No, my birthday is in the summer. But I honestly mean what I say. I couldn't finish 5 days a stranger because of a glitch and because it scared my socks off. (Voodoo doll on a stick part, I had to quit.) I really like these kind of games, but I just don't have the guts. (Luigi's Mansion at nights with the lights off can scare me.) I really hope I have the guts by the time this thing is released to play it, without 2 minute bathroom breaks. It looks easy 10.

This is more exciting than... anything to do with monkey island. It looks really good. You guys should be paid money for this!

The only time I will be able to play this game is on Christmas day at 1:00 PM surrounded by 6 friends and lots of fluffy teddy bears when I'm 18.

...That's really good for a horror game. Trust me.

*almost falls unconscious*
Wow. It... is... coming...

You're on a roll it seems Grundislav.

Well, in Canada, Adventure Games do moderatly well. Has anybody heard of The Adventure Company? They publish adventure games, and some are good. If anyone played Myst, 1-3 and 5 are worth the money. There are puzzles which are so weird, they make sense. I think it's because there are practically NO people. You are always thrust into a situation where you don't know anything. For example:
Spoiler
In Myst 3, you talk to Atrus and BOOM! This guy attacks you out of nowhere! You're only hope is to follow his escape.
[close]

Puzzles which help the storyline (You find a strange machine by an old civilization on "The Island" which happens to emit light when you solve the very easy puzzle, telling you these people know about making light without fire. Sometime no knowledge or very little is the key.

And if anyone plays Benoit Sokal's games, you'll also know that a puzzle can be very logically done. (You need to turn on a machine, but half the instructions are missing.)

But, never EVER "Schizm" it. The problem with Schizm is that the puzzles MAKE NO SENSE. So a key part is definantly situation, and relativity to a situation.

BAD PUZZLE:
You come to a stairway which retracts, and it is reracted. You must pull a series of 12 switches, push 6 buttons, and twist 2 knops to get this stairway to work. Once you do, the stairway collapses but opens a door on it's way down.

GOOD PUZZLE:
You come across an old ruin, and in the centre is a pillar with a clear indentation of a jewel. You found a jewel earlier. When you place the jewel in, a wooden tablet comes out. Everything is writen backwards, which you can also tell. You must use it on one of many reflective surfaces to read it. I mean it can be read using water, a mirror, a really shiny rock. etc. etc. etc. Once read, it can be used to assist you later, AND it tells you some key items about the ruins and it's race.

Old games were good. But I think the community should recognize some new jewels too. Maybe then developers would know what's good.

Worst:
1.5 Days a stranger, using the weird doll on a string to find something in the basement. I think I had a glitch or something because it kept telling me I was in the wrong place! (And I had searched every inch.)
2.Nancy Drew: Danger on Deception Island, I mean, come on. Checking every single bulb with the light at the top to find a working one?
3.Myst 4, family names in order? The books were practically unreadible.
4.KQ5, getting turned into a frog repeadiatly, and having to restart because you get stuck.
WORST OF ALL: "That's a dumb idea." "I don't get it." "That doesn't work." And no further explanation. WHY CAN'T I USE THE GUN ON THE LOCK!? (<Example)
OR:
Random Death

BEST:
1.Myst 1, the maze. I loved mapping the place out. The N, E, S, W really helps.
2.DOTT, a right handed hammer? And: "When you're saving the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs." It made sense.
3.Curse of MI, the lighting. Genius!
4.Teen Agent, infiltrating the evi dude's base.
BEST OF ALL: Human contest in DOTT, spaghettit for hair? "It looks so... meaty-" "-and juicy!"

As I said, certain games are... overdone. But what if something is missing from the story? Something that just HAS to be added. I'm not talking about giving Maniac Mansion a new character, I'm referring to games like The Journeyman Project, or Myst. Things that are already so "out-there" that you can do a lot of stuff with. I think a fan game has a major advantage:
No character introductions neccessary.
They can help, but you don't need to spend time on it. I think there is a lot of pre judgements going around about fan games becuase of all the really bad mario fan games.

I'm working on a fan game, (not announcing in case legal action is taken) and I think fan games are good as long as it isn't an overdone series. Example: Mario, Sonic, Megaman.

