Competitions & Activities / Re:MAGS - JUNE

I think it's a bit silly to be able to see who's winning cause it will persuade people to vote a certain way, which will change the result completely.

Surprise is a must

20,000 km is a lot as far as I'm concerned, I use the metric system, I drive more km than that a year, but to do it manually, that's quite impressive, I bet most AGSers sitting around computers would feel quite tired after riding 1km.

I play cricket in the summer months, I'm a bowler, so it requires more fitness than a batter, but I can bat a bit too. I just enjoy the outdoors, competing is fun, but I try not to take it too seriously, but do play seriously.

I checked the site and it will indeed be able to open QG3 but not just yet, probably not that far off, as for ultima, I have no idea, I did a quick search, you may find some info here: http://reconstruction.voyd.net/index.php?page=projectype=engines

I like watching a lot of sports (and playing them), I can also see how people can be interseted in cycling, I think stamina sports are the hardest to compete in but just as hard to watch.

I prefer finding out the results rather than going through the agony with the performer, plus I feel guilty that I'm not performing as hard as them.

It must be one of the toughest sporting events, I can't think of anything that goes for that long in any other sport (golf doesn't count, cause that's many events combined to get a result [plus fat bastards can play that game])

day what????
underrated??

Exactly my point, it is more popular in europe, and should be recognised more, but it isn't, this thread is an example, but it's not exactly adventure cycling studio

I guess cycling isn't much of a spectator sport, nothing that a minute of the news can't cover.
#1306
I guess no one is interested much in sports here (other than that soccer game)

Cycling isn't much of a glamorous sport outside Europe (or even in europe, I have no idea) but it is (Tour de France) one of the most challenging events for any sports person around.

Lance Armstrong isn't that well known globally, although I do know of him

I never really follow this event but I do hear about it cause the Aussies lead for the minor rounds but never hold on to win it. The winner is the sly bastard that hangs back and performs when it counts. (therefore they are a superb athlete that has unbelieveable stamina, and can perform best over the whole course)

Globaly a very underrated event

Hints & Tips / Re:Nick it & Run!

If you don't want to make a walk through you could utilise a program a fellow agser AJA has made

AHS, which stands for AGS Hint System which is kind of like the UHS (universal hint system) if you know that.

The idea is you can get small hints that don't give the entire solution away so people can get a small hint that might get them past a certain point, but if they are still stuck they can get a larger hint.

There is a thread somewhere about it but I can't remember which forum, and couldn't find it but the site is here

I downloaded this game as soon as I saw it, I haven't played it yet as I have been busy working, socialising and working on my game (in that order) playing games comes next and I will comment in due time, just letting you know that I have interest in the Squinky projects and to keep you interseted in Fry 2 as I am muchly looking forward to that
#1309
looks like you've combined my code with scorpiorus's

in that particular code

"Gook_dialog_state++; //increase varible when dialog is finished"

will do nothing and the int counter will stay at zero cause it is not being incremented.

if you copy some code make sure you check to see whether you have copied it right.

I still don't know why you get the error, I guess you have the characters EGO and Gook (I hope it's not a racist slur) in the game. also the characters names are case sensitive ie, Gook or GOOK, depends how you defined it. and if the speech line isn't over 300 characters I don't know sorry

General Discussion / Re:editing a midi
Tue 03/06/2003 04:25:07
This is a cool free program that you can do exactly that

http://www.anvilstudio.com/

Anvil studio

to cut up a midi using it, you choose a point in the midi and can truncate from that point to the end, or that point to the beginning.

That's the only way I could figure out how to use the program for that
#1311
you can use something like this.

first put this up the top of the global script

int counter;

then choose the charcter you want to talk to, click interaction, talk to character, then choose run script and use something like this:

if (counter==0) {
DisplaySpeech(EGO,"blah blah blah'");
Display("There is no reply.");
}
if (counter==1) {
DisplaySpeech(EGO,"c'mon answer me'");
Display("There is no reply.");
}
if (counter==2) {
DisplaySpeech(EGO,"All right, that's it!'");
Display("At Last there is a response...");
DisplaySpeech(KAL,"Get lost'");
}
if (counter==3) {
DisplaySpeech(EGO,"Knock, knock,");
DisplaySpeech(KAL,"Who's there?");
DisplaySpeech(EGO,"Not me, baby! I'm outta here!!'");
}

if (counter < 3) {counter += 1;}

I think that might be what you are looking for

Edit: you just beat me to it

But, hey. We can just let AGS fall into the ruthless hands of the Microsoft Monopolism of Windows. I support DOS to the end! And you can never stop me!

MS-DOS stands for Microsoft Disc Operating System.

So just out of interest supporting DOS is still supporting Microsoft.

personally I never compile my games for dos, and I usually run the dos games in windows anyway, but I guess the newer operating systems don't support dos.

I don't have a problem with keeping the dos option, but I don't really see the point.

For die hard fans of dos, they could just use an older version of ags

You could use a gui with just the background image being the inventory item and use

DisplaySpeechAt (int x, int y, int width, CHARID, string message)

or

I just tested this way, have a GUI with a button at the top, which you change the image to the inventory item, add a gui label below the image in the alignment that you want and put the description there.

don't click the "text window" option box, set it to script only, set the foreground and background to 0 and it works as far as I can see.

