Competitions & Activities / Re:September MAGS

Minimi,

You have been one of the most productive n00bs I've seen in the time I've been at the forums. You do seem to keep saying or doing things and regretting them. If you stick to posting to Tech forums, Critics Lounge and the Games In production for a while it might do you some good, and your games will get more work done on them.

I think you should withdraw your game from the competition yourself before you are kicked out. You will get more respect that way. It's not as if money is at stake, anyway!

When I was a teenager I upset a lot of people, including my ex-sister-in-law. I may have even contributed to my brother's divorce. That's water under the bridge now, but try to think a bit more before posting in the chit-chat/general forums or on IRC: think "Might this upset someone?" if so: don't do it!

but, it's not the end of the world. And if you spend more time making games and less posting, you will earn respect and make people happy. That's got to be worth doing.

I was a bit annoyed with you myself when you forgot to put my entry in the OQ competition and then didn't correct your mistake after I pointed it out, but it's not important as its only  for fun. Don't take anything that hapens here too heavily!

I think your games look fun and good, so keep up the good work on them!

EDIT: When it comes down to it, the coolest guys on this board are probably the most adult-behaving ones: guys like CJ, Chrille, Dave Gilbert, etc. Hey, sometimes they mess about but I think they're pretty good role models (for AGS-related things anyway: in real-life they're all sad guys with no friends  ;) )

Paranoia is right about having a life, too. I was probably similar to you at 16 (many years aggooooo), but now I've got a wife and a baby. In fact, my games were made for them, so it's all to the good!

Hints & Tips / Re:sticker in III Spy

Spoiler

You don't: you're trying to fake a full moon to scare him (he's a werewolf). The sticker doesn't work as this (and never does) maybe you can try something else...

I'm not sure if this is revenge or if I'm doing you a favour...

1. Why not set up a script under "Enter room - after fadein" in the room interactions editor?

but anyway:
you need to swap the order of yours ifs around: becuase the "else" means it will never find the second condition true!

2. can you post your relevant dialog and main script so we can have a look?

It looks like everybody is at each other's throats: foz and Vel are arguing over a MAGS game, Trap doesn't like to read about HTML tags, Minimi is apologising to everyone and let's not even mention "Symbolic representation of landscape features - o - plural of medium".

To quote President Jack Nicholson in Mars Attacks:

Why can't we all just get along?

No doubt I'll be similarly zapped for this thread  ::)

Though, it is nice to have the second coming of littlewilly.

I can never get littlewilly to have a second coming  :(

by the way, m0ds, Mr Jack, CEO, Chis, Pumaman, FruitTree, DGMacphee and George W Bush are all actually me.

Can people please, including this thread, please stop referring to templates as GUIs: it really confuses all the n00bs, and some oldbies who come across templates for the first time, too!

Thank you!

Critics' Lounge / Re:simple gui

You need the latest version of AGS (2.56) and you use the .agt template when you create a new game and it asks you to pick a template.

Maybe CJ could add something to the "import GUI" thing that points people to the right place for AGTs, as this is about the 3rd or 4th time I've heard this question!

I can help ocrrecting the English if you like. FOr a start, it would be "The Gilbert Case", not "The Case Gilbert"!

I couldn't do much excpet walk around the office, get the gun  and open the window... have I missed something?

Is it the journal in the longest journey that gives summaries of conversation, listing any important details, but doesn't actually have to list evert line spoken. It seems that this is probably the easiest way to do it in AGS, using set-globalint, or run-script in your dialogs (or anywhere else too, of course) to turn on each section of the journal.

But some record of dialogs might be easiest done by incorporating a logging function in the game engine itself, somehow...  oh great Man of Puma

it was putting the pain in the payload that I was missing

Great wee game! Is this your first AGS game, it was pretty well made! Just Micheal Gower's facing direction in the jail is a bit funny when you're talking with him, but otherwise good!

I can't work out what I'm supposed to do with Davy and Elandra and the rocket control panel, or with the sticker on the window

Great game so far, but....

Spoiler

I've killed the vampire and got the snail, salt and various other things, but what more than salting the other lane do I need to do to win the snail race?

I think there should be awards in the following categories:

Best game-as-a-present-for-someone
Most cute game
Best non-use of walkcycles
Best opening sequence featuring scrolling star-wars style text

in which case, I might win some!

I'd just like to re-iterate what everyone else has said:

Welcome to the AGS Community. We like to think of ourselves as tolerant, helpful gamemakers. Hope that you can enjoy making games with AGS.

btw, do you have a website or details of your game: that might spark some interest!

Anyone worked out what his alias was when he was asking for help here on this?
#5058
Well, if you use a room message, just chnage the pull-down box to select the character you wish to have talking.

Or, if you use a script:
DisplaySpeech

As for not having him take things when he shouldn't: make your Add Invetory interaction or script command part of a conditional...

It´s incredible that in some certain moment around our 16-17 years our noses grow in a spectacular way.

It's like Pinocchio, teenage years are when you really have to start lying to impress girls: all lies up to that point by kids are pretty small (e.g. yes, I washed my hands, no I didn't break it, he started it, etc.)

Y unos otras personas save un poco de español: Yo tengo un esposa española, y otras...?

Pero, "Las Naranjas" no es de españa: es un kanguru