This is insane. I wonder what Nintendo is like... or Ubisoft Montreal... I never really liked EA games anyway. I see no difference between Madden NFL 2005 and 2006 (in terms of better gameplay.) Where were those posts from? It sounded like the USA, maybe it's different (or worse *gulp*) here. It's almost scarry.

Moral: Ask tons of questions and get your answers IN WRITING and SIGNED. Then you can sue with proof.

Wow. I didn't think anyone who wasn't getting payed could do this good.

Very awesome game. Lots of good work. I really like the way your using "stolen" graphics. I myself am doing the same kind of "stealing." You keep working, and it'll be awesome. Also, not sure if this is what you want or not, but Jack always has his head downward, and Jane alsways has her head upward. It's an interesting contrast. One looks depressed, and the other looks happy. This looks like it will be in the "Top 10" list once it's done.

So you just make the movies into JPEG or GIF, and use that as an object. You then play sound over that when they talk, right?

Okay. Thanks. Glad I now know how to use this.

Talking about FMVs: Can you incorporate them actually INTO the game. Like in Myst, 7th Guest, or the Journeyman Project? Maybe as an object?

Pardon me for asking, but will this work like the Journeyman Project 3? And I'm not sure wheather I got this right. You have to add the code for every room you want to have a panoramma in right? And the image has to be tall too right? Example:

HIABCDEFGHIAB
8912345678912

So you can look up and down... right? (And sorry for aking all these questions.)

Is it alright if it's only one room?
#117
Heh. You know, my friend just looked at it and said almost the same thing. Sorry, I don't know much about C or C++ or any programming.

EDIT:
There! It now works! I'd like to thank everybody who helped to get this game running.

Nonono. What you sad helped. It helped me find this "else" error. And I made sure I didn't delete any of the "}". Also, here's the error message:
Code: ags

Error (line 93): PE04: parse error at 'else'

Anyways, here's the entire "if" thing you wanted:
Code: ags

70  if (interface == SET) {     // They clicked a button on the Settings Tab
71    if (button == 0)  {  // save game
72      gSet.Visible = false;
73      SaveGameDialog();}
74    else if (button == 1) {  // load game
75      gSet.Visible = false;
76      RestoreGameDialog();}
77    else if (button == 2)   // restart game
78      RestartGame();
79    else if (button == 3) {  // quit
80      gSet.Visible = false;
81      QuitGame(1);}
82    else if (button == 4) {   // about
83      Display("Adventure Game Studio v2 run-time engine[     Copyright (c) 1999-2003 Chris Jones");}
84    else if (button == 5) {  // resume
85      gSet.Visible = false;
86      Mouse.Mode = eModeWalkto;
87      }
88    else if (button == 6) {  // volume
89      SetDigitalMasterVolume (volume.Value);
90      string vol;
91      StrFormat (vol, "%d", volume.Value);
92      volume_number.SetText(vol);
93    else if (button == 7) {  // game speed
94      SetGameSpeed (GetSliderValue (SET, 7));
95      string spe;
96      StrFormat (spe, "%d", GetSliderValue(SET, 7));
97      SetLabelText(SET, 9, spe);   }
98    }  // end if interface SET
#119
First, I'm using 2.7. Second, there is a problem where it says "else".
Code: ags

    else if (button == 7) {  // game speed
      SetGameSpeed (GetSliderValue (SET, 7));
      string spe;
      StrFormat (spe, "%d", GetSliderValue(SET, 7));
      SetLabelText(SET, 9, spe);   }
    }  // end if interface SET

Says there is a "parse error" of some kind...
#120
I've done as Ashen said for a while, yet now I just don't understand this one part of code that is out of date.
Code: ags

      }
    else if (button == 6) {  // volume
      SetDigitalMasterVolume (volume.Value);
      string vol;
      StrFormat (vol, "%d", int Slider.Value;
      SetLabelText(SET, 8, vol);   }
    else if (button == 7) {  // game speed
      SetGameSpeed (GetSliderValue (SET, 7));
      string spe;
      StrFormat (spe, "%d", GetSliderValue(SET, 7));
      SetLabelText(SET, 9, spe);   }
    }  // end if interface SET

P.S. I tried to fix it up, yet now I'm just confused.
