We just spend over a month real-time contemplating a lamp!

Oh yeah we still haven't summoned the magical WHAM-genie for our 3 wishes!

>rub lamp

Thanks Ghost!

The one game I actually did release is rubbish..

I actually really enjoyed Colin Simpson Leaves Employment, so would hardly call it rubbish.

It seems a lot of people are averse to releasing their first game, but there are 2 points I'd like to make:

1) If your game is crap, and you don't release it, how do you learn from your mistakes? You have a huge resource of players here and a fair few decent game developers who will be able to tell you exactly what works and what doesn't in your game and how to improve. Otherwise, your second game will be crap, and your third and your fourth etc etc

2) By releasing a game, you've already done something about 90% of people on the forum haven't done yet, some of them who've been here years...  (roll)

I'd finish your game, ask for feedback from testers in the Recruitment forum (or ask for feedback in critics lounge), repolish, reintroduce to testers / critics and release.

We all start somewhere. My first (and last) AGS Game broke all the rules in the GiP forum, was awful and I never even finished it http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=16295.msg199895#msg199895

Thankfully I lost the source to that tragedy and can move on to my proper first crappy game  :-D

Your 801 wives?  :-D

Pm me a link to the translation file and I'll fix it for you
#105
How are they too difficult for you?

Keep at it, I'm sure you'll get to grips with it. C# is actually one of the easier languages to learn

I believe back when I attempted to make games in AGS I used 2.6 and 2.7x. When 3 came out the whole redesign confused me so I decided to leave it long enough that I forgot everything to do with ver 2, before I got to grips with learning 3.

Now I just dont have the time to learn it so many of my game ideas / designs get left in my book unfinished. They get worked on from time to time, but at this rate we're talking longer dev times than Duke Nukem Forever and FOY combined (and nowhere near as  good as either).

Straying back on topic I think  a lot of devs here use 2.72, purely because of familiarity. There were a lot of big changes in 3.x (the whole editor was rewritten) and I guess it makes more sense to stick with what you know than to relearn a whole system.

It's common everywhere not just AGS. Some people still use XP for instance (on here, probably the same culprits that still use 2.72)

You aren't ready for my desk

Also, what's this game making thing you're talking about?

I had a look at the draconian edition via monodevelop. Only when I saw constant compiler errors that seemed to me to be non issues (an error being thrown because xxx does not have a value set), did I realise how out of my depth I was (I'm barely competent at C# as it is).

Not really a Mac user myself, but I think getting the editor running on osx, even if its just to compile windows exe's at first, should be a priority for reaching new iCustomers.

Does it not work with any of the wine/crossover/etc implementations on Mac?

I'm getting FATHIS, which assuming the ending is wrong, Fathers.

Other than that I have no clue, nor do I understand the context of the riddle if that is the answer so I am assuming that is not it.

It starts with the meeting of two failures.

The big bang

They next bring about two who they thought others would admire.

switching from science back to make believe, Adam and Eve?

But ending wrong THIS had to pay dearly.

Eve betrayed god and humans paid dearly by being able to suffer pain in childbirth

I have no idea, but I think it's something profound, like Life

I wouldn't be able to participate directly, since I work for EA and I'm not technically supposed to work on projects outside work...
Jeez, talk about shortsighted. They should be encouraging hobby projects, not quashing them.

It's actually more common than you think.

These expo prices are way too expensive for a true indie

Shell Casings?? Torn fabric???  8-0

Since we know Wham likes to kill off the protagonist at every opportunity, I suggest the following

>iddqd
>pick up shell casings
>examine tablets (to check for warnings about lamp)
>rub lamp

I fear it may be our only option to save mankind from the dreaded cloth ripper

Ghost, you have an evil lamp? Does it not like being rubbed?  :(
