Would be great to have some higher order datatypes built in, like perl or python does: lists, hashes, etc. as well as the ability to build your own. Pre-made ones would be easier for those with less of a programming background. Ideally, if you could access all the namespaces themselves as a dictionary like python can, it would also provide a way for people to make their own savegame mechanisms that didn't get broken for compatibility every time the game is recompiled.

What are you doing with the Dynamic Sprite after that code snippet? If nothing, then there won't be any effect, as you'd need to draw the modified pixel on to something... a GUI, object, background...

That kind of margin of error isn't untypical in such predicitions.

It was, of course, weird the way (in)famous people seem to die on the same day:

With Robin Gibb and al-Megrahi, one was a person who belonged to an infamous organization and caused suffering to many... and the other was convicted of the Lockerbie bombing...

As for the assets, as long as everything in the game is original than you are fine. But if you used any copyrighted stuff (music or images), then you are in trouble. That's the main reason why I couldn't bundle the original freeware "Da New Guys" alongside the new commercial one. The original had way too many copyrighted things in it. The game even starts off with the characters watching Teletubbies. :)

As I'm sure Dave is aware: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oV6efwQPdS4 :)

The 2011 Awards have not been added to the games pages for Gemini Rue, etc. in the games DB

Also, it would be great if nominations as well as wins were also listed and an option to list the games that had noms. And more ways to show the awards info: e.g. list a matrix of awards by person or awards by year, etc.

Thanks to everyone for answering this before I got here  ;)

I'm curious: surely the module thread is exactly the right place to post questions about the module. Surely necroposting rules don't apply to the Module/Plugin forum, do they?

Yes, sorry, not sure how the nbsps got in there, but I fixed it.

I thought you meant that the option shoudl be explicit like: "Use f$%^&ing multiplicative c^^&&! blending"

I had some ideas to turn the walkcycle generator in to something vaguely like this: the idea being that you could easily animate the limbs to do any action by manipulating the skeleton, and that would make animation of any limb-based action with a character easier, but I never got there...

So, if we need another new design in 2015, we better start working on it now  :=

Also, not sure that we're still celebrating 10 years of game making. Maybe could auto-calc that from the date with a bit of PHP :)

I doubt I'll be able to make it, but have a good ceremony, folks!

Of course, you could take the Cluedo approach and let the objects one finds be eliminatory, and only once you have eliminated everyone else can you know who the murderer (and weapon, place if you like :) ) is. Now, the key thing with Cluedo games in real life is that if you want to win, you need to calculate second-hand what clues OTHER people are seeing. Now, if you could work out a way to do something similar in a single-player game, it woudl start to get interesting. I think there was an adventure-ish game version of Cluedo that did the first part, actually.

You should get Benedict Summerbatch to do the voice over for your adverts (in the style of Sherlock Holmes)

Wow, you guys are really doing a good job of discussing things here. I'm a little sad, as this is exactly the thing I would have been up for a few years ago. And now I have management experience in a real software company I would have been qualified, too, but as I need to move country once again and need to organize that over the next few months and then settle in to my new job and a new country, I doubt that I'll have more time than the rare moments I have now to look at AGS.

However, here's my input:

If you want to make high quality games, you have to design testability in from the beginning to the game and to the engine/IDE. Dave G can probably give a wishlist of things that would make testing easier. Even more so there are probably web resources giving advice on this for games (my professional experience if more geared to other areas)

You could just enter the contestant number in a big long column every time they pass the start (one row each time a new contestant passes) and then use =COUNTIF(B:B, <contestant no>)
