ok first of all 15-30 minutes isn't bad at all - especially for a nice looking basic background :)
I dislike the blury skies and moon. They should be at least a little bit sharper. The "painted" feel of your work is very nice though and reminds me of works done in "Corel Painter".

To make it look better and more detailed you just have to make brush smaller and smaller and refine everything in iterations :)

Same thing with doing grass - start with shadowy and highlited big spots on the grass and refine them until they look good (ie. like grass) :)

this "simple style" you're talking about is just tile based graphics :) used in most old and handheld rpgs :) Look it up ;)
I like it besides this gray squares on the top of the walls. Try to make in consistent (repetitive but continueous) instead of squares line :)

Blake Gallagher and The Masters of the Universe

this one makes it not narcistic anymore :) Reminds me of He-Man though :3

Yeah it was my fault - forgot to change to the older framework in the settings. It should work on the older ones now :)

Hmm not yet. Sorry, build failed, thought it succeeded lol. I'll try to make it 2.0 compatible - it's still 3.5 now :)

I think the latest version looks quite good!  With personal logos and such, I recommend not focusing too much on what other people like and instead on what it is you want to represent.  If pixel-style art is a focus for your site, this design will work for you as long as it is consistent with the rest of the site. I don't think you need to worry about placing your 'qualifications' in the logo; leave that for business cards or an about page.

Thanks :) You're right :) But it's always nice to hear that it looks good ;)

The main issue that I would see with having the paw image display as a 'hole' in the planet image is that it would look like a ripoff of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy logo:

My god..I didn't see this...I swear it wasn't intentional T.T Now I feel like changing the logo XD

EDIT: Nvm, bad point of mine, actually it wouldn't fit in. Logo is fine as it is.
No, please, I want to get your idea. Maybe I will like it and work something out :)

aaaand another version - I kept the background color but made it darker, also made the lines bit more delicate and I tried Andail's advice - it turned out to be better indeed :) Thanks Andail (I know it's not yet as you suggested but it's closer :) )

It's not bad.. but how about you add a layer behind the planet of a paw? Just quite transparent (around 70% would ne ideal the way I see it)

what layer? what should be on it?

*thinks* I can try bringing it one pixel closer to the planet if it helps ;P

- Little notepad in the editor, so the game creator could easily add comments about the design of the game ("things to do", "do not forget", and so)

This would be a perfect little editor plugin project for someone. An awesome version would include (at least) rich text, the ability to create lots of separate notes arranged in a tree, simple graphics package for making sketches/diagrams which could also be stored in the same tree and manual and readme editors that you could use to compose your documentation and would automatically export (user specified name).TXT or .RTF documents when you built your executable.

Any volunteers?

(I'd do it myself, but I don't know any C# or C++ or whatever, and can't make any sense of the plugin tutorial ;))

Piece of cake :) I can do it :)

EDIT:
without the drawing diagrams thingy. This would take bit longer :) but who knows. Maybe in 2.0 version :)

small version
resized as in the final logo :)
Ok I tinkered with it and made it look better (I hope) it's not great without scanlines but with them I'm quite happy with it (didn't do anything with the small text though so don't mind that :) just comment on the planet)

EDIT:

small
final size
How about this kind of background? I want to make the page like an old computer screen :)

it will be resized to 300% so no worries. I'll probably will get rid of the small text too

Thanks PirateCaine :) It looks lots better now. I'll tinker with it some more remembering about how scanlines change the final version

How about this for a tilted version?
I didn't do any outline shading to fit the text style.
EDIT: Now that I look at it, maybe I should have made it a bit sharper than that.

And I totally agree with Ghost, this is a charming design. Go pixels!
(then again, what answer could you expect if you ask in a retro games community =)

It's cool but as you can see there are some problematic parts that look rigged and messy whatever you do with them :/

Both designs are clever *and* nice to look at, so I can only say that PERSONALLY, I prefer the pixelated look in the first logo. It's perfectly retro. I would get rid of the
gamer/artist/developer text, as it is pretty hard to read and detracts from the logo. But that's my personal opinion- ideally you'd find a way to combine the tilted logo in a pixelated look with the text from the upper logo. I bet some pixel wizards here have some pixie dust to spare?

I love the planet (space) paw. Coolest thing since Thundercats. (hoooooo!)

Awww..Thank you very much. I tend to see all my work as not-so-clever-and-kind-of-ugly so it's nice to hear that it isn't ^^ (although I was proud of planet with moons in shape of paw idea :) ).
I tried to get the tilted version pixelated in few redraws but I can't seem to get it right T.T

And thanks about mentioning the gamer/artist/developer beeing not too clear...Maybe I'll make it bigger or delete it from the logo completely...we'll see.

EDIT:

Here's the no-interlace, no-resize version if someone wants to tinker with it

I'm making my homepage and I'm working on the design, logo and stuff right now. I have some ideas in my head and I made something like this:

as you can see it's a "pixelated" design thingy..I also have not-pixelated logo which is slightly different (tilted) here:

I can't seem to make a nice looking pixelated version like above with this angle..

Anyways - Should I go for pixelated look or make something with the tilted logo? (like fading bottom reflection and stuff making page design more modern looking)

Hahah. Reminds me of 2 games. One where you were a tooth with a toothbrush killing bacteria and heart of darkness  (the black dude :) ) - very nice!!!

Hahah! Interesting! Many good ideas, keep it coming! :3
I'm happy that this contest turned out to be so popular - LA logo turned out to be a good idea :P
