Ummmm.... being prolific isn't necessarily a good thing: it just means yo umade a lot. Now, Speilberg is a great director, but that aint what you said.

But you've essentially proven my point anyway, so why be critical and mince with my words?

It's pretty pedantic if you ask me.

Granted!

Quote
But it's also hypocritical, if you'll read my next response.

QuoteLucas a great writer? His dialogue is infamous.

Then you obviously have never seen THX-1138 or American Graffiti.

Also, writing a screenplay isn't just dialogue -- There's character, story, action, movement and subtext, which are facets where Lucas excells.

Also, keep in mind I said "conceived" by three of the most talenter writers -- Lucas didn't actually write it but came up with the story (One of Lucas' stronger points) with Phil Kauffman.

Lucas is a great ideas man, that I can agree with. That he is a great writer, I find more difficult to accept.

Quote
I find it hypocritical that first off you you criticise me for using the wrong word, then in the next breath you don't properly read my actual words in your next response.

Well, I was trying to check whether you did mean "prolific" as a reason fo rthe movie being great. And what I disagreed with about Lucas was whether he was a great writer which IS what you wrote.

QuoteIs Titanic a great movie?

What's you're point here?

Oscars do not a great movie make. However, I do think that Titanic is great. I could quote awards, box-office, etc. but the reason it is great is this: a huge number of people who saw Titanic went back to see it again and again, not just on DVD or Video but in the cinema. The reason they did this is becuase Cameron crafted a movie that could have ended oh so differently if the just got to Leo a bit sooner and the audience wanted to believe that next time they saw the movie, it would. It was also a tragedy and all the best stories are tragedies. Most people who don't like Titanic do so out of Leo-envy.

Quote
In fact, in the same year as Titanic, you had four great films: LA Confidential, Good Will Hunting, The Full Monty, and As Good As It Gets.
Of these, only LA Confidential has any greatness. The others are Sentimental, Depressing and Stereotypical and Sentimental respectively. Are you trying to say that Good Will Hunting wasn't as sentimental as Titanic? It had Robin Williams in it!

Quote
So your whole Titanic theory totally sucks, SSH, because for every Titanic there's about 10 or 20 other worthy films in the Oscar race (Raiders included) that get ignored by people like you.

I think Raiders is a great movie. I never said it wasn't.

QuoteI count tributes as a total ripoff

This was ironic, trying to mock your assertion that all parodies are rip-offs. Sorry that you took it seriously.

Quote
But let me tell you something: tributes (and any kind of total rip-offs) aren't a bad thing.

Hmmm, backtracking by trying to redefine a derogatory term you used first yourself, eh?

Of course, you can just work with the squared numbers most of the time. Why bother finding the root? If you want to know if the distance is less than 46

if (srq(x1-x2)+sqr(y1+y2)  < srq(40)) ...

or comparing two calculated  distances, etc.

So make sure you're not slowing things down by making things too difficult for yourself!

Be innovative... do a bottom-up perspective, where all the characters walk about ona  glass floor. That would be great and original, and especially if there's a lot of female characters with skirts, or Scotsmen in kilts....

oops, what a giveaway!

Whatever happened to CP/M, OS/360, Multics, Solaris and Atari TOS? I see that no-one's got Windows 1 yet...

Here's another similar thing that has probably been posted before:

Which SciFi character are you?

I Yoda Am.

No, it means that he will wait until everyone in the whole world has downloaded a copy, then sue everyone and become the richest man in the whole world....

I'm afraid that I don't have any empathic story to share, but I did a quick google:

http://www.itsnotyourfault.org/
http://www.lcd.gov.uk/family/leaflets/splitting-english/07.htm
http://www.childline.org.uk/  (or call 0800 1111)

Some seem to be aimed at a slightly different situation to yours, but I'm sure that you could still phone and talk to them.

Hope this helps. Sorry if I missed the mark.

Just struck me, Minimi: if Sam and Moos are aliens (which one is the male one, btw?) then how did their granpa fight in Vietnam?

Ah well, glad that it's nearly done. If you're not careful you'll run out of half-finished projects!  ;D ;D ;) ;) :P :P

I noticed that the "usual suspects" turned up to help out on this thread. It makes me feel like the Powerpuff girls or something. I bags to be Buttercup. TK can be Blossom and Scorpiorus is bubbles.  ;D

CJ is professor Utonium

I think that was over-sharing  :-[

Try it for yourself, you can't use ChangeCharacterView on the same time with something else.

I'm afraid that that sentence doesn't make it clear what you are trying to do. I'm not trying to attack you, but could you please re-state the problem.

Are you saying that you can only change the view of one character per cycle?
Or that you can only change the view once per cycle?

Or something else?

EDIT:

It can be frustrating when things go wrong. It helps to sit down and try and explain a problem as fully as possible.
#4972
So change it every game cycle then. I stil can't see why you can't use ChangeCharacterView.

This is the greatest film you will see this year.

Obviously, this doesn't apply to our forum members under 18. Remember, kids, although seeing sex on screen won't make you want to have sex, seeing violence on screen will make you want to kill someone.  ;D ;)
#4974
Did it take you two tries to get the Counterstrike forum registration question right? :)

Why do you think that the existing functions to change a character's view are blocking anyway? You can change the view and then do otehr stuff with that view still set...

Look at the descriptions of the drawers... maybe each drawer could have something different in it?

Typically, I had to try all of them and it was the very last one I tried...
#4977
Of course, you can have a game which has multiple endings (or even multiple middles) which are chosen based on earlier decisions (such as if to solve a puzzle, or which colour hat to wear, or whether you will hit someone or kiss them...)   Effectively you have 10 or 12 different stories, and what you do decides which one you get.
#4978
But you can name the views, kind-of. Edit the script header and put in:

#define MAIN_CHAR_WALKING 1
#define MAIN_CHAR_TALKING 2

etc.

If you want to compare like with like, then Fatman should be compared to games with a similar level of graphical ability: I think it is fair to say that at least it is in the same ballpark as some of the "Classic" games that m0ds listed. Maybe you don't liek a cartoon style, but then plenty of those classic games had a similar cartoon style.

However, I can buy these games on ebay pretty cheap (if I'm not after signed limited editions like Rodekill) or even in shops in some cases (GF, S&M, DOTT) for cheaper or around the same price as this.

I would say that it is probably overpriced
I would say that Fatman is hardly the best character name ever thought of
The graphics look pretty good to me, but are not state-of-the-art
A lot of hard work must have gone in to it, but the above things are still true

And m0ds, are you seriously trying to argue that if you didn't like Fatman you wouldn't like DOTT, FoA, etc. Not everybody has the same taste!

Congrats to the guy behind Fatman for pioneering the commercial use of AGS and for his hard work. That doesn't mean that it couldn't do with some improvement!

Oh, and M0ds: go and try out III Spy. I think that will show you how much gaming experience Steve has.

Also, there's room for an alpha channel, allowing you to use anti-aliased edges to your sprites. But then CJ would have to be able import PNGs or something like that, and probably totally rework internal sprite storage, etc.
