I'm working on an LSL3 conversion to point and click, have been since February, It is more than halfway complete, a beta will be released soon for some lucky testers.

This has been quite a major project so far, it is mainly been to help me in solving problems and learning AGS in more depth, (which is working quite well), And to get some experience in putting a large project together, before I take on my own. Although if any one wants to make a VGA version, Go right ahead, You can even get help from me with the coding.

Just be warned, you will have to make at least 80 backgrounds, I'm not sure of how many sprites yet but probably at least 4000 - 5000. It is quite a major project to take on, unless you have as much dedication as Tierra (and a decent team) good luck to you

Edit: I did mention it on this page.

http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=8;action=display;threadid=5371;start=msg69674#msg69674

although it will probably take longer, early 2004 depending.

and I brought it up in this thread a while ago

General Discussion / Re:the diet...
Mon 15/09/2003 08:40:40
I don't really ever diet, and I also don't eat that healthily either, I weigh about 60kg at about 5ft 9. I did get up to about 75kg at one stage a couple of years ago but that was due to drinking too much beer, and eating too much fast food over winter. I was technically in a healthy weight range for my height, but these studies are all bullshit, they don't take into consideration how small your bone frame is or how much of your weight is taken by muscle or fat (I'm talking about silly graphs that even include weight ranges for small medium and large builds) I know my personal healthy weight range is 60-65kg.

I reckon the beer puts on more weight than fast food.

I see some people are trying to turn fat into muscle, it doesn't quite work that way, you can reduce the size of your fat cells, or put on muscle bulk, but it is chemically impossible to turn fat into muscle.

And as far as healthy rate of losing weight, 1 to 1.5 kg per week is healthy, any more than that and you will start to have health problems.

(note: dehydrating doesn't count, and can be very dangerous, you can loose a few kg in water after heavy exercise (or taking diet pills), but you put it back on when you drink a few litres of water. Most hollywood fad diets do this to you, so you think you are losing weight, that's also why you put it back on, straight away.)

All the advice here is pretty good, just eat regulary and healthily with some exercise. If you eat large portions of food, serve out smaller portions and still eat at the same times, don't add salt or sugar to things as there is usually enough natural salts and sugars in most foods.

It's all easier than you think to achieve, you just have to be concious about it, and don't expect to see the results immediately.

Also remember that you don't just go on a diet, if you want to keep a constant normal weight, you can't just say "Oh, I've lost weight, now I can go back to what I was doing before." A DIET is what you should keep up for your whole life, A healthy diet means a healthy body.

If only I hadn't been smoking for half my life.

General Discussion / Re: Cars
Mon 15/09/2003 07:50:46
My first car was a '84 Mazda 323, red (goes faster) I got that in '94 and it died in '98 in the middle of the express way between Sydney and Newcastle.

I just recently sold my precious '74 Toyota Corolla, poo brown, still original (pretty good for a 29 year old car) it was sad to see it go, but It started to get a bit of rust and I didn't think it would pass it's rego in September. Damn it I can't find a photo of it. It had done 180,000km (which isn't much in that time) It was my second car, I got it in '98.

I bought an '89 Daihatsu Charade, which is a small car, it's silver, gets from A to B, economical and reliable. I just put in some new speakers and amplifier. Makes driving around much more pleasurable. I love driving, and would love to be able to just drop everything and Drive to North Queensland.

I don't know how I'd handle not having a car.

General Discussion / Re:What is Kiddy?
Sat 13/09/2003 17:47:04
This is an interesting topic and I'm sure there has been plenty of studies done on it. I'm not sure if what I'll add is relevant to what answers you want but,

There is a definate skill in writing for kids and adults within the same story line, and at the same time, entertaining both. The Simpsons is the best example I can think of.

Where the story can be very adult , but it is constucted in a way that is not understood (or obvious) to kids, but gives enough to both sides of the equation, to remain entertaining to both.

Maybe the reality is just that it's hard to tell where the line is where certain kids will begin to get the double meanings.

What is Kiddy??????

it is an undeterminable age between kids and tweens

After that though, the more high profile the country leader, the more problems the country developes, it would be hard to name every Prime Minister, President etc of every country of all the AGSers, unless you're some freek or a google nerd, plus I think Howard does a good job for Antarctica.

That's funny vel cause when this thread was alive, KQ2VGA was probably not yet released, and if it was, probably not long enough for peope to comment.

Hints & Tips / Re:Altering a game
Fri 12/09/2003 14:14:14
Yes I had the same problem with the same part, it worked with moslo, or turbo on my pentium2, but on my AMD athon 1500+ I couldn't even slow it down enough, it is a timer issue, which just goes to show how little developers thought about the future when developing games.

