Well done! Great light-hearted entertainment. Great team effort. Cute theme and I loved the game-within-a-game.

Cheers

Hints & Tips / Re: Adventure Island

I haven't played this since 2013, but there is a long hints forum for this: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=48320.0

Perhaps your question is answered there.

I finished the game. Lovely interface! It took about 25 minutes to complete and I had fun.

I just finished playing this game. I'd like to write up a detailed review like I usually do when I finish games I like but there's little I can say without giving away too much of the game for those who haven't played who read reviews despite all warnings.

So, let me summarize my thoughts:

- Good story. It continues where the last game ended and is intriguing enough to compel the user to play.
- The puzzles are excellent. They are fresh in the sense that although they do use some traditional elements, there is a lot of creative and original thinking behind them and at the difficulty level that makes them not too easy but never get to the point of frustrating, so the game flows well. I was able to get through the game with only getting really stuck once as I posted in the hints section and I'm not sure that the game was functioning as it should?
- I liked the 3D animation. I think it's better than the first game. The backgrounds and characters meshed well.
- The humour is sheer genius. The game is crude and offensive and many people use crude and offensive elements just to get some "shock laughs" without much intelligence in the jokes. The humour in this game is the exception and it's one of the rare games I've played just to get from one laugh to the next.

Spoiler
I liked the Back to the Future nod! Funny!

There are some weird scripting things and one puzzle that I would recommend changing (I'll send in PM) but other than that, this is one of the best games I've played in a while and I can't wait for the next chapter.

If you haven't played, then PLAY IT!

As the warning states in the original post and I've said already, the game is often crude and therefore not suitable for younger players or players who find foul language and sexual themes offensive.

Here is what is supposed to happen:

Spoiler
Once you change the password and login using the new password, the browser window will open and the night guy will say "I can take it from here" and the game will exit back to the office.  You shouldn't be able to click on the window at all.  At this point the guy should give you the book.

Like I said what you are describing doesn't sound right so I am going to go back in and check the code.  Meanwhile try logging in and not clicking anything when the browser window appears, see if that does the trick.

What I did differently was
Spoiler
to hack the code in the BROWSER rather than when trying to reset the code from the bypass. When I finally got it, it didn't trigger the guy saying he can take over. So, what I  tried doing was trying to change the password. Having determined the password in the previous step, this should have been easy but the password from the browser did not work in the reset. Anyway, this time I hacked it in the reset screen and I was able to continue

Hm, that actually doesn't sound right.  You might have found a bug.   Let me run through it and see if I can figure out what's going on.

Well, what is SUPPOSED to happen?
Spoiler
once it says "correct password" and the webbrowser opens, now what? go back to the guy and he knows that you got into the browser? is the browser supposed to crash when you click it?

I'm not sure if something is wrong or if I am just stuck on a puzzle.

Spoiler
I figured out the password and got the browser open. It crashes as soon as you click somewhere. I assume this is part of the puzzle. When I go back to the guard to tell him that I hacked the puzzle the only dialogue choices are to ask him how and to give up. I thought that maybe you have to speak to him when the browser is open but that doesn't help. When I go to the bypass and try to reset the password it changes so I have to go through the process again

Am I missing something?

I want to add that I enjoyed the multiple endings and the fact that the player can somewhat control how the game plays out. Canadian content was a bonus, of course, because talking about polar bears and penguins just made me feel that the game was "right at home" so thanks for that.

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Just one comment: I had a bit of trouble using the inventory initially. I pressed TAB and moved the mouse around the screen. Eventually I did hover over the bottom of the screen and found it, but I would recommend that it's left persistent rather than coming and going.

It was fun and lots of laughs! Thank you :)

Shadow: This is what slasher told me when I had the same issues:

"you have use the book from inv and right click it on player to open up book."

Thank you. I completed the game. I didn't really need the book but there are some nice hints in there. I understand that there is more than one way to complete the game. I'll see if I can get some of the alternate paths this time...

Is there a way to read the professor's research notes/book? I've tried using interact, look, using it on myself and no success. It's not clear from the interface how this is to be done and I'm right at the beginning where it says that a certain topic is discussed in there.

Thank you

put the stool to the left of the table, then climb on top. I also went through the process of guessing where the stool goes before getting this one

Truth be told, I did suspect that it had to go in some exact spot. HOWEVER, since the animation is so slow and she walks ALL the way back if you don't get the exact spot, I just didn't bother trying to hit every spot just in case. Especially when I finished the game without it...

I finished the game. Is there more than one way to finish? I never encountered the room with the second screenshot.
- Shadow 1000 in the completed game thread

Spoiler

To go to the second room you need to bridge the gap between the stairs and the door in the left side of the room. See if you can find something to fit that gap.

The second room will contain clues to some of the questions that King Stephen asks. To answer the first question without using the suggestions you would need to find that clue. If you got that one right without having seen the clue or used the suggestion I would be very surprised.

Well, I did
Spoiler
try using the closet door to bridge the gap but anywhere I tried to place it, it would walk right back to where I picked it up, so that isn't it...

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Hjarta

I just finished playing the three mini-episodes and I LOVED this game.

This game cannot be viewed as a game with a detailed or complex plot. As the game description says, it's three mini-games rather than a complete game.

The strength of the game is the exceptionally smooth graphics and animation. The puzzles are fun and designed well. I just found the overall play experience to be delightful.

I know that it's intended to be this way, but it almost feels like you are jumping into a character's life and playing a brief segment of a full story. I suppose that the player is supposed to wonder who the characters are, how they ended up where they are and what happens next. I find that to be a very creative replacement for a complete story.

I look forward to more games from this author!

Gee, whiz! I write reviews and opinions on games; you write poetry!

Well done

No, I'm afraid there is no way to stop the sun from setting, but you CAN escape the reef and sail away before that happens. ;)

Ok so it's a timed puzzle but no obvious counter or way to know that time is running out and once it runs out, the game is over with no way to restore from a save point and no obvious way to know WHY the game is over (I had naturally assumed that I did something to trigger it without knowing what)?
