Quote from: Privateer Puddin' on Sun 25/12/2005 10:19:51No no no. Christmas should be snow :(

snow at christmas? what kind of crazy world would that be, I don't know how santa copes in the southern hemisphere, I've never seen him in a picture wearing his budgie smugglers (speedo's). he'd get pretty hot riding round down here. A lot of propaganda and christmas carols make no sense down here, it's a wonder kids don't cotton on earlier

Merry Christmas Everyone,

it's almost over right now here, already home from the relo bash, good food, beer, wine etc.

Nice hot day, over 30 degrees C, not a cloud in the sky, just the way christmas should be.

hope everyone enjoys it

Speaking of Kookaburra's, they have a pretty famous sound, and I've noticed them in a few movies before, and the strangest one is at the Start of "Raiders of the Lost Ark"

When they're in the jungle in South America in the intro, It's a bird sound that is meant to be really creepy, the funny thing is, if you knew Kookaburra's you wouldn't be too freaked out (unless you were a Worm, Lizard or Fish)

They're also used for the same effect in "The Wizard of Oz"

They're a pretty common bird, I hear them every day

I played Hockey as a kid, played representitive, got close to making NSW, probably would have if I kept playing, but gave it away towards the end of school, to be honest I don't really care too much about it anymore.

The womens team just lost in a penalty shoot out at the recent world championships final against the Netherlands, I watched the game, I can say that there were quite a few attractive women in both sides, and those short skirts, well it was good to watch.

This forum is international, so not many people will really know much about this topic, or care

I play cricket these days, and yes, Kookaburra bats are great

Australia's greatest sporting moment, well, that's pretty tough, cause there have been so many, we did hold the Cricket & Rugby World Cups at the same time, the women's hockey team were world champs for many years.

I agree, making the world cup is no where near any highlight, a good achievement, but only winning the World Cup could come close, and that wont be for quite a few years.

My favourite sporting moment was when Steve Waugh took a catch running backwards behind the side screen on the boundary almost colliding with Merv Hughes

I still enjoy new Simpsons episodes (or just get excited at the fact its not a rerun), they may not be as good, but it sure beats watching the 6996th replay of an old one (only a few exceptions).

[on a funny note, ever notice characters like Smithers and Marvin Monroe turn from black to yellow, and Wiggam's hair turn from black to blue, I think it just must be changes from the first season]

Looking at some of the early seasons, its hard to see how it was enjoyed back then, there was a gold patch somewhere (when the opening credits were cut short) and the treehouse of horrors were always good.

but if Futurama had more seasons it would just end up the same, no one can be happy, it either goes on too long or cut short.

Only time can tell, I'm not a big fan of Futurama and I can't see how it could have gone much further.

Look at shows like Fawlty Towers, there were only 13 episodes (i think) and it was all pure gold, obviously more in the era of entertainment than money.

Seinfeld had I think 9 seasons and stopped before it went too far, it also took longer to get a following. But went out at a good time.

Except for the fact it made that Raymond show popular, I can't believe that show was popular, the guy was not funny at all, and no one loved him. (why the fuck didn't he just move away from his parents, simple as that and the show fucks off) it was just the last show in a dying breed of US sitcoms

Haven't seen anything (well not much) on TV that I've enjoyed since 199*

I moved into my own apartment (one that I now own [well the bank does]) so the debt begins.

I've been here a month but I finally got the internet, can only get ADSL as opposed to Cable that I've had for 6 years, it's not too bad but just not quite as good when doing multiple downloads and trying to surf at the same time.

Here's the view out my window

I'm on the 3rd level and it's quite a high area of Sydney, you can see the Harbour Bridge & Opera House, and a few buildings through the trees, the photo is at 3x zoom and cropped, It's a great view at night, I get a huge panorama of lights. It's about 25km out of the city.

Sorry to double post (I did wait over a year)

I heard an interesting story today about a Witch Doctor that put a curse on the Australian Soccer team, I think it was in 1970.

Apparently the Australian team got a witch doctor in Mozambique to put a curse on Rhodesia (the team we had to beat to make the 1974 world cup)
The Australians won the game, and didn't or couldn't pay the witch doctor, so he put a curse on the Austrain Team.