Who could have predicted it anyway, but it's funny that lucasarts games have never had the same problem. maybe they knew more back then.

My advice is to play it on an older computer if possible (with something like turbo) or just pretend you finished it seeing as it is about 5 mins from the end.

since we ahve a lot of AGS'ers from other countries here.  are there moments of silence planned?

In Aus we didn't have a planned silence (I'm sure various unplanned one's occurred), except on a political satire show we have here called CNNNN, they had a silence (the one with the typical mobile phone going off)

That was a good read Dave, it's interesting to hear different stories from different perspectives.

Even though I've never been to New York, I still felt something strong that day, I was quietly playing Goldrush when the late news came on at 10:30pm on 9/11 (which in Australia we call 9/11 even though the way we write that date would be 11/9) Then they crossed live to new york after the first plane hit. I was watching in disbelief as they thought it might be an accident. as they where talking, in the background another plane hit, it was all just surreal and I was glued to the tv till 5am not knowing what to do. I saw it all collapse live, and even saw people jumping out of windows.
I just couldn't imagine what it would be like for people trapped.
Those sirens were the most eerie sound I think I've ever heard, I wonder who comes up with these sounds, they really know how to set a strange mood.

There was a definate change in the world that day, even though the people of New York may think it mainly just effected them, that is deffinately not the case.

Loss of lives will always be remembered by their loved ones, whether it be a natural dissaster, tragedy, or time, it is just the natural order of life, mourning is a process that is handled differently by everyone, but is a process that feels different as time moves on, you look back on certain events you thought you would never get over, but at a certain point you can look back and even laugh sometimes (even if you feel guilty)

Sad to hear that your Grandmother died too Dave, but I'm sure you are happy knowing she had a fullfilled life and a loving family, My grandfather passed away a couple of months ago, and the funeral was a really strangely happy time, I learned more about him in the eulogy than I had in my whole life, and he had an interesting life.

I also found out that day that my family dates back to Irish Pirates, I'll have to learn more about that one day.

Sorry to get off topic but this thread brings up some strange memories, which makes you think about life in general.

We Remeber!

Sure LGM has been a bit of a dick, but public humiliation like that, as much as it is funny, is just as much being a dickhead back in the same fashion.

sure you'll probably get your point across, I just prefer subtlety.

as for Sars, yeah, I remember her from school

As far as I remember, that bit comes later, for now you have to get the ticket for blimp, or fly the plane

I shave once a week unless I feel like growing a goatie, then I just shave the sides, I'm not a hairy chap, I'm 27 and I don't have chest hair[appart from a couple round the nipples] (means I'm a more advanced human species, since we developed from apes we have got less and less hair)

I could shave once a day, but I don't see the point, and I like a bit of stubble, my mum always tells me I look like a hobo.

I didn't need to shave until I was about 20, and I was so keen as a teenager to grow a goatie but I couldn't, it just wasn't fair, now I couldn't give a fuck, and shaving is just a hassel.

I'm more likely to shave before going out to a night club, most chicks prefer a shaven man, but sometimes a chick likes bit of stubble.

So what about Chicks shaving, they have a harder task if they could be bothered, under arms, legs, pubes, face, what do girls prefer? I know that the younger generation of women these days are more likely to have a Brazillian, (well in Australia anyway, probably Brazil too) I guess it's a good novelty.

Obviously everyone has different genetics, and reasons for shaving, after all it is only hair. (being judged by hair can seem pretty silly)

This is what you will need to do.

SetObjectView(int object, int view)

eg. SetObjectView(0, 5) // where 0 is the room object number and 5 is the view number.

then

AnimateObject(int object, int loop, int speed, int repeat) //the explanations are in the manual.

now where to put it in your script totally depends on what the animation is for.

eg. if you want the animation to repeat continually in the room, put something like this in, before fadein - run script:

SetObjectView(0, 5);
AnimateObject(0,0,5,1);

by the way, I think you need to have at least 3 frames for the animation to work.

if you want it to animate when you click on a hotspot, go to the particular hotspot in the editor, click on interaction, then choose which interaction (eg. interact, look etc) then choose run script, then put something like:

SetObjectView(0, 5);
AnimateObject(0,0,5,0);
while (IsObjectAnimating(0)==1) Wait(1); //waits for the animation to finish.

Also for the above one, you can do the same if you choose interact for an object, or character etc.

There's many other places to put animations in the script, it just depends how you want to trigger it.

This will help, just experiment with it a bit and I'm sure you can work it out. If you need more help, make sure you're more specific in your description.
