Messages - The Outer Zone

#21
Sad to hear people are dropping out.. but I totally understand. Making a game in December is pretty tough  8-0
I'm struggling to get done before the holidays myself. But I think I'll just make it  :)

Here are my character portraits:

Alma - the player character.

Thank you :)

@TheFrighter: Yes, it's meant to be "somewhere in Scandinavia".

The Goat Crone
An occult Christmas tale of family love and dark rituals.

Is now available here:
https://theouterzone.itch.io/the-goat-crone

Alma has to prepare the yule ham while her father is out in the forest.
But the nightmarish myth of The Goat Crone haunts her and her baby brother.

Feedback is much appreciated.
Enjoy  :)

I am running a tight schedule as always, but I'm on track so far. Here is a little sneak peak of my game "The Goat Crone".

The background for the first scene:

Good to see so many people joining in once more :)

My game will portray a dark christmas. Taking place in the late 1800s. A small family in the woods.
And a yule demon.

Wow! Seven great looking games 8-0
I have to play these! I don't really have time as I am busy making the next MAGS.. but I will try :)
#28
Christmas huh?..... okay I'm in :-D

I'll find a clever way to continue my Tales From The Outer Zone series on this topic..
It can surely be done... somehow..

Better late than never - here are my comments on the games!
I did remember to vote in time though :)

Really nice to see what you did with the theme :D

Colonel Carvers Carnival Curios by VampireWombat:
Spoiler
I liked the theme of quitting - I would have loved to explore that further.
And the mirror room was nice. Good idea with voodoo doll as the "miniature".
A strange little experience as always :)

Dr Chuckles' Miniature World of Madness by Slasher and Mike G
Spoiler
Best Slasher game I've played so far :) The story and scenes use the miniature theme really well.
Maybe a bit too many clichés for my taste, but the whole concept was nice and the story well told.
Also good to see a consistant artstyle.

Captain Downes and the Pirate Princess by Blondbraid
Spoiler
A fine adventure indeed! Too much pixelhunting though..
I tried out everything for some time before the curser found the seam (I didn't see it at all).
I wish it was a bit more obvious what had to be done.
Building the weapon from the curiosities was great :)

Thanks Selmiak. You can order the hat for 59.99 at my online shop.
It's pretty heavy and annoying, but gives a good boost to charisma.

Looking forward to play your games!
When I'm done playing, I will give a comment as usual.

Looks promising! Good job everyone :)

Hi TheFrighther

Thanks for asking.
No, I am not a psychiatrist - nor do I intend on portraying realistic psychotherapy or include any real statements on psychology. It is important to state that this game is purely fictional. I have an interest in the subject, and this game simply displays my own personal and artistic reflection of the ethical dilemmas that occur in psychiatry. It is a serious subject, but by taking the subject into a surreal sci-fi world, I hope to create a game in which the player can dive deep into the human mind and explore the ethics of psychiatry without hurting anyone outside the game. It would be interesting to get a real psychiatrist to do some research on the project, but in the end, the results would just be the theories from one person. So I choose to move away from history, and say that any research on the subject will only be used as inspiration.

Cheers,
Malte

Thank you CaptainD :D

It's far from release though (the post is in "AGS Games in production") ;)

You are a Mind Scanner.
You analyze and treat patients in The Structure - a retro-futuristic metropolis and regime.

Being a skilled psychiatrist, The Structure has hired you to normalize the "abnormal".
You will be faced with ethical dilemmas and will soon start to question your own beliefs and sanity

The game features point-and-click exploration,
but is more of a visual novel mixed with simulation/boardgame/management.

While being inspired by the absurd treatments and methods throughout the history of psychiatry,
the game is purely fictional, set in a surreal world outside time and place.

The game is in beginning of production, and I am currently looking for a publisher to help me fund the game.
I made a prototype in AGS, but the game might be moved into Unity - we'll see.

Mind Scanners is set in the same universe as CYBORG SEPPUKU - a game made in AGS for MAGS AUG 2018.

Follow the project on my twitter.

Yeah I think you are right VampireWombat..

But I strongly encourage anyone to make a game in the last day.
A miniture game. A one line game. One punch to knock us all out!
Would be nice to see :D
#36
All your games sound interesting - I am looking forward to see the results :)

I hope to see a lot of games.
Remember that the theme is miniature.. so  a miniature length would only be a plus :D

Cheers,

Hey miniature makers

How's it going with your adventures?

Nice to see the test from Blondbraid :)
Anyone else want to share their tests, sketches or concepts?
#38
This one was hard - all three games are quite good entries.

Here are my notes and vote:

Sweet Mythery by VampireWombat

Spoiler
A nice little medieval tale of an errandboy. I would cut the forest down to one screen - it's not that interesting to
walk back and forth through repeating backgrounds. If you want to make the forest "bigger" then perhaps put more background elements in?
I like the thought of a fully fleshed out game of running errands in a small village :)

Jason and the Golden Apple by Slasher

Spoiler
An adventurous and mythical journey. I see the point of using pre-made assets if you're not
an artist, but mixing pre-made assets with a classic "pre-made" story might be too much? I am not sure, as
the result is actually very much a Slasher game :) But I would prefer something more personal perhaps..
The game has got a nice length and pace, and the sense of adventure is there for sure!
I love the shot of Hera and Zeus overlooking the seas!!

Here be NO Sirens by Kastchey

Spoiler
I like the story of the washed up sailors - that's great :)
The game is sort of divided into two parts: first you talk a lot and then you fly around and make the potion.
Perhaps it would be better to spread out the dialogue? (I'm guilty of doing this myself). A bit annoying waiting
for the siren to fly to the same spot each time she picks up an item. Though it's nice with the "one item at a time" thing.
A fresh little adventure. Good length for what it is. And really nice water lapping animation :)
