Sorry Joey, I didn't mean to seem rude, I just wanted to know if there were any puzzles in the demo.

This looks like a great game to work on, everyone loves the simpsons, and the brief story discription sounds original, which is hard to do with the simpsons, they've done eveything.
Reminds me of a South Park episode I saw the other day, Everything on the show was based on something the Simpsons did and they even converted the Southpark Characters into Simpsons style, it was a great tribute to them.

I'm sure it will be a great game, keep up the good work

Merry Xmas

Is there anything to do in the demo, how do you get to the kwikemart.
there is no gui, there is nothing much to interact with, if you talk to marge you get the same message as when you touch the fridge.

I know it's just a demo, but it really seems just like screen shots to me.

I can only get to lounge room, kitchen and the other lounge room, hey there's two lounge rooms, one with the tv one with a piano and fire place. and the same lounge is in both rooms, I don't remember that in their house.

I just had a quick play, and walked around all the seens I could and had a chat with a few characters, The game looks really promising. I know it's in a beta phase, just a suggestion, which I'm sure you're probably aware of anyway and will fix, but there isn't much info when you look around the screens and the charater scaling doesn't change yet.

The backgrounds look great, some are better than others but i'm sure you are going to touch up everything.

I'll tell you more when I've played some more,

quite impressive hippie,

are you new to these forums? obviously not new to AGS but I don't think I've seen you post before, Welcome anyway, I'm reasonably new to these forums myself, probably a couple of months but I've known about AGS for over a year.
#1544
Sorry to keep this crap going but if RPG person is making this particular game in AGS I can't see how it is possible, with the latest version only capable of having 6000 sprites, I can't see how it is possible to have over 11,000 animated monsters, with only  300 views available.

That's just one issue that makes it impossible, and if it is not being made in AGS what is the point of posting it in the AGS forum.

I just watched all 13 episodes in a row, It's definately watchable, I liked how Jimmy just kicks the crap out of everyone. The animations are pretty cool, did you rip them from the games somehow? and the start, did you rip the backgrounds straight from double dragon?
All the different characters styles are pretty acurate.
I was never a big fan of mario and double dragon, but there wasn't much choice of games in those days and you definately couldn't play them on a home computer, well the nintendo with mario started the arcade games at home, well maybe the atari with pong or whatever it was called.

It was quite impressive.

One of my friends just bought the original Double Dragon Arcade machine dirt cheap, you even have to open it up and press a button to get credits.

Anyways deltree, It brought back some childhood memories

BTW: in the English version, part 9 (i think 9) still has the GUI active

Quote from: LGM on Mon 09/12/2002 00:07:51Great game!  (Another gripe... The castle path was REALLY annoying.. It was almost impossible at one point..

There is a way around this problem, one of the only things in the game that is identical to the original.

eat the sugar cube, You don't lose the item either so you can use it numerous times

The RPG Creator, anyone can make a game that is 250 megs, but people won't download it cause the size is too big, even if they have a fast connection. You need it to be high quality and have some sort of following before you release something like that. Have you got a website? you'll need one to promote a game like that, and a host that will let you have large files to download, and a fair bit of space. Then you can show people what you've done so far, with some screenshots, text about the game, downloads for small demos you may release along the way. Otherwise no one will take you seriously. You can't Just release something and hope people will like it. You need to build their suspence for something like that.

Are you going to have a 240mb movie intro or something.

I wouldn't go around bragging about how big the file size of your game is, I'm sure if most people made a remake of the remake of KQ2vga, they would have a bigger file size than the Tierra team. Keeping a game to the smallest file size possible is a skill.

I also notice you haven't replied to anyones post, why not give us something to look at, maybe some screen shots or something, just to get us interested, who knows maybe you're telling the truth???

I played The original KQ2 today, it was short and easy compared to the new version, but i had to do it just to remember the game.

Quote from: Sluggo on Sat 07/12/2002 03:27:57Timosity: KQ IX isn't being made with the AGHAST engine. They're programming it all themselves.

Yeah, I wasn't sure I must have got confused with SQ7, that's why I said I THINK it is made with it.

but thanks for the info Sluggo

Quote from: Raggit on Fri 06/12/2002 15:23:10Timosty, what do you mean your a developer yourself?

All I mean by that is that I'm an amature developer, I create my own games with AGS, click the link in my signature, isn't that what most people who browse these forums are?

