Alright, after tallying the votes, I am pleased to announce the winners:

First place with a golden scroll...
Colxfile!

Second place, with a silver scroll...
TwinMoon and Jeffers!

Third place, with a bronze scroll...
PaulBunyanMM and Dualnames!

And an honorable mention goes to MashPotato for a limerick!

This means the Colxfile will host the next round! Congratulations everyone!

Yeah uhm, I was going to ask people to start the voting and all that, but I've been busy, so thanks for starting anyways.

Good job on your entries everyone!
#23
Thanks Leon. I fixed said bug so now you actually have to have the items in your inventory. And I'm glad you enjoyed it.
#24
Wow, good entries so far! Hopefully we'll get some more before it comes time to vote.
#25
In case nobody saw, I updated my post with the final version. :D

My entry...

Lichdom - "Where did I put that..." (v1.0.0.5)
UPDATE: Okay, I fixed a few bugs here and there. I would fix more, but I really need to get some sleep.  :P

I'm working on something, though I need to really crunch over the next week. Good thing I only have one more exam though...
#28
...huh. It seemed there was more opposition to letting it open last round, so since nobody has submitted yet, I'll change that rule.

Just trying to keep everyone happy.  :-[

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'm on EST.

Welcome to the third round of the Fortnightly Writing Competition!

So me and TwinMoon decided I would host this one alone so that he could enter again. The theme this time is going to be: Scribes

Just so you know, this doesn't mean it has to star a scribe. It just has to relate to who a scribe is, or what they do, or simply be inspired by the profession.

ENTRY RULES:
- Write a story of around 500-800 words
- Entries must be in before June 26th
- Post your entries (or link to your entry) in this thread
- Voting will take place on the 26th-27th of June
- The winner sets the subject for the next competition and starts the next competition
- Top three entries will get a trophy!

VOTING RULES:
- EDIT: Anyone can vote. Originally, I had made a more restrictive rule, but I thought there was more opposition to the voting being open.
- You get two votes, not in any order. (So basically, you give one tally to each person.)
- Voting ends at midnight EST on Saturday the 28th. Any votes made after that point don't count.

Well, I'd like to put in that I think other people should get the chance to vote. Anyways, these are my choices...

Well, here's mine. Please note that it sucks far more than the original 800 word version which I just wrote over the last hour and forgot to save a backup of before I edited it for this 400 word version. So... yeah...

Circuitborne Affliction

It was a few years ago when the droids began to fail. And yet I stand here with one by my side as it struggles to live. The robot hiccups, trying to choke out words. I stare at it as we lean against the bridge, the rain pounding on us.

“Brian…”

“What?”

“How… long…”

I watch the dull flicker behind his eyes as they fight to stay on. “I’d say five minutes.”

“W-w-w… …why?”

I close my eyes, trying to figure out an answer. All around me, they had fallen apart. I couldn’t figure out why. “I built you to last forever. Somehow, no matter what I do, you’re all dying.”

The robot shakily nods. It begins to shudder and I pull him closer. “Brian… will you visit me?” The robot continues to shudder, and I hug him tightly.

“Of course.”

The robot nods as its last power begins to drain, the light draining from its eyes. “Good… bye… Bri… an…” The robot slumps over, dead.

I watch the water beneath the bridge for a while before I decide to bury my friend. I drag him to the graveyard, where I place him in another of the thousands of graves, an entire town of dead droids.

I walk over to my grave and sit down in it, waiting for the sickness to kill me. As I look around at the dirt walls, I find my answer. The top layers are significantly wetter than the dirt below. The rain had only come to this town a few days ago, and only then did the robots begin to die. I feel my arm begin to twitch, and I quickly analyze the soil. The output states that: “The water contains high levels of magnetic minerals along with-”
I shudder as I feel my arm go limp.

“-highly conductive metals. On contact with a droid, the rain-”

My other arm shudders and goes limp. I yell in anger as I try to read.

“-would be drawn inward towards the robot’s highly magnetic core through every crack it could find. The metals-”

I feel a spasm of pain as I lose all vision in my right eye and my legs fail. I moan as I try to read the final line.

“-would conduct-”

My vision pixelates. So close!

“-energy, and short circuit the droid.”

I died.

EDIT: Found a small little typo.

Oh, just a question... when it says we can't use pre-made materials, that doesn't include code for GUIs, right? I mean, it would be pretty pointless to re-invent the wheel (pun!) and code a verb coin from scratch when the template already exists. So I assume as long as original graphics are used it is alright to use the GUI template?
#34
Hmm... I think I'll actually enter this one.
#35
Wow. The graphics style looks really great, and the story sounds like it will be interesting. Good luck!

Wow. Looks like it will be interesting!

EDIT: Also, that's a GREAT theme song.
#37
Okay, here's a more malevolent one...

I do hope that using some of Paint.net's editing and rendering features was okay. Nothing in the rules said anything against it, as far as I can tell...
#38
Wow! The graphics may not be the best ever, but the story sounds great!
#39
Ooh! Nice! You've got great lighting effects in your scenes...
#40
I too, would like to know the results.
