General Discussion / Re: This damned thunder
Sun 03/07/2005 09:45:53
A couple of years ago I turned off & unplugged everything from the mains during a close thunder storm but forgot the cable modem cable was still connected.

[an important note: don't just switch off the switch at the wall, pull out all the plugs to the computer (electrical appliance) because a surge can still easily go through a switch that is turned off]

as a result, it fried my network card, I had a spare but it made me think.

I used to have a UPS but it died.

Just as what you should do with all your AGS games in production, make sure you back up everything (not just another copy on another connected HD) keep it/them in different locations to rule out different methods of random destruction.

eg. your house burns down with your computer, and 5 backups (one in each room)

you can always get a new computer, but losing important data can be a C#%t. not that I have cause I always backup (so far)

My place has been photographed although my current house is under trees (which I hope don't fall on me) and I can even pick exactly where my new appartment is which I'll be moving into around November when the place opens. I live next to one of the bussiest roads in the country (constant trucks 24/7)

I've posted this link before to the program World Wind, which does a similar thing except you have to download a rather large file. It also has a 3D engine

I had my doubts about the selection of Joey, but as the true champion he is, he goes beyond expectations. 9 games in the last 2 years through injury, 1 week back after a broken jaw, and back to his best, only he could pull that off, and get man of the match.

Great game.

before this game, after 73 games over 25 years, Qld were 1 point infront of NSW, something like 1121 to 1120, so now the Blues are ahead by 9 points. I doubt there'd be any competition over that period of time so even anywhere in the world, in any sport.

I have no idea of whether she is innocent or not, I wasn't there.

She was asked if the bodyboard case was hers, she said yes.

it contained marijuana.

she didn't have a lock on the bag, so it could have been planted.

If she is innocent, it's scary that the difference between being a prisoner in a foriegn country for 20 years is a couple of bucks for a lock.

but I can't really comment on the case as I've only heard what the Australian media have told us, and I'm sure it's biased.

I wonder when they are going to replay the mini series "Bangkok Hilton" with Nicole Kidman http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096540/

The solution will be solved by an Indian porno I saw when I was a kid, well the chick was Indian anyway, and here's the line. (imagine an Indian English accent [from India, not an American Indian])

"Because of my religion I must remain a virgin until I'm married, until then you can penetrate me here...."

well it's not really the best solution depending on your personal preferences, I just thought it was funny.

I'm not an expert on this topic but Isn't there a newer contraception that goes under your skin on your arm or somthing that slowly releases hormones and lasts for quite a few months. maybe thats what you're using now but I'm not sure, maybe it's illegal over there too or maybe it's just on trial here, sorry I can't be of much help.

Edit: Yeah I just noticed Squinky's post about the Norplant thingy, that's probably what I was thinking of, and I never noticed a reply regarding it, but I guess you don't want the hormones

Do what I did: get made redundant, getting a £20k tax free payoff in the process, and then start a new job on the same salary at a different company the week after you leave.

That worked out pretty well, that's almost $48k AUS, you could do a lot with that, put it towards mortgage, new family car, etc but you'll have to use some of it on a holiday of somekind.

That's great luck (and probably a good resume), at least it would have kept you going for a while if you couldn't find a job straight away. I guess it was a scary little period with a happy outcome. Well done

On another note, to only objection I had to the NSW team that was chosen was Kimmorley.

True, I have no idea why Kimmorley is always picked, I guess with no Johns, he is their next favourite. But I have no idea Why Matt Orford isn't the next pick or even in the squad ???

now it's Rugby League, not Rugby, there is a difference there too. (and Aussie Rules is the Biggest code of football in the country, it's also known as Football)

It was a great game but it was almost like rugby in the fact that it was 4 tries to 2 (in NSW favour) at full time and the scores were level.

QLD did deserve to win, it sets it up nicely for the next one in Sydney, and if all goes well it will be a great 3rd decider.

GO THE BLUES!!!

You may remember Ultimo's post from last year with these pics

from this post http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=16004.msg173555#msg173555

and in Rugby, The Waratahs are going to get smashed by those kiwi Crusaders this weekend in the Super 12 final, well I hope not but that's just the general feeling I get.