Quote from: Erpy on Fri 06/12/2002 12:16:53But you're wrong about the AGD's being retired ex-Sierra workers. They are most certainly not. Just adventure fans (in pretty much the same age group as most adventure fanatics) who spend a lot of time keeping the classics alive.

Wow, That makes it all the more impressive to me, I was just throwing some contoversy in the air to get a responce, I'm a Developer myself, I just wanted to know a bit of background on the deveolpers Tierra used.
I have got the responces I was looking for so thanks Erpy

Edit: I agree that the Q4G4.5 was not something sierra would have liked, but personally it was one of the games that lead me to AGS, I'm not easily offended by much and the shock value of the game was great.
I can see why people would be offended though. Maybe they should have called the game something else.

But all I can say if you don't like it, don't play it, then it won't effect you in the slightest.

I tried to ask in the Tierra forum, who the anonymous developers were, I was more looking for general info ie did they formerly work for Sierra, I got this response from Tom Lewandowski

QuoteLet's just say, the KGB and CIA top brass are watching...and leave it at that.

I don't think remaining anonymous will stop anyone from being able to sue them. There are some smart organisations out there and if they really want to track someone down they will.

Whoever they are anyway, they must have already made their money, if they can spend over a year creating a quality game, for no money, They obviously love what they do. Therefore are probably people who have worked on other sierra games, and money isn't an object to them anymore (bastards)

I bet most of us wish we could just sit back and make AGS games without having to work, Imagine the Quality of Our games then.

There's a group of People making Space Quest 7 using the AGAST Engine, and I think some of those people have worked on former Space Quest games, This game has been in production for longer than KQ2VGA and still has a long way to go I think, But they have to make up a whole new story, much harder obviously than rewriting an old one.
the site is here: http://www.sq7.org/

There is Also a team making Kings Quest IX, the production for this looks pretty good too, I think this one uses the AGAST Engine aswell. the site is here: http://www.kq9.org

So if anyone hasn't heard about these games, there are the links, Also If anyone knows any other cool projects that are going on please inform me.

I finally finished the game, it was much better than I expected, not being a Kings Quest Fan, I only needed 1 hint to finish the game and i'm disappointed I needed it, cause I probably would have figured it out, It wasn't one of the harder puzzles, well it wasn't even really a puzzle, but I won't spoil it for anyone else. If I'd played the original in the last while it would have been an easier task.

Is Tierra's version of Kings Quest 1 an exact replica or has the story been changed like no.2, if it has I might consider playing it, cause if I'm not mistaken, didn't Sierra make a remake of the game too, before VGA.

This has made me think differently about the Kings Quest series but I feel Tierra have made a better production than Sierra, in Kings Quest 2 anyway.

All I can say is, I can't wait for Quest for Glory 2 remake.
End of 2003, Geez, Haven't you started it yet?
Just kidding, take as long as you like, the longer it takes, the better the quality, Well I hope.

I Just hope Q4G2 takes more than 2 days to finish, with more puzzles.

Keep up the good work Tierra, And do something about that Anonymous Developer stuff, The only unprofessional part of the whole production.

The game looks great, It took about 20 mins to download(game + music), I felt like i was back using a dialup, but it made me think this must mean quality, I've been waiting for this for over a year, but not as Much as QFG2 remake, this game will hopefully just tide me over till then.
I'm not much of a kings quest fan but I have played all up to 6,
I had a go of Tierra's new version and it took me a while to figure out which KQ it was. Kings quest gets me all confused I can never remember what things happen in different ones, so It should be a challenge, especially if it is a different story to the original.

btw I think it's great making a remake that is different in some ways to the original, it makes it worth playing, otherwise people will say "ah, I've already played that game," and not bother downloading it.

You Should make a remake of Leisure suit Larry 2 or 3, or even Space Quest 2 or 3, or if any other people who want to make a remake of any of these games go for it, I just think the kings quest games are a bit lame, but still definately playable, that's just my taste. Personally the Quest for Glory series took over where the  Kings Quest series went shit, why didn't I think of that. Well Sierra still made money from both.

Great work Tierra, are any of you ex sierra workers or something, Why be anonymous, If you are worried about being sued, I hate to tell you but they could track you down if they really wanted to sue you, Just come out of the closet and be proud to have released a great game.

Hurry up Q4G2, I'm sure it will be worth the wait, but not another year, not next christmas, that's too far away, like waiting for the next Lord of the rings movie to come out, There is still over a year until The Return of the king.

