can post something really inflamatory to try and bait me...
#4959
Dear Auntie DG,

I keep arguing with someone I am secretly in love with and picking pedantic holes in their English usage, what should I do?

Hugs and Kisses,

And what I disagreed with about Lucas was whether he was a great writer which IS what you wrote.

No, I said he's talented, which he is.

He has loads of talent in creating a great cinematic experience.
You said he was a talented writer. I assumed that you mean that his talent was in writing by putting those two words next to each other, but you now seem to be saying that he was a writer who has talent in other areas...

Oscars do not a great movie make.

But the majority of great movies do win Oscars :)

And that is the nub of it. The rest of what you said is about Raiders being great becuase lots of people think its great. Wrong way around. Lots of people think its great becuase it is great. Lots of people thought Ben Johnson was a great athlete, but turned out to be wrong. However, Carl Lewis was agreat athlete and lots of pople thought that too. Cause and effect.

Which is why I was arguing.

QuoteBut even that was insignificant when I realised that Cameron was exploiting the people on the Titanic for a FUCKING LOVE STORY about two people that didn't exist.

It's the people of Atlanta I feel sorry for, having Victor Fleming explot their city buring down for  a love story, not to mention all those slave who the war was about...

And don't get me started on all those who died in WW2 being exploited by Casablanca...

Of these, only LA Confidential has any greatness. The others are Sentimental, Depressing and Stereotypical and Sentimental respectively. Are you trying to say that Good Will Hunting wasn't as sentimental as Titanic? It had Robin Williams in it!

By your logic here, One Hour Photo is a tear-jerker :)

I don't see how having Robin Williams in it makes a film a sentimental film.

I wasn't trying to say that all Robin Williams movies must therefore be sentimental, but plenty are:

GWH, What Dreams may Come, Awakenings, Patch Adams, Mrs Doubtfire, Bicentennial Man

Your problem is you automatically assume I'm being derogitroy when I'm not
So, go mock something else, you psuedo-intellectual!

Mea culpa

In fact, let me get this straight: You think Raiders is a good movie, but you're arguing with my points of view on why it's a classic anyway?

You see, your problem is that you just want to argue for the sake for arguing, not because you actually have a conclusive point -- No, no, you just want to pick apart minor details in someone else's argument just because you've got nothing better to do then try and act intelligent.

Well, I've stated the reasons why Raiders is a classic and all exist mutually, as I've said previously.

If that's not good enough for you, fine -- go compile your own list.

But so far, I've responded quite well to all your four arguments-for-the-sake-of-arguing, and my list still stands firm.

See, people like this tick me off -- They act like smartalecs, but never actually come to any conclusive argument thst increases understanding.

Once again, you say "people like this" and you don't know me. And my point was that you are arguing that the effect proves the cause, which seems to have passed you by completely. Argue that Raiders is great because it has good effects but not becuase it won and award for its effects. Howerver, that can be used as evidence that it does indeed have good effects.
