I'm not game to watch the video as the content has been explained and I don't think I need to see it.

It's terrible what some people will post on the internet and hopefully they are just making it easier for themselves to be put in Gaol (jail for the US people)

There was a story this week in the news about a Bunch of kids from a town in Victoria, Australia that were selling a video they made, on the internet where they went around terrorising people and sexually assaulted a teenage girl, urinating on her etc and some have been expelled from school and I'm sure it wont be the last we'll hear about it. I'm not sure what will happen to the boys, but I'm sure there will be court cases.

The innocent victim is the one that will suffer the most, especially as it is probably going around the internet as we speak, so appart from the trauma she went through, she will probably be reminded about it for years to come.

None of this type of filth is funny, it's criminal activity that should be punished.

I found that more entertaining than most of the comedies on commercial TV, Good luck with it, I'll have to look for the other episodes if they are on you tube, and I'll head back over and comment.

Very sad, I  don't think gun laws would have made it any different, it seems to be one of those one off odd killing sprees that only the killer knew what he wanted to do and had probably planned it long ago, and any intelligence could not have known it was going to happen.

Just on gun laws in any country: gun laws can make it harder to get weapons, but if someone really wants a gun they can get one in any country, there is a huge black market out there.

I know one of my friends got a gun just for the sake of it years ago, he's also on medication for bipolar disorder and he wasn't on medication then. It was a bit freaky but he did get rid of it.

Another one of my friends bought a gun illegally, and it was the same gun that the cops carry around here, His house was robbed, and that was one of the items stolen.

Media does have a lot to do with making these things known a lot more these days. There are quite a lot of Drive by shootings in Sydney, Australia these days and a lot of them don't make the news, I don't know if that's to make it seem safer or they are becoming that common that they don't make a story. This is a more recent trend and seems to mimic LA. But stats will show how many more shootings happen in the USA than anywhere else by such a huge margin that it's just obvious that the less guns there are, the less people will resort to using them. Simple as that. (the stats I'm thinking of were in Bowling for Columbine I think, not sure on specific numbers and can't be bothered looking it up)

I've got a friend out here at the moment from LA and some of his stories are quite scary, even stuff about the competitiveness of gangs in other cities to make their city the most violent. It's like a competition, and the media drives it.

One of my mates from here was visiting some friends in Detroit a couple of weeks ago and there were quite a few drive by shootings while he was there, one only 2 doors down from where he was staying. The last time he was in Detroit last year, his mate got stabbed repeatedly in the neck with his own carving chisel in his own hotel room, luckily missed every major artery by millimetres.

They changed the automatic weapon laws here (Australia) about 10 years ago after a guy massacred random people in a famous tourist spot in Tasmania for no reason, including small children. He didn't turn the weapon on himself either, and chose a spot that he could not possibly escape, a piece of land only attached by an Isthmus (thin strip of land surrounded by water connecting 2 larger bits of land)

There was another massacre in a shopping centre in Sydney about 10 or so years ago as well which was another reason they changed the automatic weapon laws.

I don't think there has been any other major shootings like that for quite some time now, just a lot of gang related one off shootings and domestic shootings, but it's a sad world out there and getting worse. I do feel safe walking around the city but sometimes you hear about a shooting that happend outside a place you were the week before, it seems like only a matter of time before you actually see one and hope you are not unlucky enough to be in the way, It would be pretty unlucky though.

Today I posted in this thread raised a point and posted pictures in the same thread, but it was the last post on the page so people may not see the photos so I thought I'd give people a chance to see them so I put the photo's in a new post

I just had the last week off, didn't get up to much but I went on a walk just within my local area, well it was a 25km (15.5 mile) local walk and that was after catching a train and ferry to the start of the walk which eventually ended at my home.

The walk follows a river that enters Sydney Harbour called the Lane Cove River, it's a National Park surrounding the river but it is a very narrow park as the river is closely surrounded by residential and industrial areas aswell as a few business parks.

I'll start off with a google earth map just to give you an idea of the path of my walk

The ferry trip from Circular Quay which is the main passenger ferry port in Sydney

The view from Woolwich, the suburb I caught the ferry to, The Lane Cove River enters the Harbour at this exact point from the left side of the photo

Just a view down the river

A raised board walk over a Mangrove swamp

Here's a couple of businesses close to the river

The walk does pass under a few Major roads along the way, This is actually one of the worst traffic spots currently in Sydney, It's been a construction site for quite a few years now, It's called the Lane Cove Tunnel and will possibly open sometime next year.

The suburb of Chatswood which is visible from many places

Just a nice little wind in the river as it gets narrower

The next couple are one of the reasons I went on this walk, this is an Eastern Water Dragon, which is a Lizard found all over the east coast of Australia, they are quite common and found in and around rivers and creeks. They are pretty good swimmers too as you may guess by the tail. They can grow up to 1 metre in length and their tail is about 2/3 the length of their bodies. When they want to run fast, they run on their hind legs.

Lazing about on a log

This was towards the end of the walk near my place looking back over where I'd just walked

After a 7 hour walk, I made it home. Hope someone finds it interesting.

Today I contemplated creating my own thread to display some photo's, It happens quite often, people posting pictures of holidays etc, which aren't necessarily appropriate in the post your picture here thread cause they are not of you.

