I think the vast majority of people who pirate a game never intend to buy it anyway.  So it shouldn't be seen as an $18 loss, rather as $18 not gained, that would not have been gained anyway.  That's not a justification for piracy.  I just think of those people who are not going to pay, I'd rather they still played the game and helped spread the word, than not play it at all.

At least as an amateur.  If I were to go professional, and the games were my only source of income, then I might look at it differently.

I'm immature, so I'm always disappointed when I'm playing a parser-based game and 'fuck', 'cunt' and 'bollocks' yield no results.  So if you can include these in your game you will go up a notch in my esteem.

My plan was always to come to this, and I still intend to show my face... but I'm not quite sure what days I'll be able to do.  I'm on holiday for two weeks on tuesday and come back on Aug 11th, but the folks at my summer job are expecting me to come back and work right through 'til the middle of September when I go back to uni.  So I've somehow got to tell them that I'm going to be buggering off again at the end of August.

General Discussion / Re: iPhones

The only reason most iPhone owners have an iPhone is so that they can flash it around in public making sure everyone knows they have an iPhone.

They're the kind of people who come back from holiday and spill their Euros all over the counter in shops saying "oh, you don't want those do you?" just so you know they've been on holiday.

The trouble is so many people have an iPhone, that it's not really as impressive as they think, it just makes them look like wankers.  It's like when mobile phones first came out, and those who had one made sure everyone knew about it, but these days everyone has one and they tend to keep it to themselves unless it's got an Apple logo on it.

Firefox is still detecting your allcomfirmed.html file as a reported attack site.

I like the site.  Just seems right.  I'm getting pretty excited about the prospect of this event  :D

or even 'adventureX-expo.co.uk'
It's available and does what it says on the tin.  Makes use of the X without making it look like a pron site, and includes the word 'expo', leaving people in no doubt that it is supposed to be a geeky affair.

Leon, you are indeed the ultimate solutions guy.

I exported those files to a folder in My Docs and deleted them from the registry.  Then ran the CD again, and it was like brand new, and my webcam finally works again, as if I only bought it yesterday.

Cheers guys. :-)

Thanks Leon.
I've had a look in the registry, and there are indeed some leftover Lifecam entries.

I haven't touched them yet, because I really don't know what I'm talking about, but what I've done is complied a list of all the entries under each of the folders they can be found in:

Does it look safe to delete them to you?
Should I just go ahead and delete both 'Lifecam' folders?

A while ago my computer gave me problems not long after having installed my webcam.  I was forced to restore my computer to an earlier time before I installed the webcam...

but now, when I try to install the webcam again, it thinks it is already there and gives me this message:

"This software version is already installed on this system. To re-install this software, you must remove it first, and then run Setup again
from the installation media. For information about removing a program, see Windows Help."

The thing is... it is not in my add/remove programs list and there are no files on my computer apart from some readme thing that got left behind.  How can I remove something that is not there?

How do I tell my computer to let me install the webcam again without thinking it is already installed?

Thanks.

If it helps, the model is LifeCam vx-1000.  And I'm using it on Vista... on my Advent 5301 Laptop... wearing a red Stranglers T-Shirt and thinking about making a cup of tea.

Why not some kind of Amsterdam-Rome road trip... Maybe hire some cars or a minibus, or whatever, and spend a day or two in various cities along the way, while also checking out the gorgeous European scenery.

I want to see what happens if you burn a flaming efigy of the Pope at the gates of the Vatican.

Nacho, your bringing up of straw men is the biggest straw man of this entire thread.

I agree with Grundy.
I can't see how having a first time Mitteneer as the "host" would be such a disaster.  To me, the majority of their role takes place in the pre-stages (booking a venue, getting numbers, taking money, and sure, maybe looking into some possible activities).

But on the day, when everyone is together and has a few drinks down their necks, the fun should take care of itself.  It's not up to the host to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves, although they might feel irrationally responsible if everyone was having a shit time.  But from what I've heard Mittens is never a shit time, and I dream of attending one year, regardless of who is hosting.

Shall we the the Hostel tour?

I say "Or do I" sometimes if I'm playing at being mysterious.

Haha, yeah, I see what you mean...

...Or do I?

While I would choose Italy out of the two, I would still be up for Holland if that's where it happened to be.  I'm sure the place has much more to offer than weed, which doesn't interest me at all.

Ahhh of course.
I might do the same thing!  My game is coming along nicely at a puzzle/design level, but I just can't do graphics... I can't even do shite graphics.  So I might have to borrow a RON character.

Infact!!! The style of my game kind of lends itself quite well to the RON universe... perhaps I should make it an official RON game.

Yes, 'me either' isn't really correct, although I often hear it in American TV and cinema.

Think of it in these pairs... and stick to them if you want to please the pedants.
*either/or
*neither/nor
('either/nor' and 'neither/or' are grammatically not incorrect. Please avoid ;))

e.g.
* You can either bat or bowl, but not both.
* Children should be neither seen nor heard.

So if something is negative, i.e 'I don't like old people', you would say "me neither", not "me either"
Just like you would never say "Or do I", but you would say "Nor do I".

Both pronounciations are interchangeable.  I'm pretty sure I use both and I don't even think it's especially regional.