I'd probably do more exercise, watch more tv, have a nice warm spa (hot tub), all the things mentioned at the end of MI2, then I'd invent a computer and become really rich, start a company called Macrohard.

I think I could live more healthily without a computer, there's always telephone to keep intouch with family, eventhough it's more expensive, there wouldn't be that much of an easier way to keep intouch, appart from letters.

I like junc's idea, just head out into the bush and set up your own life in the wilderness, although it would be good if the setting was like the one in the movie "the beach", I could live somewhere like that, and not care about computers, well, maybe just a laptop, a copy of AGS, the manual, a paint program, a music program (if not a steel drum will do) sit on the beach and make games, swim, fish, drink, fcuk, and wish to heck that the bottle I sent out to sea with all my technical questions will get answered before herman gives me back my banana picker.

how does the label decide if the artist is worth keeping around? popularity through socially conscious P2P users or album sales?

I think you missed the point of my post, yes album sales help the labels choose who to keep and who not to, but having them advertised using p2p gets it out to more people faster therefore boosting album sales for the more popular downloads.

It might not work so well for the smaller bands out there, but on the flipside people might hear them just cause they can get it for free, so a smaller band can become more popular without even realising.

Of cosrse people abuse it as with every aspect of life, but it is no different to the old days where instead you copied a tape off a mate from school, and so did everyone else, same with computer games. the classroom has just been replaced by the internet.

I just think the rich trying to get richer is not necessary in our society seeing is there is still a large third world within the western world, that is just ignored and used to profit by.

I think what CJ said would help to, if they reduced the prices, they would make a lot more money from more sales and people would be more inclined to buy rather than just download.

There is too much collusion in business, which is illegal, but how do you police it, otherwise everything would be cheap just to get ahead in the market. Also the major companies wouldn't be so major.

cut out collusion, we'd all live in a cheaper world, and have more money for food, which we don't all need but should share with the lesser fortunate.

I'm not a communist but definately not a capitalist, I'm just an optimist.

Yeah that last point is a good one. I guess the Leave room feature works for that.

I've got it all working now but yeah, the repeatedly execute for the room goes up to line 425.

but It doesn't effect any other rooms in the game so I don't know if I'll need the plugin but I'll still check it out sometime.

Thanks for all the help

Here's the script that works but I haven't added in any speech yet, that's the next step.
EDIT: I added some speech

   // script for room: Repeatedly execute
if (IsTimerExpired(1)==1){
character[PIN].room = 17;
character[PIN].x = 340;
character[PIN].y = 133;
SetGlobalInt(21,1);
MoveCharacterDirect(PIN,277, 139);
SetGlobalInt(33,1); //for next stage speech
}

if (GetGlobalInt(33)==1){
if (character[PIN].walking == 0) {
game.speech_text_gui=4;
DisplaySpeech(PIN,"Text goes here character is talking!");
Wait(1);
MoveCharacterDirect(PIN,248, 147);
SetGlobalInt(33,2); //for next stage speech
}
}

if (GetGlobalInt(33)==2){
if (character[PIN].walking == 0) {
DisplaySpeech(PIN,"Text goes here character is talking!");
Wait(1);
MoveCharacterDirect(PIN,222, 157);
SetGlobalInt(33,3); //for next stage speech
}
}

if (GetGlobalInt(33)==3){
if (character[PIN].walking == 0) {
DisplaySpeech(PIN,"Text goes here character is talking!");
Wait(1);
MoveCharacterDirect(PIN,185, 165);
SetGlobalInt(33,4); //for next stage
}
}

if (GetGlobalInt(33)==4){
if (character[PIN].walking == 0) {
SetCharacterView(TAW,75);
AnimateCharacter(TAW,0,5,0);

SetCharacterView(PIN,71);
AnimateCharacter(PIN,0,5,0);
SetGlobalInt(33,5); // for next stage

}

}

if (GetGlobalInt(33)==5) {

if (character[PIN].animating == 0) {
ReleaseCharacterView(PIN);

AnimateCharacterEx(TAW,0,5,0,1,0);

MoveCharacterDirect(PIN,340, 133);
SetTimer(2,800);
SetGlobalInt(33,0); //so it doesn't repeat
SetGlobalInt(26,1); // action complete so doesn't start over on re entry

}

}

And I figured out how to make it work if I leave the screen with this.

 // script for room: Player leaves screen
if (GetGlobalInt(26)==0) {
 SetGlobalInt(21,0);
 SetGlobalInt(33,0);

 character[PIN].x = 340;
 character[PIN].y = 133;
 ReleaseCharacterView(PIN);
 ReleaseCharacterView(TAW);

}

if (GetGlobalInt(26)==1) {
 ReleaseCharacterView(TAW);
 character[PIN].x = 340;
 character[PIN].y = 133;
}

There's also script for when I enter the screen but that's for setting the  1st timer and to know which stage I'm up to cause this script has 2 more parts for 2 more characters entering the screen.

I have it set up so if the npc has not finished what he does and you leave, it starts from scratch, but if he is walking off the screen when you leave, that section is over.

there are two more characters that  do the same thing and the same thing happens to each, if you leave the screen, they will start again too.

I posted it just incase anyone is interested or can think of something else.
