Something like AdventureGamers would be awesome. Oh, there already is one...  :P

Thank you sir, formatoz seems to do the trick!

My wife's phone records videos in 3GPP and I need to convert it for conservative relatives who don't want to install any (possibly dodgy!) new codecs, etc. I tried to convert using MediaCoder, but I don't know what settings for the output file I should use so that they can play it with no trouble.. anyone got any ideas?

He loves it when a plan comes together!

The whole nature/nurture debate sort of negates that the person themself has some kind of choice. Sorry to delve into pop culture but another example doesn't spring to mind readily: take Rachel Hilton on the X Factor. She grew up poor, got a crack habit and had kids taken into care. Now she's sorted herself out somewhat but obviously still has issues. Or take Britney Spears: had loads from when she was small yet her mental state seems to have deteriorated over time. Or even the ex-alchoholic outgoing president. It is possible for people to redeem themselves to some extent but its also possible to let yourself slide into things.

Errr, why wouldn't someone just select the whole area?

I did it in Rock, Rock, Rock. All the characters spoke in pictograms and grunts. Of course, the game sucked, so perhaps its a bad example...

I think its been said before that no AGS function can have more  than 10 arguments...

Didn't we have limericks in the haiku thread for a while?

Anyway, I think others should be able to join in!

Bad rhyming: it may make you cringe
or make your eyebrows combust and singe
But you just have to take it
That I have to fake it
To make anything rhyme with orange

Now, make a limerick with this first line: While out on the Cam in a punt  :=

I've uploaded a new version that works better with newer AGSes and higher resolutions, etc.

Try the new v1.10:

http://ssh.me.uk/moddoc/SimpleSnow

It works for me in 800x600 32-bit.

Did you try re-importing the snowflakes?
#613
I expect that the simplesnow module just needs the dynamic sprite clear colour changing at some point. Change:

RawClearScreen(63519)

to

RawClearScreen(COLOR_TRANSPARENT)

and see if that fixes it.

Also, if you edit a snowflake in an editor using the new double-click AGS 3.1 feature, it gets the re-import wrong. FIx it by copying sprite to clipboard and re-importing from clipboard.

Yes, well ... pointers to custom structs would be easy to add, except for the fact that the script state has to be saved and loaded in save games, which complicates the matter somewhat. It needs further investigation.

How about a new keyword indicating that some variables don't get included in save games. This would be handy for module writers, perhaps, or others who need to create large "temporary" but static (in the C-sense of the word "static") variables. We then have a "on game load" event handler to make sure that you can set any such variables to a safe state. Then you could add "easy to add" complex data types, as long as they were only declared with this keyword. It would also allow people to reduce their saved game file sizes if they wanted to, by setting some variables that didn't need saving to have this attribute. the keyword "unsavable" springs to mind.

An alternate or additional suggestion is to have the "const" keyword added, which allows extra types (e.g. Rick's function jump table).

You thought this was (going to be) a horror themed game?   :-\

That's weird....

What a fool for thinking a game about vampires would be horror themed!

Allow structs within structs, pointers and make functions first-class objects...

oh, and polymorphism ;)

My vote goes to SSH for president. :)

Yes, we can!

I bought Tales of Bingwood a few weeks ago (there's also a demo), and I still have no idea when I'll get around to playing it.

I've played it through and will be writing up my review for AG soon. Beware that there's a patch (v1.01) that fixes a bug in saving games in Vista (i.e. v1.00 can't save your game at all in Vista!)

I'm assuming you're planning for this game to be fairly realistic, ruling out cartoony contrivances like having the character only be able to come out by putting together a one-man production of Oklahoma for his parents and singing what he needs to say to them in the second act.

We know we belong to the land (yo-ho)
And the land we belong to is grand!
And when we say
Yeeow! Aye-yip-aye-yo-ee-ay!
We're only sayin'
You're doin' fine, Oklahoma!
Mum and Dad, I'm gay!

I'm just waiting for the scene in BJ8 where Ben realised that it was Simon who he really loved, not Alice.