What's wrong with this pic?

The game and game play seem a bit ordinary, but that's about what I expected, but why is there something odd about the whole situation?

Edit: The thing wrong with this pic is that the game was banned in this country, one of the reasons i got it was to see if it was possible to aquire here.

You can find and download Gabriel Knight 2 at

http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?gameid=2349

You can't get it from there, it links to somewhere to buy it and I think and that link is broken.

I bought it about a year ago off ebay for a decent price but I got all the way to disc 6 and then a fair way through that disc before I found out there was a corrupt section on the disc.

So I'm still yet to finnish it. I emailed the guy I bought it from and never got a reply.

I'm watching a couple on ebay at the moment and with postage they're up to about $30 AUS.

just off topic: I don't understand why people bid early on ebay, do they just want to pay top dollar? idiots.

I can't remember exactly what I paid originally but it was probably around $30 total

anyone want to send me a copy of disc 6, I guess it would have to be the same version too.

The game was just getting good and near the end, damn dodgey ebay sellers.

Some movies are released at the same time but for big ones like Star Wars and LOTR, they are restricted purely on the fact that only so many copies are actually made, so after the first few days or weeks in the US, after the main fuss is over, the extra copies that aren't needed are sent further around the globe. and Australia doesn't have a big enough population to demand an early release as it comes down to bums on seats, it was also filmed here to save money on production.

It seems a shame seeing as the last 3 SW movies (or 1st 3 episodes) were filmed in Australia but don't get seen here first.

It doesn't really bother me as I'm not a big fan but I'll probably see it at some stage soon.

I really enjoy listening to SOAD, and cant wait for Mezmerize, they're releasing 2 Albums but Hypnotize (I think that's the name?) wont be released till the end of the year or something.

They are quite musically talented, it may not seem like it, but if you actually get past the heavy stuff (if that's what you don't like) and listen, you'd be quite surprised.

It took me a while to get into them but I just love their changes. Their first self titled album is my favourite, but Ego Brain is my favourite song (occasionally).

When I first heard BYOB I didn't know what to make of it, but it is such a well structured song, even though originally I thought it was just all over the place.

I'm not sure when the album comes out in AUS, I think it may be the 23rd May, I'm definately looking forward to it.

I always listen to lyrics last as far as music goes, it's the least important part for me, I still don't even know the real words to most albums I've been listening to for decades.

As for this thread being locked, maybe Terran (and anyone else) should just ignore it if they're not into the music.

I only just noticed this thread and thought "sounds good, might see what these games are like."

I went through the whole thread a few times trying to find where to download them

eventually I found it.

but until then get the games here.

but I actually found it by editting the voting url before I found it in the thread

I also tried the search function using the games names but it just lead me back to this thread

maybe making it bold or adding it to the first post would make it easier to find, just a bit of friendly advise to help people who missed it enjoy the games.

Sorry I missed it and am too late to vote, and cause i had to read the whole thread now I know who made what, but oh well, my own fault for not being very active around here these days

please update caugnat ;)

I can't be much help as I've been smoking since I was 15 and now 14 years later I'm still smoking.

I'm actually fitter now than I have been for years, but I'd probably be fitter if I didn't smoke.

When I started smoking it cost less than $3 AUS for a pack and now it costs anywhere from $10-$12. The last day I went without a ciggy was in 1995, I lasted 24 hours and 10 mins (after the 24 hours was up I went straight to buy a pack)

I probably smoke about half a pack a day, but when drinking I may smoke a pack in a night.

I know it's all about associations.

Eg. get out of bed in morning (have a smoke)
Eat a meal (have a smoke)
go for a drive (have a smoke)
have a break (have a smoke)
just before bed (have a smoke)

so the easy solution is don't get out of bed, don't eat, don't go to work

and seeing as that's not practical, I have no idea.

I want to quit before I'm 30 so I have less than a year (I also said that before I was 20) so damn it, If I did that then I wouldn't be in this mess now.

and yeah, I probably could have a nice sports car by now if I'd saved all that money, or a good deposit for a house.

Good luck