I thought about starting a thread called the "Photography Thread" which strangely doesn't exist. After a few searches there is a bit of stuff about photography, about cameras, about a photography comp and pleanty of people getting crits on their photography in the critics lounge but no thread for general photography.

Just thought I'd bring it up here incase people think it's a good idea, Just a thread with general photos like the post your picture here, where you can post scenery, holidays, adventures etc. but I guess not as many people will actually read this so this text and post may just go to waste.

I heard on the news from an interview with his manager that was with him at the time, that he was swimming above the stingray, and it hit him in the chest with its barb, straight into his heart, they got him onto the boat, and were trying CPR all the way back to some nearby station (30km away), but when they got there he was pronounced dead, they think he died instantly.

It was just a freak accident.

he also said it was ironic that they were filming a documentary that was called something like, 'Most Deadly Sea Creatures'

It's the 3rd recorded death from a Stingray

Yeah, very sad, It was only a matter of time before something like this happened to him, but if anyone was aware of the dangers of most animals, it was him, However animals are unpredictable.

The worst part is leaving behind his wife and 2 young children, it will be a sad time for them.

But he has done more than just make documentaries, he's poured his massive earnings into world conservation, charities etc and what he's done will live on.

A very rare generous genuine person, with a lot of character, he will be missed, RIP

It's always good to see sports getting more competitive worldwide, the game would never progress if the USA kept winning.

From some memory, was basketball derived from some ancient Greek sport?

Sorry to double post, although it was almost a month ago

I was just experimenting with Photo Story 3, a free microsoft program that you can make video slideshows out of photos, set them to music, add commentary etc, it's not a bad program and really simple to use.

I made a couple of videos of a little trip to Fitzroy Island within a holiday to Tropical North Queensland in Sept 2005

This is the shorter version, with a kickass soundtrack of the Fireballs, who have reformed after 10 years and I'll be seeing them next sat night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM8SJR9naUQ

This is the longer version, more viewing time for the pics, and I used the built in music generater program for the soundtrack, not bad but it probably sounds like bad pron music

I'm just wondering how long it will take before planets get renamed due to corporate sponsors.

I was just thinking the other day, "I wonder if they'll ever be able to project something on the moon" I'm sure they could send up some satelite projector and have an image big enough that we could see from earth. It would be totally going too far though. Virgin Moon

As far as Pluto maybe not being considered a planet, it's still a rock that orbits the sun, it's not like anything is going to physically change. I remember seeing on the news the other night they were going to honour Pluto by having another class of smaller planet type things and call them Plutons

It's been a long time for me, but the last course I did I got straight A's passed the course with distinction, and don't even work in the field I studied.

Hope everyone did/does well, but don't worry if you don't, there's always other avenues and other years to do what you want, the biggest thing is knowing what you want to do. (which I still don't know at 30)

I'm an 'in my own world' kind of poster, I read a lot of posts and rarely post these days. I have no idea if a lot of people even know who I am, but because I read threads that interest me, I feel I know people that probably don't know me. I make random posts in topics that I feel like posting in, sometimes try to be witty, sometimes I give helpful information, I've had a post deleted when I've been drunk. I stay away from pointless religious threads, occasionally post in political threads but stay away from them most of the time too. I rarely start topics, usually just try to find a similar one to slot it in. Just like in real life, I try to stay out of the mainstream here too.

I suppose you can try and categorise posters, but most will just be a combination of whatever categories you come up with.

I don't know if has been posted before, there are no matches on the search but who knows, so I wont start a new topic just put it in this thread.

I'm sure people have seen it before but you've gotta check out this cartoon "Salad Fingers"

There's 7 Episodes, the first is like a pilot I guess, but it's really creepy, twisted, innocently sick, cute and a bit random, very much worth a look

General Discussion / Re: I have lost my job.

Interesting how people just start off mentioning moving a family to to another country, It's not even nearly as simple as that, I can't speak for Slava, but there would be many things to consider.

The first being maybe you are happy living where you are

You have to consider the feelings of other members of the family before taking them somewhere foreign which may be away from the rest of their family and friends

The cost of moving a family overseas.

debts and/or mortgage you have already

moving somewhere unfamiliar

the time it would take to get a job overseas, get visa's, move a family, find a place to live and afford the time off to establish all that, without starving to death first

I would imagine that there are also other hospitals in Saint Petersburg, and if not, other hospitals in Russia, and it would probably the first option before looking overseas. Even finding another less skilled job just to get by for a while.

and since Slava hasn't replied, I guess it means he's looking for a job.

Good luck Slava with whatever happens

I filled in the gaps of my adventure game collection a couple of years ago using ebay including the cd version of Monkey Island 1&2, I can't remember what I paid for it but I don't think I paid over AU$50 for any game including overseas postage.

just a quick look on ebay and you can get it for less than US$50 even with 'buy it now'

here

or here

but you could probably still get it cheaper than these

General Discussion / Re: World Cup 2006

Besides, the penalty for France was pure diving and it was only fair for Italy to win in the end. Throughout the entire World Cup, Italy has been the best and most solid team.

I guess you didn't see the match between Italy and Australia, Italy did the exact same thing in the 95th minute to get  a 1-0 lead and through to the quarters.

But their defense was very strong throughout the comp, before the final they only let in 1 goal and that was an own goal against the USA, the only other was the penalty from France (plus the 3 penalties in the shoot out, but that doesn't really count) so they didn't really let in any legitimate goals.

But this is the trophy that should have been awarded