Now there's an Idea for a very large 3 part adventure game, I know there are various LOTR games out there even really old ones but If someone started this project on AGS it would be awsome. It would have to be done well though, ANY TAKERS

Quote from: Trapezoid on Sun 01/12/2002 17:25:27Believe it or not, Michael Jackson used to look like a normal black kid (yes, black!) There was some horrible accident where he got covered in acid or something and now Batman's got his eye on him.

Yeah, maybe Dorcan can make yet another remake of the game, with the main character being what Michael Jackson would look like today without surgery, Then cat women might have her eye on him.

Dorcan, I finished the game, It's a great game, I look forward to seeing more from you in the future

DORCAN: Important, I noticed rookworm3 found the bug with the phone and you fixed the bug So I downloaded the new version and the game starts in the fast food place. You've obviously uploaded the version you were testing without resetting the start room and starting inventory
#1554
I've been waiting for the English release, the game looks good and the puzzles seem challenging, I've only had a short go, and I haven't escaped the room yet so I guess I haven't even solved the first puzzle yet.

The main character looks almost identical to Michael Jackson, this might have been what he was treated like as a kid???
Spoiler
I have used the hacksaw on the bars, and pushed the bar but cant open the window, it's sealed.
btw when you've used the hacksaw, and put the tools back, get the tools again you have 2 hacksaws, well one is broken,
I've also used the dummy under the sheets so dad thinks i'm there, I just can't get out of the room, I must have missed something

AGS Games in Production / Re:Search for Sanity
Sun 01/12/2002 09:01:16
Very nice looking game, are there puzzles in the demo, I just had a quick look and talked to everyone looked everywhere, I think, and only found a coin.
Just wondering if it's just a preview or an actual demo that you can finish before i decide i'm stuck or have done everything

Quote from: 2ma2 - blargh on Fri 15/11/2002 13:07:51I downloaded the hint file and found out how to get the idcard. That was a mean pixelhunting puzzle

Spoiler
It was designed not to be too much of a pixel hunt,
The game was designed to use the Look cursor, if you look at the canon it tells you it's a canon but if you look at the whole shaft you get a message saying it's the nozzle of the canon

The hotspot is actually the main shaft of the canon so it's not just a couple of pixels it's quite a large area.

It's the same with the painting on the lower deck, the corner of the painting looks a bit different and you get a different message if you look in different places.

It is pixel hunting in a way but it allows you have to use the look cursor not just use the hand everywhere and hope you find something.

Thanks 2ma2, good to get some more feedback, by the way I loved who killed Kenny Rogers and Permanent Daylight,
Who killed kenny rogers is one of my favourites, it took me ages to figure out a few puzzles and a fair bit of pixel hunting but great for a mags game.

Yeah my backgrounds are pretty much remade screens based on the old ones. The animations were just lazy but I thought they would be more humerous like that, The puzzles were far from original, I didn't make the puzzles too hard just so people wouldn't give up straight away and not give the game a go,

I didn't put much music in cause it wasn't original music anyway and i'm not a musician. but are there any programs to create midi music easily, i did play the piano when i was a kid and i've got a good ear, so i reckon i could put some tunes together if I new a good program.

I could have made the intro longer, it does say why he was on the plane by the way, He was travelling home from a skiing holiday. but I got sick of working on it and just wanted to release it.

The game was really done just to get a grasp on the programming and integration of the program, I'd been meaning to use it for about a year and then i finally found some spare (time a couple of months) to put it all together.

Spoiler
have a closer look at the painting on the lower deck, and you can on a canon

Completed Game Announcements / Re:Escape
Tue 12/11/2002 13:51:25
Its a different game, with no character on the screen, I was also a bit confused with the game play at first but I figured it out, left click is look and right click is action, but in all it's quite a good little game although I haven't found the good ending yet, so i'll tell you when I do.

Spoiler
I finished it 2 ways, by kicking the panel, and pressing the button and then kicking the panel. Is that 2 ways or just a different way of getting one of the endings??

das TOBI - AS

I tried downloading the music file and it wasn't a broken zip file
so it must have timed out or something, check the file size, if you right click on the zip file and look at properties it should be 2.74MB (2,875,589 bytes)

danny

I'll get back to you about 3ds max, I haven't got time at the moment to play around with it. And it's coming into summer in this part of the world (Sydney Australia) and it's been very hot lately. I play cricket and enjoy outdoor stuff as well as computer stuff and I use computers at work, I can get sick of staring at a screen.
Maybe have some spare time over Christmas, I'm trying to come up with an idea for a Game, Maybe play a character that is an evil secret agent, like the life of one of james bonds enemies.