Ever since then the team hasn't made the World Cup, even not losing a single match in Qualifying and not making it. They've had some very strange results and bad luck which almost seems like they were cursed.

This is where it gets interesting, A semi underground famous guy in Australia John Safran, went to Mozambique during a tv series he made for SBS ' John Safran vs God' (very interesting series) and got the curse reversed during some ritual thing with a witch doctor, So the team is no longer cursed.

Anyway, it's an interesting story, I don't believe in curses (except fictional ones in adventure games)

I still think Australia will only be making up the numbers, but it'll be interesting to see if they take any scalps with them (maybe to create a new curse)

I'm not a big Soccer fan, but Australia has finally made it into the world cup. They lost the first game 1-0 to Uruguay in Uruguay and won the home game 1-0. So it went to 30 mins extra time. Australia dominated the game almost completely but couldn't finish it off.

Pity it came down to a penalty shoot out, but who cares, Australia is in.

I haven't played in about 15 years or so, it's a fun game but I prefer Tennis.

Do they play Squash in the USA, I've seen movies where thay play Racquetball which is basically Squash using paddles, in squash they actually use a racquet

I don't remember the mid 70's, only the late 70's and that's all a bit of a blur, and not due to the drugs or anything (that's called the 90's)

happy 30th, I'm 3 months behind, '76 was the best year of the 70's

In that case, what about the Fountain of Youth team? Eeek!

I'd say they've been studying the forums intensely and realise that by the time it's released, the copyrights and trade marks will all be expired

Yeah, it's terrible, natural disasters kill more people usually than anything else, other than probably raod accidents.

on another topic I'm suprised there wasn't a thread on the Bali suicide bombings a week ago which occurred almost exactly 3 years after the previous attacks just as the tourist trade was picking up again.

I'm also suprised that there wasn't a thread about the death of Ronnie Barker, what's happening to you people?

That's great Scummy, I've been downloading them all and Finally when I felt like watcing it, all the parts were ready, and I watched it all in one sitting.

It's entertaining, and follows the story well, some quite funny parts too.

Well worth your efforts, thanks alot

The only thing I remember from ezboards was Spyros, I never posted there but I found a buch of games to play, and got any info I needed from just reading (I thought it was too geeky to actually post) and thought people who posted on forums were a bunch of geeks with no life outside of a computer.

I gave into that when I released my first game about 3 years ago.

Standout things I remember in my time

*every few months people complaining about how good it was in the old days, and how it's gone down hill

*kickme - I think there's been worse people since, and he was driven by a few members here, entertaining though

*RPGcreator - there's an eg. link in my sig, I often wonder if it was someone's alter ego, it will always be a mystery

not a lot really, you boring bunch

Never heard of this as I never really pay much attention to modern games, but I just played the demo, and looks to be a game I'd like.

I've only bought 2 modern games, Broken Sword 3 (awesome) and Larry: Magna Cum Laude (only for the sake of it and to see if I could get a copy in Aus since it was banned here)

actually I also bought the 2 CSI games a couple of years ago and still haven't got around to playing either

I'll probably buy it at some stage

Thanks for the replies guys,

Yeah the train was diesel, although it was steam in the old days.

I missed Elaine in that pic, but I can't post the others cause it would be against the rules of the forum.

It is a great place to visit, and I can budget it well cause my sister lives up there.

It's well worth a visit if you have the cash, or are backpacking around, there are heaps of British, German, American, Canadian, Japanese and Chinese tourists everywhere you go, I felt strange being Australian.

It's a long way from any major cities in Aus, even Brisbane, which is in the Same state as Cairns (Queensland), is much closer to Sydney. I think even Melbourne is Closer to Brisbane and that's right down the bottom of Aus.

It's easily accessible though, as it has an international airport (although you'd still probably have to get a plane from another major city as I'm not sure what international destinations get direct flights)

If anyone is interested seeing where it is and to get some perspective, open Google Earth and find the co-ordinates:
16 degrees 55' 12'' South
145 degrees 44' 60'' East
